Nice mallet. Did the leather stay in place? CA glue tends to be brittle and breaks with impact. Also what is holding your head in place? Looks like it will fall down the handle quite easily.
What a great DP. Wish you could have done a complete restoration, stripping it down to bare... replacing bearings, wire-wheel all the steel parts. Basically restore it to show room finish. Nice video. Appreciated the high speed. Watched it silently no comment on the audio.
Bruh!!! I never cringed like that watching someone operating a table saw. Please watch some safety videos and install kick back guard. Otherwise job well done.
You should try using a hand plane next time you want to plane down the faces of a piece of wood :) personally I find it often goes quicker than using a table saw where you have to constantly readjust the blade.
Dude, you look so young. I say that with respect and admiration for taking on this on and doing such an amazing job. That machine is beautiful, it's a work of art. You realize you have to name her when you're finished.
Good grief man! You are just a perfect storm in a workshop huh. Between me watching intently waiting to see the cross section of a human thumb, and you walking away from power tools that you've left running. It's a good thing that you have your own workshop; because I wouldn't let you near mine. js I guess I better wish you a safe, and Happy New Year 2020 Edit: This video is from 2017. I'm going to watch a current video an see if you still have all you fingers...
Awesome video! You should definitely do a full blown restoration on it (if you haven't already done so). And as for paint, that's up to you my friend, she's all yours now. But if you do decide to repaint it, I would consider keeping the color as close as possible to the original. That's what I did for my 1953 Atlas table top drill press when I restored it, and I love the color. I'm typing this as I sit 6 feet away from my beauty. Cheers mate, from America!!!!!
That’s a very nice job you have done. That’s a lot of cleaning and painting. You are a very talented young man. I love these old machines, they were built to last for generations! I have an old “Powermatic” thickness planer, and that thing is a BEAST!
key chain return cable on the chuck key is dangerous, 15 years ago a fella lost his hand when he forgot the key in the chuck and the wire wrapped around when he turned it on. just put a magnet on the press to hold it instead. I love this old drill, i didn't know Atlas had made one so heavy duty.
leaning over spinning blades and no ppe wise up lad close the fence so you don't need to stretch over the blades all it takes is a knot in the wood to kick a little and your face first into those blades. nice machine and great job but your safety is more important! for the love of god at the very least get some safety specs on!
Good job so far. One quick suggestion for you. Anytime your prime a metal surface, you should wet sand it to remove the dust and leftover burrs on the surface before you paint. :)
Beast of a machine. Good work. There is a 12" Northfield jointer on Craigslist here, but the guy wants $3900 for it. Too much for my budget and my shop is too small for it. But I look at it and want it so badly.
