Recarding the orbits: the Kerr metric admits three possible stable(!) orbits, as can be checked in the paper by Bardeen, Press, Teukolsky: Astrophysical Journal, Vol. 178, pp. 347-370 (1972): 1. For zero angular momentum: innermost stable orbit = 3 x Schwarzschild radius 2. For angular momentum a = M, corresponding to corotational behaviour: innermost stable orbit = 0.5 * Schwarzschild radius 3. For angular momentum a = M, corresponding to retrograde motion: innermost stable orbit = 9/2 * Schwarzschild radius. Obviously the time dilation speaks for solution 2 and so the claim is kind of correct that sooner or later other objects in the vicinity will vanish.
Wouldn't the ring be so incredibly bright that you couldn't actually see the event horizon at all? I had thought that was the most un realistic part. Our images of the black holes we do have for example are looking at wavelengths of light we normally cannot see in order to give us that image of the horizon. To our eyes in the movie it shouldn't look that different from a star I think
I think i saw from somewhere where they said the reason it doesnt look like the one we photographed is because of the angle it was taken from. Cuz they ended up flipping the angle and bluring things and it looked prety close
It’s crazy because no one knows what it should look like but yet everyone thinks they know. It’s really ignorance following ignorance. And I’m supposed to believe that? Yeah, thumbs down everyone. Don’t follow ignorance…
Scientists had calculated how it should look irl through toughest equation. We got simulations in which not humans but machines calculated how a black hole should look. Then we got image of a real black hole which resembled both scientists' calculated black hole and computer simulated black hole. So it's *not* ignorance. The physics and maths are deeper than you think and both have ability to solve most of the mysteries of space once we find right equations
So we're supposed to expect that your rendition is much better than kip thorn's rendition with a physics lab using a supermassive computer that interpreted all the equations to make the most accurate visual representation possibly is Just junk?
No it IS more accurate, the actual interstellar black hole purposely got rid of the doppler effect and spin in order to not confuse the audience. He did exaggerate the doppler effect though.
Great work. Looks like it was a lot of care put in and it shows. Am I wrong in thinking that the distance of the observer would alter our perspective pretty severely? As in, making the gravitational lensing more or less pronounced?
So what you’re saying is, they perfectly reconstructed a non-spinning, or slow spinning black hole. Sure that doesn’t exist in nature as far as we know, but it’s still possible. Your version is just more realistic, theirs is still correct though.
The disc orbiting the black hole should also be a lot bluer because of the extreme temperatures. (They didnt include this in the movie because it would be so hot that it would melt the spacecraft they were flying in)
I just wonder if the ruling party is ready for the emp bomb. The local population cannot change all of its transformers from china ASAP. The ruling party might be ready underground for that anyway all of their people are exposed on the land. Why worry when we are gone, it is our end. Why fight for it, the life is better in eternity, if it happens sayonara we are gone. Capice???
Very cool. We always see this perspective, and I am curious, how would it look not by-way-of the accretion disk? I know there is no 'up, down' etc. in space, but what would it look like from let's say 'above' looking down? Would our view be distorted due to gravity affecting visible light (think looking at a Derby hat from above with the brim curved up towards the viewer), or would it look like ______________?
Fun fact: did you know bc of the Curvature of the light, youre seeing the front and the back and the sides of the hole all at once, no matter where u at
