Hello from Ottawa! I wanted to let you know that I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos on Tuscany and Cinque Terre! Thank you so much for posting them. My husband and I are making our first trip to Italy this October and your videos are making me super excited to get there!I’m certain that I’ll come back to watch your videos again when we’re back home to relive the memories 😊 As I was watching, it did bring up some questions and I wanted to ask if you would you be willing to answer them? I won’t lie - I have about 12 questions 😜 I don’t want to fill up the comments in case you’d rather I didn’t. Let me know if here is good or if you’d rather I DM you in Instagram. Thank you so much!

@@theperriadventures Grazie mille! Here we go: *Did you stay in Cinque Terre? How long were you there for? If you stayed, which town and which hotel/apartment? *You mentioned that Manarola was your favourite - may I ask what made it your favourite? *Roughly how much time did you spend in each town? *Did you try any of the restaurants? Any you would recommend? *How did you decide where you were going to walk in each town? *Did you walk to any of the towns or did you take the train to each one? *If you were to go back, what/where would you do/go again? *What do you film with - camera or phone? And do you use a selfie stick? *Was it worth the climb at the Leaning Tower in Pisa? *How many nights did you spend in Siena? I was just going to stop for a couple hours on our way to Montalcino and wondered if that was enough time? Hope there weren't too many questions :) I'm a big planner (if it wasn't obvious) and I'm just trying to make sure that we take advantage of all the time we have. Thank you so much for your time!

@@samanthaguibord2798 Hello Samantha We arrived in Genoa after taking the ferry from Palermo Sicily. We decided to base our hotel in La Spezia which is just south of the Cinque Terre. We chose La Spezia mainly to save a bit on accommodation costs and because it seemed like a great base from my research. We spent 6 nights in La Spezia at a great spot near the restaurants and town centre. We stayed at Rooms La Spezia ( we found it on booking.com) it was great for what we needed. We trained to La Spezia from Genoa. From La Spezia we took the train each morning to a Cinque Terre town of our choice. We spent a day in each town. Trains are super busy but once you obtain your pass for multiple days you just hop on and go. (you can line up at train station to get it they have a line or can get online ahead of time but we opted to get it there). Trains are quick to get from town to town. They have ferries and boats to get from town to town as well. This view would be wonderful and I regret not doing it but I think we found the train worked great so we stuck with that. I gave us 5 days to visit the 5 towns so I wasn’t sure how long I would feel was enough time but I’d seen others do all 5 in 1 day so I figured we should see a good part if one day was dedicated to each place. It worked well. The only day I planned a certain town was for Montorosso al Mare because I wanted to pick the best weather day for our beach and swim in the sea day. All the others were picked the night before just randomly. I really had no idea of the town layout and what route to take once we got off the train. The online maps and such didn’t help. I just read about each town and noted the key things to see that we don’t want to miss but then just start walking. I did look at the google map to try to visualize the layout. We usually get off the train and go the farthest out first. We know we can then come back into the main area of town after. We take the street that climbs up away from where most tourists hang out and try to find some back way views or alleyways and stairwells. We often walk a lot and sometimes get a bit lost or off the track but this is how I find things I didn’t even know where there. Cinque Terre has so many trails between the towns but within the towns you can just go and explore as it’s not so big that you won’t find your way back easily. And spending time there in the evening would be amazing with more of the place to yourself. That’s the time to immerse yourself and have unique experiences. The hiking trails would be very nice to take but we just went up them a bit to some view points and didn’t continue on them from town to town. A couple trails were closed when we were there. We love food but skip restaurants in busy spots just because it takes up so much time away from our sight seeing. Other times we know that the restaurants and food experience in Italy are all part of your sightseeing and experience so we but here we opted to eat at the quicker places. They have yummy focaccia bread here with great toppings that we grabbed to take and eat out while sitting on the rocks or walls near the sea. Great views and saves us some money and time. We often grab a panino or aranchini or pizza and enjoy it near the sea. When we have more time there nothing better than a full evening meal at a restaurant. We also chose to day trip to Pisa from La Spezia on day 6 as I didn’t want to stop into Pisa on our way by to Florence as we would have our luggage then. It was a great base for the Pisa day trip. I loved Pisa and it was so special to walk into the piazza and see the leaning tower. After seeing so many amazing architectural beauty in Italy I didn’t expect to be in awe but I was. Climbing up the tower was a neat experience that I’d take as it will likely be closed again in the future to “adjust” the tilt and I think it’s definitely worth it. You feel the tilt as you walk up and I loved being able to experience being on top of such an iconic architectural structure. We almost skipped it wondering if it was enough to see it from below but I’m glad we climbed it. Pisa city streets are lovely and lively. There’s definitely more to Pisa than just the tower.

@@samanthaguibord2798 continuing my answer as I ran out of reply room…Cinque Terre is beautiful. The views and the setting and certainly special. It was still so warm in October and fewer crowds but it was still busy. I think the evenings are quieter as the tours and such clear out and that’s probably when you can really immerse in the towns best. Unfortunately I can’t recommend an accommodation right in the cinque Terre but I can say that there are many steps and levels in each of the 5 towns. If you have large luggage it’s tricky to reach some places. These accommodations are tricky to find in stairwells and alleys but request detailed directions from your host if possible and you should be okay. You may have a bit of stress at first arriving but you’ll find it. Finding accommodations are challenging all over Italy as there are rarely signs and so many different accommodations within one building sometimes. We’ve stayed in towns without addresses on the building so finding it involves asking around a bit and somebody always seems to know where we need to go. Corniglia would be my last choice to book my accommodation only because it’s way up from the train station and requires a shuttle or a big climb up to the town which would be a challenge with luggage and daily travels to other towns. The shuttle isn’t sufficient for the amount of tourists so your wait is longer. Doing that daily would be a pain. Monterosso al Mare would probably be the easiest town to find your accommodation out of the 5. It is spilt into 2 sides but it’s flat and spread out making it easier to locate your place. All were lovely but Manarola was my favourite. I loved the waterfront area and walking around the cliff to take in the view looking back at the town. It was so pretty and I felt the most Italian culture and charm here. It’s hard to explain but some times when a place is over taken by tourists the real Italy culture and local charm gets lost a bit. It’s there but you have to go a bit off the beaten path to experience it. Though so busy in manarola I felt that true Italy charm there the most out of the 5. All so beautiful though I’d go back to any. You just can’t go wrong in Italy. We have been so fortunate to spend months in Italy and find those experiences. We have been there in the off season and sat on beaches alone that at peak times have not had a spot to stand. These places are busy with tourists for a reason, they’re amazing and I never bash the hordes of people there because I too am a tourist there! But be aware it will be busy. You’ve chosen one of the best times to be there though. Great weather and a bit fewer people. I love tourist towns full of people enjoying the beauty and also love just the opposite, the small old town on a hilltop full of locals staring at a couple outsiders exploring the streets they grew up on. We just love it all. We have travelled extensively throughout Italy and even spent 9 months there in 2021-2022. I hope you’ll check out more of our old videos. We have explored so many amazing places and love to inspire others to visit all of Italy. Each region is so different and offers some fantastic experiences. I film mostly on our GoPro 9 and a bit on my iPhone. I love the GoPro for quality and it’s easy to use. I’ll use my iPhone if I run out of battery or need to zoom in to video as the GoPro doesn’t zoom in without adjusting the settings. I sometimes have an extended handle for the GoPro (makes it like a selfie stick to extend away from you while videoing. I also have and a waterproof case for under water videos so that’s handy. If I used my iPhone all the time I’d likely get a gimble to keep it steady. I would bring a selfie stick if you have it as they capture the full background best. I don’t see as many people using them there the last time but if you don’t mind carrying some extras it does capture the scenery well for selfies. When we left La Spezia we then spent some days in Florence and then made our way to Siena. We wanted to explore the Tuscan hillside and found Siena to be a great base. We travelled here by train and stayed in a wonderful apartment called Appartemento Mimosa. We stayed in Siena 4 days but could have stayed longer. There are so many towns to visit nearby and Siena itself is much bigger than I expected. We took the scooter ride and venture into San Gimignano from Siena. Only spent a couple hours in san gimignano which is enough to see it but always could stay longer. If you only have a couple hours in Siena it’s worth a visit as the medieval vibe here is really neat. The Piazza del Campo is incredible and the duomo was one of the most beautiful I’ve seen. Get a cab into the town from the train station if you have limited time as it’s a bit of an uphill walk and will take up precious time. If I were to do the trip again I would visit all these places again for sure. I’d probably sleep in Manarola for at least one of the nights to experience the town in the quieter evening. We talk about returning to Tuscany to spend more time in the countryside. We loved our scooter ride and doing some more scenic loops would be so fun. I couldn’t believe I was riding around Tuscany on a scooter, passing the vineyards. Planning can be stressful as we want to make sure we don’t miss anything and make the most of our time. I plan so much too but when it comes to Italy you just can’t go wrong with anything as you’ll always have amazing things to see and a great time. Even if you miss a few things, or you don’t have the time to see it all, what you do see will be wonderful and you’ll have the best time. When in busy areas (crowded trains are the worst) keep an eye on your belongings and a hand on your purse/wallet. Pick pockets are everywhere and can be the least likely person you expect. They usually work in teams.

It depends what you’re looking for as the Amalfi coast, Calabrian coast and Puglia all have great places to see. Tropea in Calabria has an amazing beach and many nearby beaches at the adjacent towns. The beaches are smaller in Amalfi and lovely in a different way. Puglia has beautiful beaches as well. If you go back to our videos I posted many in the tropea area. I also posted 2 years ago in Amalfi and Puglia. Those may visually show you the area and you can chose what areas beaches are best for what you’re looking for.
