My grandparents got married in 1925. My grandma’s dress was white satin short sleeve with about 6” of lace below. It was about tea length. Wasn’t real elaborate. She had a cap style headpiece with a long veil. Huge bouquet. My grandma’s sisters were the same. It seemed like the theme were dresses that were shorter, long veils and huge bouquets. Not sure why the bouquets were so big. My bouquet was a quarter of that and heavy after awhile.
Whenever I go back to my hometown I see almost all of this but with different architecture, of course. My place was a small city in Illinois. The bleakness, the grittiness, the closed factories and businesses. Yet so many never got to leave. And others, had to go there because it's the only area where the rents are still cheap. But how very profound it was to drive back through it all. It was bittersweet, for sure. So seeing this video was not only interesting to me. It was also a familiar landscape but just thousands of miles away!
Im only 24 years old in 2 days but dam how i wish i could have been alive in the 50s only for the cars!!! My dream vehicle is a '55 or '57 Chevy Bel Air hard top 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
I was born in '49 and I remember these places. Toronto was so much easier to get around in, and parking was not near the issue that it is today. People were much more approachable and it was a happier city. However one thing that has improved over the years is the cuisine.
So many people without shoes. It makes me wonder if they ever got comfortable walking and didn't mind it or whether their feet caused them serious problems as time passed. I can't imagine not having shoes.
In some ways i would gladly take 1980 over 2024. Theres too much choice now, and it doesn’t necessarily make you any happier. People are also way more greedy and selfish now, but the selfish elite were already arounf in 1980.
I now have these songs learned by heart.. when watching a video, I know which track comes next, before it plays 😄 Watching the pictures of the past, whilst listening to these songs is very relaxing 👍🏼
born in 1951 the 6o,s were our growing teen years with great music, new technology and only one blip when kennedy was assassinated it is great to hear the old songs again and think of the good times and great cars.
I was born 1/1/1944 so I am split between generations with both 1950s and and 1960s having heavy influences if what I thought was learning about what the world was about. My family moved to a little agricultural town called Santa Clara in 1950 so I also experienced the revolution into silicone world. I loved both the 1950s and and 1960s but admit they had unresolved issues such as racism but the big change was the "pill" that was introduced around 1963. This resulted in the 1960s sexual revolution and by the 1970s SEX HAD WON. Nudie parties, married couples swinging, sex on first dates, homosexual bath houses, orgies, it was what ever floated your boat. One today can not imagine how casual sex became in the 1970's as a result of the 1960s sex revolution. Then AIDS struck the party and the sexual revolution was over.
