Even works on the 2008 S40! The only difference is they used screws for the window holder and of course the actuator is completely different. ONLY LOOSEN, do not remove the screws completely on the window. It's a clamping system. I used 1.5 turns and it was enough to get the window loose. The actuator was riveted in and I decided to leave it be for now. Darn thing is perfectly happy to lock, but unlocking with the physical key doesn't work anymore and unfortunately the issue is somewhere within the actuator. Wouldn't have been an issue if the keyfob still worked.
Thank you for this video. I had all of my door lock actuators replaced under the recall in 2021. The front passenger door will not latch closed when you close the door. I replaced that actuator thanks to your video but I still have the same problem. The door will not latch. Could there be an electrical issue? Not sure what to do next.
Great! Thanks for the video. I was to the point of just pulling the inner panel out until it broke loose but then i stopped, smoked a cigarrette and watched your video. All is good now. Thanks
Excellent video! One of my passenger rear doors fails to open sometimes, but intermittently. It will open perfectly for weeks, then all of a sudden fail to open again. Will this be the door lock actuator?
Thank you... Great job for pretty much showing us what I've been looking for: how to remove that plastic housing that hold the window (and everything else) and what's behind it... BUT missed showing us (like you said you would 🤔) on replacing the window.... getting those clips back in those window holes) except to warn us on how 'fidgety' it may be....... tho you made is sound simple enough "when you 'pop' the window back.... also I am a tad freaked, now that I've actually seen the inside (behind the plastic curtain) My issue for dismantling the door is to try to 'hammer' out a bit of a sideswipe dent now that looks like there's some more plastic covering the inner part of the skin (with 3 diagonal ribs) I'm hoping that some wood over them with maybe enough to return the shape a bit any way..
Thank you sir for the video, I got the actuator changed and putting it back together but I'm having a hell of a time with the door handle not going back together and working properly is there anything you can point me to?
So I was driving down the road the other day door fly's open had to reach out pull it shut couldn't get the latch to lock again bought a new one same thing latch won't lock ??? Does this latch need power to lock into place
I would like to say a big thank you 🙏 For a very pedagogical video 👌 Just follow the steps and it was very easy But kinda embarrassing when an American tech me as a swede how to fix a Volvo 😅
Well done! God damn Volvo Engineers are bad, hahaha! Very common fault as well, cant lock the doors as any other car brand without it working, due to non-manual locking mechanism. 600 euro to fix their joke design per door. It will keep me away from the brand for life for sure 😂
This Guide is so great! Cannot thank you enough! Did the doorlock exchange in like one hour. The only thing I struggled a bit was getting the window out (one of the push tabs was resisting me). Also this part was not 100% clear in the video. All other steps worked perfectly and it was so easy when you know what you re doing. Makes you think if Volvo makes it complicated on purpose.... Thanks so much again! Greetings from Germany!
I didn't realize just how close manufacturers are building cars. I used to build Hyundais back in the day and they had the same philosophy of "Put it all on the insert"
Im UK, 2015 s60. Front passager door. Anyone know , they do recalls here in UK ? I was in uk's recalls page by VIN nothing shows up for my car. Is it worth calling dealer? Any Exp? Before i do myself.
Hi Todd, i had my volvo C70 painted, and after the paint, I noticed that the RFID for the passenger's door does not function. Meaning, if the doors are locked, and I approach the passenger's door with my key (NFC) and i try to open, it does not respond. It works fine from driver's door, but with Passenger's Door, i have to use the remote to unlock my car. The NFC/RFID function works fine even with trunk. I went back to the body shop and I asked if they've done something that I can perhaps reverse to get this important function working, but I guess they were afraid and they denied doing anything with the lock mechanism. I once took my car to the dealership, they wanted US$350 for it. Now, the dealership has changed. I just turned my car in for service, and I asked them to check this out. From your experience, would you give any hints as to what is causing this?
Fixed my V60 with above video. Great but also watch how to dismantle and refit your door handle below in the comments as I didn't do that until I got stuck for 1 hour! Just be aware that some Volvo models like mine have glued on tabs on the window instead of a window with cut outs and that's a pain to get in and out and you have to restraighten the rubber seals after refitting window.
Thansk for video. I have issue with both rear back doors on my Volvo V40 D2 2013 Mod. I can't open it from both side. I have checked all fuse with no problems. What can I do to open it up and what do you think is the issue?
Hi ! Thank you for this amazing video that allready save me one time ! Now I have an other problem. My driver door is blocked and I can just open the door from inside. I tried to fix it but it's impossible to remove the handle. This on is never blocked by the screw so it's impssible to remove the panel. Can you help me please ? thank you
Not too often I post a comment, but thanks this was super helpful. I had a problem the outside handle not opening the door, turned out the cable had just came off!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for including the recall info! I was about to start working on the lock when I saw the link. I checked and sure enough there was a recall for the locks on my car. The Volvo dealership replaced all four, no charge. Your thoughtfulness saved me a lot of time, aggravation, and swearing.
I have the 2012 S60 and when I called the dealer they said I have to bring it in ($150 minimum charge) then they will let me know if it's covered under warranty. I guess I'll try that first but happy to see this video if it doesn't get fixed by Volvo.
I have not checked with the dealer but online my gf vehicle said there were no recalls. So I proceeded to replace it and after the whole ordeal it didn't fix it. Tomorrow I'll see what the dealer tells me.
Volvo has recalled 2011-2017 S60 and V60 models. They will replace these locks free of charge. Go to www.nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your car is on the list or contact your Volvo dealer. If you have already replaced one they may give you a credit for the repacement.
Great video, i followed your steps on the front door and that worked perfectly, I tried the same thing on the back doors but I can’t seem to get the window it self out, I can’t rotate it or seem to lift it out.. smh
@@rauls7997 Ive got a solution, the entire processe is pretty much the same, there’s a hidden screw up top in towards the car on each side off the inner door panel. Other than that, I couldn’t manage to get the window out but in order to replace my speakers and so whatever else you have to do there other that actually replacing the window it self, you can just loosen it and then tape it using any strong tape to the top frame/edge of the door it self, you simply just like hang it over and have the tape taped to each side of the windowglass over the door, hanging. That worked for me hope it helps
I have a problem with my V40 2014... Panel and window mechanism are the same. Problem is that my window can't close fully, but it stays open for about 0.5 cm. Do you think I can achieve anything by myself - is there a way to adjust window guides or tbe only solution is to put new guides? Thanks in advance.
Todd Burris thank you I also have another question so my sunroof is kind of acting up I have to push it up to tilt position then it kind of won’t go back down and then I have to push it forward I’m pretty sure my Volvo’s sunroof is automatic but mine is messing up
Hello! I have a V40 2013 and some times when is freezing outside two doors won't open anymore...if I let the car in the garage and it gets warm the locks start to work again as normal. What do you think it is happening? If I open the door panels and put some grease does it helps? Thank you very much!
Thanks Todd - the bit I’m stuck on is pushing the ‘tabs’. There is a small hole in the frame with a tab that holds a cable. Do you push this bit or the side of the tab? It’s not clear on the video as obviously impossible to film in the hole. I push the tab but just feel resistance? Thanks.
Thanks Todd, this really helped disassembling the door on my s60. I'd also advice everyone watching this video on how the little screw works before pulling out the external handle so you know how it works. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AVH4w22HJXM.html
