I love this! I became a workaholic a few years back and run myself hard and fast all the time between grad school, work, and volunteering and consulting for state and local governments and nonprofits. The only problem for me? When I kicked the engine into overdrive... I had been in failing health for 4 years already. It was a devils bargain. I have missing organs from a childhood accident but overwork has caused respiratory failure, nervous system collapse, tumors (noncancerous so far), complete failure of my immune system, and clotting disorders that have caused both a stroke and pulmonary embolism and much more. I have no regrets though! I have made a difference, saved lives, and I'd rather live 10 years in failing health transforming my community before Death comes than I would 60 years of mediocrity and self-imposed depression. What am I outrunning? A dead kid I left behind. The younger me my parents left to die in the subzero temperatures of a frigid Janurary. I'll join him when I am good and ready :)
