I sincerely really enjoyed this interview. Thank you so much, Matt. Lillywhite's approach with DMB changed my life in terms of how I could perceive music and sonic elements, as if a whole new world opened up in my living experience. The bond that Dave, the band and Steve seemed to form was so deep and meaningful as it produced such great art. Not that I really know him of course, but from my perspective, Steve seems so humble for how much he accomplishes with artists and still seems to be excited about music production and his craft. It's such an interesting "project study" on what can impact communication and group dynamics, even at the highest levels. Interesting, but also quite tough to hear more information on exactly what transpired and I feel sadness over how things went down for Steve, especially with the label note that didn't thank him. Nobody is perfect, but man Steve really seemed to have a beautiful vision and way of promoting the group as a unified entity to the world, not just Dave as a solo artist, and helped them to become the magnificent creative force they are. Seen them over 60 times live and was able to catch Leroi's last show before the ATV accident in Bristow, VA. Still an amazing band, but that time was so magical. I'm always fascinated by the complexity of Leroi's persona as he was such an amazing artist who seemed to experience so much internally. I am going to make sure to check out the Records and Riffs podcast for sure now as you are a great interviewer!
I was a huge fan of dmb early stuff, literally up to the Album Busted Stuff. After hearing the Lillywhite recordings before I heard Busted stuff, I couldnt understand why it happened that way. Why did they release Busted stuff over the amazing Lillywhite stuff. And I hate to say it but he hasn't released a song Ive enjoyed since then. I still love the music I loved but man, he just lost it in my ears. He took a record and "abandoned it"(which he really didnt because awful re recordings of big eyed fish and grace is gone prove he still used those songs) so he could record them again with some pop producer named Glen Balard. Who is talented in his own right im sure, but not for dmb. And then he came out and said it was too personal and that was why it was not released but when i heard it, i liked it as much if not more than his older great stuff. I did it, despite having a great video, marked the end of me enjoying Dave's new writing.
Saratoga (SPAC) is an amazing two day show every year. I havent missed it in the past 5 years and have gone many years before that. They always bring insane amounts of energy for this NY kickoff

I'm in Malaysia and was a DMB fan since before Under The Table. Heard these bits and pieces from Lilywhite Sessions, a song or two from what I can download from the net back then and was so intrigued. After months of trolling the internet, forums and message boards, found a guy who made an open offer for anybody who wanted a copy for the full Lilywhite Sessions to send in a self addressed blank cd-r for him to transfer and mail it back. Was so excited, proceeded to buy a cd-r, put in my details on the envelope (or was it a prepaid Fed-Ex) and sent to him via courier (again either Fed-Ex or DHL). Sat and twiddled my thumb waiting for the cd but it never arrives. After a few months of waiting, I resigns to the fact that I'm never going to get my cd, and after a few years, I wonder if I'm in the Homeland, or the Army or even CIA's list. Fact was, I sent a blank cd to a guy addressed to an army base in Hawaii. 3-4 days after I sent it, 911 happened. I got my own download a few months later and to the army guy, sorry if my blank cd got you in trouble.
This is amazing! I love hearing everyone give their 2 cents and seeing them interact with each other! So nice to see LeRoi and remember him! He was amazing! ❤️
i love learning about DMB. interesting to learn about this 20 years later. just saw them again for the first time since i was 8 years old. my love for them grew so much and i can't get enough of them now

Given that I watched the documentary on Netflix about what would occur later that night into the next day, I’m glad their set was played before things got way out of hand.
