@RTGuitar10 frankensteined pickups. They're old Ibanez Infinity 1 and 2. But I took a coil off a bridge and a coil off a neck and wired them together. Some of the later ones had different spaced coils for the neck and bridge humbuckers so it wont work as great. They can be pretty thick sounding but because of the major mismatched coils they can get really sparkly clean when coil cut.
@@fattone HI brother , can u explain how u wire your pickups. U said u wired together neck and bridge? or u took single coil from it ? so which coils are on your 5th switch positions? Thx
Man that classic is crunchy as hell, sounds great! Your mods you've done to your 101B sound great too. I have another classic in route. Traded my 20th for it.
Goodly sir, what be the email for sir henry's builder? Would like to get on the waiting list...i've been to his website and it does not bring up yahoo email which I use to email people...if he does indeed have an email address that would be handy to know...Nice demo.
@keiranbradley3238 I wish I could go back in time and stock up on more vintage gear like Binson Echorecs maybe some old Marshalls and Fenders... This Uni-Vibe has a few nicks but looks great for the most part on video. Thanks for watching the vid!
You can try to put it on a screw with a metal tube as a sleeve so you can put it on a drill press. Then get something flat and put some 320 grit sand paper on that. As the roller spins on the drill press, lightly press the sanding block against it. You need to go light and make sure you are square to the roller. Naphtha will clean it if residue after, and then soap and water.
My Eric Johnson inspired rig. A couple of Echoplex units, some Deluxe Memory Men, an early TC Electronic Stereo Chorus, an early BK Butler Tube Driver running into a couple Bogner Ecstasy heads on clean channels. Cabinet has the older UK Celestion Vintage 30's with stamp on frames. Please Like and Subscribe!!!
My favorite is the silver top EP-3 on the floor, that one I bought first and was instant EJ. I got the black top that's on the stool later for a lot cheaper as it was not working. Only needed a new belt and a cleaning. Probably wouldnt sell either unless I found a good deal on one with the compressor boards. You can find EP-3s for a good deal every once in a while. Just make sure the motor works. Thank you for watching. Cheers.
Do you still have this univibe and is it possible to see a comparison to a Korg Nuvibe? I see you did compare to Sir Henry and Sweet Vibe. I own a Nuvibe and I have been dying to hear one compared to an original Shine-EI
I do still have this vibe. I've never compared it to a Nuvibe. I'd say first off the drifting capacitors are a major part of the tone and personality of these original units. Original components can be 1-3X their printed value which is why some sound more subtle and others sound deeper. The wiring is unshielded so even moving wires inside affects thw tone/respone of the unit. Also, that second pulse that sounds like a heartbeat/gallop is a big part.
@fattone I found a video with a comparison and it looks to me like the Nuvibe is a really close recreation of the proper Vibe sound, I’ve found mine to sound great but I keep thinking since it’s transistor based it may not be close enough but to my ear when I listen to Hendrix and try to play a song it’s quite close in tone
@matthewmclean3936 I've only owned an MJM 60's Classic Vibe, Violet Vibe, Midnight Vibe, and UltraVibe big box, two UltraVibe IIs, and a Sir Henry. I modded my UltraVibe II to a variation of a Honey Uni-vibe (Hendrix era) and it gets close to that Machine Gun pulse/throb not as phasey as the Shin-Ei variation. I need to listen more to the NuVibe. It was made by the original engineer of the Uni-Vibe.
@@fattone the MJM 60’s Classic Vibe was the photocell style vibe I want to buy and probably will sooner or later plus I want an original and the pedal pawn gypsy vibe is also tempting, I have a Nuvibe and a TC Viscous Vibe which is also very cool lots of options I am pretty happy with having 2 modern designed vibe pedals but I do want an original one day
A majority of the best sounding clips that Bogner used to have on their website were of the Bogner Classic. To me it has a more immediate feel but sounds spongy and chewy, slightly less gain than the 101B but more balanced channel to channel. The 101B feels spongy and chewy and non-immediate. More mid focused while the Classic is more balanced and has more low end available.
Yes, it uses the same chip but is true bypass, added modulation with 4 types of waveforms, tap tempo, and swell functions. He even added extra delay time in a mode so the repeats can get slightly darker/grainy if you want.
Sounds awesome! You’ve fixed all the issues with the EM5 and added the modern features 🤯 mind blown…amazing sounding pedal. Now all I need to know is how to I get one?!?
I didn't build. It was built by Supernaut Soundworks. You can find him on Instagram and order direct. He's in Germany and builds in batches so wait time and shipping is at minimum.
Or different transistors and circuit l... my BlackTop had 2n2926 transistors with low hfe and noisy. Several chang3s in circuit. The SilverTops were easy and sounded great.
Oh man two blue channels is a great mod! I've always thought the blue would be a killer single channel amp. Just having two with different gain levels is making me want that. Well done.
Hi Isaac, a friend of mine and I are making a faithful replica of the legendary Univibe but we can't find reliable measurements of the box on the web. We will have a friend make the box but we will need the measurements of the pedal. Would you do me the great favor of writing me the measurements? I would be very grateful. Thank you! Marcello from Italy😸🎸
Different transistors, small values on two caps .018 vs .022, smaller emitter resistor. Couple all that with the huge range of travel of the treadle. The crybaby/vox style have about 1- 1.5" of travel, where the Farfisa has 2-2.5". Component wise it's a tweaked Italian style wah. There are also old Maestro Wah Wah Volumes in all metal grey/green. Less gain and not as robust in the gear mechanism. But for some reason the Maestro and Farfisa function great as filter boosts for gain stuff. This one here had mulch in it as well as rust and water damage when I bought it but it is my favorite.
I thought it was Uni-Vibe for the longest time but I think it was actually a Maestro Phase PS-1B with variable speed knob. I got a PS-1A with 3 speed footswitch and that's the sound.
Hey nice demo. I have the same AB box and notice my EP-3 sounds fuller driving the front of my amp. Inside that AB box you’ll see that it’s buffered and I suspect input impedance is too low for the EP. It was similar to when I tried EP in my FX loop.
Really, I'll check that out. I've been going straight lately with my EP-3 blacktop testing out some new tape formula and trying to get it sounding good. Have been running the Deluxe Memory Man in the loop of the AB but if it's not powered that may explain the high end loss...
It depend on what you prefer, in my opinion the Sir Henry is far and away the most similar to the original Vibe pedal. But that also means it affects your guitar tone quite a lot when engaged, it has the same Mid focused sound as the vintage vibe. As opposed to modern ones that try to “keep your tone intact” or have a more flat EQ. I absolutely love the Sir Henry, it nails the Hendrix sound, but I play very low output Suhr pickups in a strat style Suhr guitar. I could see mid-focused pickups not working as well possibly. My experience with most of the popular Vibes is they are too phaser like, with too much symmetry in the pulsing effect, while the Sir Henry has that lopsided pulsing that’s really reminiscent of the original. Although I’ve only played the analog ones and haven’t tried the brand new ones like Strymon that emulate it digitally, knowing them I bet you can get a really close sound to Sir Henry by tweaking it, while also having options to modify the EQ.
The Maestro has a Clarostat potentiometer which affects the tone/sweep. I like it and it has a similar vocal range which is not too trebly. You can get a Joe Gagan replacement pot which is closer to the old pots in the first Maestros and that will hit a larger range into treble. With the Gagan pot the Volume function actually works with no volume loss. I have two Farfisa wahs, one with a switch in front to go from organ to guitar setting and another with no switch. The one with no switch was rusty and water damaged when I got it but it is my favorite wah. A lot of throaty vocal midrange that is better for high gain. The other Farfisa with no switch has more treble content like vintage range but more power or volume. Volume function on the Farfisa has tone loss and volume loss.
@leonardorafael all I know is I replaced the 4 different components in the non switch Farfisa with the same parts like were in the switch version Farfisa and they didn't sound the same.
Thank you for this interesting and educational video. In the late 70s when I was a teenager learning to play guitar I borrowed an echoplex from a friend and I had a lot of fun with it. Throughout my decades of playing music I always wanted to get an Echoplex but instead, I went through a parade of various delay pedals. For quite a while I did use the Roland SDE1000, which I think is a very good sounding delay, but nothing ever sounded as mesmerizingly beautiful as the echoplex. A few weeks ago, I finally purchased one (the black face version). I wish I would have seen this video beforehand, I might have chosen the silver. I didn't realize they would be so different sounding even though they are both EP-3. Anyway, well done video and thank you once again for creating and posting it.
Thank you for watching. What's interesting is that looking at the inside circuits of both the Black top should be brighter but isn't. This could come down to the first transistor in each so yours might should better than mine. I just recapped my silver and though it got punchier, I didn't like it with my usual gain pedal. Seriously thinking of putting the old caps back in. I'd love to hear yours if you ever get a chance to record a vid. I need to share a more current vid. Oh and the spring tension arm makes a difference in echo repeat loudness and number of repeats. With new tape in both they get endless repeats at 5.5 on the Sustain knob now without oscillating into feedback. Really happy with them now.
Ive dug my fulltone dejva vibe for years.. But been wanting to try something like gypsy vibe, sir john henry or something.. Curious to hear the violet vibe vs a gypsy.
I hear that the late 2022/2023 Violet/Midnight are really kicking ass. I'll admit I've been looking at older Deja Vibes too. Don't need one but always wondering what if. Those older original large box Fulltone's look and sound really cool.
The Sir Henry definitely retains the core tone and gets watery, Hendrix tones. Tighter low end when gained up. But there's no denying the 1970's Shin-ei for swirly Pink Floyd tones. Were you talking about Original 70's Japanese Shin-ei Uni-Vibe or the Austin based brand (Vibe-Bro)?
