Hi, and welcome to my gaming channel! I mostly post Battlefield 1943 videos that I recorded in 2023 before the servers got shut down, but you might also find other content from time to time.
I wish we did, but unfortunately EA shut down the servers in early December of 2023. Players played the game until the very end, though. I recorded a huge backlog of episodes before the shutdown so that I could continue to post regular episodes for a few years.
During the games prime years. I wish EA had patched the game. So your teams planes can't go near the enemy bases. So it gives them a chance to use the boats to get onto the land.
One risk with such a system is that I think it could easily be exploited. For instance, if you have a plane on your tail, you could just head towards your carrier and the enemies would not be able to get you. Maybe it could work in such a way that it only restricted going near enemy bases at the start of the match and when the enemy team hold all the flags? Another possible solution could have been to not allow the planes to spawn at the start of the match. That is, that the planes only spawned in after a few minutes so that both teams have time to take boats to the island. Both of these solutions have one problem, though, and that is that they take away a really intense and fun moment in a match; that first few minutes where you get into a plane and rush towards the enemy carrier to try to get the boats before they could get ashore, having to quickly decide if you should focus on incoming enemy planes or take your chances on taking out a few boats. On matches with balanced teams, that was so much fun. I've actually often been thinking about this, trying to figure out what a possible solution would have looked like to avoid home base trapping. But every time I think I have a solution, I realize that it would risk messing with the fun factor of the game. Earlier I was pondering a solution where the enemy is given a random flag or two automatically if the game detects that the enemy team is being base spawn trapped, so that they would have a flag to spawn on, but I don't know. There are probably pitfalls to that solution as well. Another possible solution could have been to make anti-air weapons (AA-guns and mounted machine guns) really strong towards planes if one team holds all the flags (but that it only applied towards the team holding all the flags). Then it would be harder to use planes to spawn trap an enemy team. It does not fix the problem of players camping at the shore in tanks taking out boats as they approach land, though. Another possible solution could be to have your solution of restricting movement towards the enemy home base (similar to how it functions when you go outside the borders of the map, i.e. a countdown where you die if you don't turn around), but have the radius of the restricted area depend on the balance of the teams, if one team holds all the flags and perhaps also the ticket ratio (i.e. that if a team is losing badly, they get a bigger restrict radius around their home base to make sure they don't get home base trapped). It still doesn't fix the problem of players camping with tanks, but you could make it so that the bullets don't go far in the restricted zone to take care of that. With this solution we could still have the fun and intense moments of rushing towards the enemy carriers at the start of a match. If the teams are balanced, the restrict radius would be small (or not be there at all) so that we still get those fun moments. But if the teams are not balanced, or if the enemy team holds a lot of the flags or are leading significantly in tickets, then the restrict radius would grow to give the other team a fighting chance. If a match was unbalanced, but then turned around becoming more balanced, the restrict radius would shrink again. What do you think?
Yeah, DICE has always been good with sound. But I actually prefer the sound of the M1 Garand in BF1943 compared to BFV. It just sounds so powerful in BF1943!
As the title suggests, this might be the last episode in this series. While I've had some fun matches (playing with TheBentleys being my favourite), the game never really clicked for me. I might go back to the game again some day and make more videos, but for now this will be the last episode.
@@thecoolninjakid75 I have BF1942 with the two expansions as well as BF2 from "back in the day". Never played them online though, only against bots. I also recently bought a used copy of Bad Company 2 for PC just in case I get back into PC gaming (been a Mac user for the last years). It would have been interesting to try out the community server project for Bad Company 2 (Project Rome). I also have Bad Company 1 and 2 on console (and BF1943 of course). In addition I bought Battlefield 1 on sale a while back, but I haven't got around to try it out.
It was a great map for sure. Btw, I mentioned in this episode that I had been trying to do the fast repair trick off camera in the tutorial. I first learned about that trick from watching your videos, heh.
Always predictable seeing benni join on sens games and then taking the enemy planes haha. 😅😅 You handled the pressure really well. Well done this was fun to watch back
Haha! I love that the player base was small enough that one would play against the same players so often that one would start to really know their playstyle and small quirks after a while.
It doesnt hit the same spot 1943 did, but its better than nothing... We need to start a petition and start emailing DICE and EA to remaster 1943. It would be amazing to have 64 v 64 1943 at 4k60 on the current consoles.
A 4K60 remaster would have been sweet, but I would personally not want any changes to the graphics besides just rendering out the current models and textures in 4k60. One of my main complaints of BFV, for instance, is that the visuals, while pretty to look at, are so lush and detailed that I really struggle to see enemy players a lot of the time. For me, the visuals in BF1943 struck the perfect balance of fidelity and clarity. The fidelity was high enough for the game to feel immersive, but at the same time I could always see what was going on. I wasn't even bothered by the 30fps, but it would be very interesting to see the current models and textures rendered out in 4K60. I'm not so sure about the 64 v 64, though. Since the maps were designed for 12 v 12, I think 64 v 64 would feel very crowded. I could see going as high as 15 v 15 working without problems, but I think larger maps would be necessary for 64 v 64 to work. However, personally I would not want bigger maps as I feel the smaller maps lent itself very well to the simple pick-up-and-play gameplay of BF1943.
I know the feeling when you are aiming at close range at an enemy and whatever you do all firing attempts just seem to go funky - and then you're dead.
"- and then you're dead"... followed by blaming Dice, hehe. One of my biggest complaints of the gunplay was the inconsistency of the time allowed to fire the rifle grenade after switching. Some times you could fire immediately after switching while other times you had to wait for the switch animation to finish (even if the rifle grenade was loaded and ready). I could never find a reliable way of getting the quick-fire after switching. I died so many times because of not being able to fire right away after switching to the rifle grenade.
Keep fighting the good fight! GG's bro. People are /still/ playing Battlefield 2 on custom PC servers. Outstanding! I do rally games these days. The retro factor! (a tear in my eye).
I'm actually considering buying a small gaming PC just to play some of the older shooters. I do actually have a copy of BF2 sitting on my shelf, but I never tried it online. Back in the day I just played offline against bots. If I get around to buying a gaming PC, I would probably go for another game first, though, as I have been wanting to try out the community driven servers of Bad Company 2, as that is a game I also played back in the day. When I played BF1943 on PS3 back in the day, I would alternate between playing BF1943 and Bad Company 2. While I preferred BF1943, I remember Bad Company 2 was also a ton of fun.
This game was so fun, I only had the privilege of playing it a few times just recently last year and I am pretty sad that the servers have been shut down and regret not playing more.
I feel you, man. I actually have similar regrets. I started playing the game on PS3 when it came out in 2009. Played it casually for a few years, but then I had many years of not playing. Picked it up again in late 2022/early 2023 when I started making videos of the game (on Xbox this time). Even though I was lucky enough to experience 1425 matches on Xbox and 412 on PS3, I still wish I had more time with the game. There was still so much I wanted to do with the game, so many areas where I wanted to improve. Sigh, so many years where I could have played, but didn't. However, I'm really glad you got the opportunity to play this awesome game before it was too late. Maybe some day we will be able to play it again.
If we had a PC port, we probably would have been able to play on community servers as soon as the official servers shut down. The worst part is that they were working on a PC port, but it got cancelled! Such as shame.
Wait did they bring back the game servers, couldve sworn ea shut them down back in December Edit: nevermind just saw that one comment explaining when the gameplay was from
I wish they did, but unfortunately they did not. All episodes in this series were recorded in 2023 before the shutdown. I wanted to make a huge backlog before the servers shut down so that I could continue to post regular BF1943 videos for years to come.
@@glennpruess6936 I actually played on Xbox Series X, but yeah, I was on the Xbox servers during my last year (started out on PS3 "back in the day", though). The name seems familiar, but I can't immediately remember if I ran into that player. Was that your gamertag?
@@glennpruess6936 I looked through published episodes to see if we maybe played with or against each other, but unfortunately I was not able to find you in the already published episodes. However, there are 1000 episodes in total, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are future episodes with you in them.
Hehe, yeah if you saw one, the other was usually close by. Both skilled players. Edit: Btw, RU-vid seems to have bugged out with your comment. For some strange reason, it only shows up if you change the comment sorting on the video from "top comment" to "newest first". And it didn't show up for me either until I by chance tried going to the video and changing the sorting. RU-vid would indicate yesterday that the video had a comment, but I found no way of actual viewing the comment. So annoying.
Yeah, I'm really curious now too. I had totally forgotten about that moment until I suddenly remembered it after discussing the optimal number of players with you, heh.
All episodes in this series was recorded before the shutdown. I made a huge backlog before the game got shut down so that I could continue to post BF1943 videos for several years after the shutdown.
This game was amazing. I remember this was one of the first download only games for the consoles. I wish they continued making games just like this for the various different famous wars
It was such a gem of a game. More games like this would have been sweet (or you know, just reopen the servers for this one, heh) as there are no games on the marked that give the same kind of experience that you could get from BF1943.
That's a tough one. My first instinct would be to not mess with what worked. The maps were designed for 12 vs. 12, so I would be very careful to make changes to the number of players. And I would not want larger maps as I think the smaller maps are more suitable for the simple pick-up-and-play style of BF1943. There is actually not a lot I would want to see changed (except for fixing annoying bugs). There is one change I have been thinking of lately, however. I always thought it was a pity that so few players played Coral Sea. While recording this series, I would actually pretty often go into Coral Sea to try to record episodes, but most of the time there were no other players there. One change it would have been interesting to see if worked, would be to put Coral Sea in the normal map rotation instead of its own game mode. Now while I thought Coral Sea was fun, I can see that it might not be everyone's taste if they don't like flying. So what I would do is to have it in the normal map rotation, but with a lower probability of appearing so that it would only appear once in a while. One could also perhaps lower the ticket amount so that the match would be finished slightly faster. That way we would see more gameplay on Coral Sea, but it would only happen once in a while, in addition to be over quicker than normal, so to not be annoying to players who were not the biggest fan of flying. The map would instead work as a small intermission once in a while between the normal maps. I'm not sure if it would have been a good idea, but I would have liked to be able to get more good matches on Coral Sea than what I got in the original game. I've also been trying to think of ways to reduce base spawn trapping, but every time I think I have a solution, I realize that the solution could risk lowering the fun of the game or otherwise just be annoying. What about you, any changes you would have wanted to see in the game?
@@LeotseilGaming I have played Coral Sea maybe 10 times or less. I just didn't have any interest in flying, but that is an interesting idea. I am wondering if I would drop out when that map came up. I probably wouldn't if it was for a short time. I grew to enjoy flying, but wouldn't last long in the air if there was a skilled pilot. I wouldn't change much if anything about BF43. It would be fun to try to play with more people to see what that's like, but one of the reasons I can't get into the other Battlefield games is that there are too many people and I can't survive for more than a couple of minutes at most. I haven't adjusted well to that. My main complaint with BF43 was the lag issues. I don't know how much of that you experienced, but it was the most frustrating part of the game for me. Other than that, it was a perfect game and easily my most played game of all time.
"I am wondering if I would drop out when that map came up." Yup, that is certainly the biggest risk of that idea. The lower probability of appearing and lower ticket count could possible lower that risk, but there would still be a risk of players just quitting and rejoining to get another map when Coral Sea appeared. Maybe it would be necessary to make small changes to the map to have there be something to do for players who didn't like flying. Maybe have a land area in the middle where players could fight and capture the flag from the ground or landing craft? It probably should have been called something else than Coral Sea then... Seeing how the maps played with more players would certainty be interesting. While I think 12 vs 12 would be optimal (at least not more than 15 vs 15) it would have been worth it to experiment with different player counts just to see how the gameplay felt. I felt the low player count made the matches feel more intimate and you often got fun rivalry towards specific enemy players and a nice sense of comradery with your own team mates. I've only played BFV of the more modern BF Games, but yeah. Hugh player counts and huge maps. Not my cup of tea. I often spend a lot of time just running to get to the action, just to get killed out of nowhere because the visuals are so cluttered that I struggle to see the enemy. Maybe I'm just getting old, hehe. Before BFV I had almost never played a modern multiplayer shooter. When I was young I would always be impressed with improvements in graphical fidelity and wanted games to have more and more fidelity. But playing BFV made me realize I don't want more "realistic" graphics. I want clean visuals where I can see that is going on. To me BF1943 struck the perfect balance between fidelity and clarity and I'll take the graphics of BF1943 over modern graphics any day. I did encounter some lag issues, but not so much to be frustrating. There will be a few episodes where the server seemed to have a life of its own, though, heh.
@@sappyjohnson Oh, I just remembered something. There was actually a match that I recorded (pretty sure I did anyway) where something must have bugged out because suddenly for a brief moment the enemy team had 13 players! I don't think it made it into an episode, but I should try to find that moment and make a RU-vid Shorts of it just to show that it could happen. Only problem being that since it didn't make it into an episode, I'll have to search through the raw recordings, which means searching through over 4 TB of footage. Like finding a needle in a haystack, heh. Edit: I just found the clip, hehe. But I got something wrong, it was our team that got 13 players for a brief moment.
Yeah, the graphics hold up pretty good. I actually prefer these graphics to the graphics in modern games. For me, this struck the perfect balance between fidelity and clarity. The fidelity was high enough to get immersed in the gameplay, but I could still clearly see what was going on. The visuals are "clean" for lack of a better word. As a comparison, I played a bit of BFV and while that game certainty looks "better" as far as fidelity goes, the visuals are just so cluttered that I can't see the enemy a lot of the time.
Oh, wake island I miss you so, very much! EA and Dice really missed the great opportunity to make my personal favourite map "Guadalcanal" for the BFV game.
I still go into the tutorial from time to time just to run around for a bit on Wake Island. It was my favourite map in BF1943. Now, while Wake Island was my favourite, I do think that Guadalcanal perhaps was a better map as far as getting consistent gameplay. Having all flags in the middle meant that you rarely had to go far to get into the action. On Wake Island you could sometimes end up having to spend a lot of time going from one tail of the island to the other to hunt for action. But man, when Wake Island worked, it really worked. So much fun.
Even though it doesn’t seem to resemble it much at all… I believe “Solomon Islands” map in BFV is the remake of the “Guadalcanal” map from 1943. It’s not even close to the same terrain though imo 🤷♂️
Finally! I must admit the game hasn't really clicked for me, but playing with you was a lot of fun! How have your matches been lately? Have you been able to beat your record of 45 kills?
@@LeotseilGaming yes I enjoyed it too, despite disconnecting a couple of times. I haven’t played much lately. I agree it never really clicked for me either.. I cannot stay alive long enough to get many kills. I know it is sad, but I still long for 1943’s gameplay simplicity, it can’t be replaced
@@scottbentley1840it'll always remain my go to online shooting game of choice. Simplistic gameplay. You could just pick up and play. This was a fun match to watch. I hope you squad up again. 😁
Nice! Did you play in the scheduled community matches? For me, the schedule is a bit in practical because of different time zones. I go in once in a while to see if there are players playing, but I find it a bit hard to find others playing it outside the community matches.
