We're model railroad enthusiasts who live in the northeastern United States. We dabble mostly in G, HO, and N gauge model railroads but also run Lionel trains at holiday times. We'll review items from our growing model railroad collection, walk you through the various projects we might have going on, and take you on real train rides and excursions. We'll also take you on other, non train related, adventures!
I was 9-years-old when my father took me to the top of Mount Washington on the cog railway (1962). We had a little summer cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee when I was a kid.
Love driving to the white mountains and around Lake Winnipesaukee! My first trip to the top of Mt Washington was on the auto road as a kid. It was terrifying! Did not get on the cog RR until I was adult. It's a great day trip. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yup! Lot of moving parts on those steam locomotives. Don't forget that pervasive lubricating oil smell around the loco as well! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great unboxing video. (0:56) I never used those strong scissors to unbox a Bachmann HO Scale Thomas & Friends engine and/or rolling stock before because the plastic packaging is IMPOSSIBLE to open. Quick question though… what are those strong scissors that you use to unbox Bachmann HO Scale Thomas & Friends engines and/or rolling stock packaging?
Hey TWProductions, thanks for watching and commenting! Those scissors are from a company called Kuhn Rikon. They cut through almost anything (within reason). We bought a bunch of them from QVC when they were on a buy 3 special ($35 for three I think). We've had ours for a while, so not sure if they still carry them. We keep a set in each car, the kitchen and the workshop. I think they're some of the best general scissors we've owned. As you pointed out, they have no trouble with that tough Bachmann packaging.
I'm about to return my Beau to TrainWorld via USPS due to poor running performance and coming with a detached boiler rod. I told TrainWorld about it and we agreed to have a replacement sent. I was smart enough to keep the original Bachmann packaging despite having opened it and can only hope the replacement is better.
As long as they're willing to replace it, I'd say do it. Hopefully the replacement will have secure boiler rods and run as well as you would expect. Good luck and thanks for watching and commenting!
Hey, I was the commenter! I’m glad you were able to get a replacement. These things happen, but the manufacturer needs to be held responsible for ensuring each model is satisfactory before it leaves the factory. Very glad to hear TrainWorld was so willing to help you out. All the best!
Oh, I remember! Thanks again for that heads up! I hope you don't mind that I didn't mention you by name in the video. I did think about it, but I know people who don't like to be called out by name in a public forum and even though you're on youtube, I didn't want to assume. Thanks again!
@@Northeasttrainyard Thank you. I am still in the planning/layout phase. I need mine elevated, and I'm an accomplished gardener, too, so I need to work it in and around my existing plantings. I hope to lay the first elevations (I have to figure out what works best) this winter when the plantings are mostly dormant.
@@DowntheLineRemakes the narrow gauge track is Atlas N scale flex track. The connections were soldered. We’ve been happy with flex track. Thanks for watching!
Since this is just a Bachmann old time 4-4-0 with a face and their current line of 4-4-0 locomotives are either DCC ready or DCC with sound, does anyone know if these are DCC ready? Or did they cheap out and remove that ability?
Believe it or not I thought about getting some Union Jacks for the British locomotives. Definitely next year! In the meantime are there any British holidays coming up we can celebrate here by running some Thomas characters with the Union Jack?
Nice review and run! Emily is one of my favorite characters in Thomas & Friends. Little known fact about Emily: During the production of Series 6 of Thomas & Friends, a member of the production crew had built a Sterling Single in his own time. When the other members saw the design they liked it and some have commented that the cylinder casing bared a resemblance to women's hair. The team soon decided that the Sterling Single would make the perfect basis for a female character, and the rest is Thomas & Friends history.
Great story! It wasn't until we did our detailed review and looked at Emily from all angles that we noticed the transition from the smoke box to the cylinders and how much it looked like a head of hair. That detail gives Emily a lot of personality. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for watching and commenting! I have to credit my son for picking the music for most of the the videos. I agree the Scottish music was a good match for these two locos!
We're aware of tip tinning. If you look at about 15:44 on the video, we do tin the tip of the iron. We've tinned both with the solder itself and also with a tip tinning paste we tried from Amazon. The tip tinning paste actually worked pretty good. That said, we were soldering track for the first time ever so our tip tinning technique might not have been quite up to par (the tip didn't get that nice shiny coating of solder you look for). I do think we've gotten better as we've taken on more soldering. Thanks for watching!
Oh, that’s easy! My son’s favorite Bachman Thomas character locomotive is Duck. Mine is a toss up between Emily and Toby because of their uniqueness. I’d probably go with Emily if I have to choose one. How about you?
@@Northeasttrainyard To Explain I Was At The Train Show This Year To see Model Trains Running Around The Layouts. When Gonna Buy Bachmann Ryan But They Didn't Have Him. So This Year I'll Get Him For My 34th Birthday In November On The 7th.
Great review and running of Beau from the BWBA movie shame the eyes don’t move like the rest of the Thomas Bachmann range but still a fantastic model thanks for sharing this 👍💙🚂
Your model is missing the two gold supports that go from the pilot to the smokebox (see Bachmann’s online photo for reference). They could be somewhere in the packaging as I have seen others come loose in transit. I would contact Bachmann if you can’t find them.
Thanks Derekm, we actually noticed some small holes where it looked like small parts like those supports should go but brushed it off. We checked the packaging pretty carefully at unboxing, but I checked it again after your comment and still couldn’t locate them. I checked another RU-vid unboxing video and it looked like they should have been pre attached. Anyway, I’ll contact Trainworld first (where we bought it) and Bachmann if necessary. Thanks for the heads up and commenting!
Thanks, Jersey Bill! Heard the train horn and had just enough time to get my phone out to record. Shot on my Samsung Galaxy S9 phone. Thanks for watching and commenting!
