Research is vital to high quality health and care. Without it, we would not be able to tackle the complex health and care challenges of the future that affect the lives of millions of people. Research enables us to translate discoveries into improved treatments and services. These videos tell the story of the vital work that NIHR funds, enables and delivers and the world class scientists who lead that research. As a nation, we also owe a debt of thanks to the hundreds of thousands of volunteers who have played their part in improving the relevance, quality and impact of our research.

At the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) we fund, enable and deliver world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing, and promotes economic growth.

Talk about lucky. It couldn't have happened at a more convenient time for him. My wife had breast cancer while I was having bowel cancer and hers was caught by a routine mammogram. it turned out that she had a 15 to 20 mm disc of cancer which grew to a 40 mm disc in a matter of weeks. Her consultant said that he was glad he got her in that months rotation of operations as next month would have been too late.

Waoooooo she made me cry😢😢😢! This is exactly how I feel and what I have been getting from doctors. I have even consulted several psychics to ask when will I get well. I can’t emagine I will live through my 40s in pain. I have so many goals that I want to fulfill. I hated when people tell me that they are glad that I am OK. When I am not!!!! Getting out of bed is a huge struggle. My body weighs on me. Sometimes I wish I didn’t exist anymore. I cru everyday.

I think the worst part of all this is being alone, my family look at me like I’m completely healthy because I lay there and watch tv, what else can I do, severe pain and respiratory failure and I can barely walk. I just don’t understand why I’m treated like crap, I’m still the same person before 2019 when I had Bronchoscopy biopsy. I’m getting worse and there’s no one to tell but the doctors. My wife just ignores me and my kids don’t pay me any attention and I only go to the doctor because it’s like 1,300.00 for a lift on our car for the power chair, it’s like over a hundred pounds so I just go to the doctor and never ever anywhere else, wrecked my power chair in April so now I can’t use my left arm so I can’t push myself in a wheelchair now and that makes me so sick because the people, family that really doesn’t want to go has to now push me all the way in to the doctors office 😔 I can walk some just not very far. So sorry for going on but I don’t have any one to talk to. God Bless

I must say this is a commendable move by the NIHR. This approach will foster relationship between communities in the council and help the leaders to better know and understand the needs of the people they are leading. I'm super pumped about this.

i know that this video is 10 years old now and i’m not sure how many people will see this but i wanted to say that if any young people who struggle with chronic pain or illness wanted to be friends, i’d absolutely love that. i’m 18 and i live in the uk, diagnosed with fibromyalgia at 15, and i know it’s debilitating and unbearably lonely (developing agoraphobia hasn’t helped either obviously!) but maybe things would be just that little bit easier if we had people like us we could reach out to? just a thought, as i said i’m really not sure if anybody will see this haha but still worth a try i think :-)

Thank you so much for this video! After 16 years of living with chronic pelvic pain, severe back pain, nerve pain and so on i finally found a doctor who diagnosed me with symptomatic Tarlov cysts. After 18 years they also found out i have small fibre neuropathy. Most doctors have never heard of these ilnessess and some still think it is not a big deal. I also have a lot of pain every day and every night. Doctors don't always know the cause of someone's pain but it is definitely not ok if they tell patiënts that it is psychological when they don't know the cause. Gaslighting causes severe damage on top of the physical pain. A video like this is very important to make people understand. Have courage ❤

I have chronic back pain as well! I lost body muscle, I lost strength, and I felt weak. I started getting back into exercising little by little. Push-ups, jumping Jack's and sit-ups is how i first started. Even though I exercise, I still feel pain, and I still feel limited. I started using resistance bands for arm workouts and body workouts. I am working on fully recovering from this back injury I am facing. I feel like my body wants to get better, but the days when i stop exercising are the days i feel pain the worse. It's only the days i work out that i dont really notice the pain. I figured that working out would lessen the pain. Im confident that continuing to exercise without wight lifting will fully heal me within a few months. I want to be the hope to all those who are going through this same situation! With the right diet and workouts and a positive mentality is what's going to keep me going! Don't give up, and stay strong, you can make it through!!!❤

@utwerps I've seen miracles, my friend. Dr's told a guy he will never walk again after a major accident. After years of practice and overwhelming training he began to walk and then soon or later he started running again. It wasn't perfect form but slowly he progressed. So with that I just want to tell you my friend " life is about never give up in life, no matter how hard the circumstances are. Take life as it gives it to you and make the best and most of it. If your hurting don't just lay around and think that's it. Move your body keep your blood flowing and moving. Strech and keep your body healthy and that is just half the struggle. Other half is your mental strength, fight through the pain, fight for your life, fight mentally and do it." Hope this helps understanding what I had to go through. Oh and I'm healed now my friend.

Thank you so much for this! I've been struggling with chronic pain for 21 years now. I'm having a particularly rough week due to weather, a mistake with a med refill, and waiting on approval for my infusion due to an insurance change (USA problems). Everything struck a chord with me, and while I wouldn't wish this on anyone, the small comfort of the reminder that I am not alone really does help. It's crazy that I feel more seen and heard watching a video than I do by my actual health professionals. Thank you. To all that helped with this video, and those reading this comment, I hope you have more good days than bad!
