Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans+ History Month UK takes place every year in February. It is a product of Schools OUT UK, an education charity that began life as The Gay Teachers Association in 1974.

History Month celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT+ community. We are committed to celebrate its diversity and that of the society as a whole. We encourage everyone to see diversity and cultural pluralism as the positive forces that they are and endeavour to reflect this in all we do.

Please bear in mind that while we have tried to use professionals to record our work where finances and staff numbers permitted, much has been recorded by untrained volunteers on old equipment. Picture and sound quality will vary considerably. We existed previously on RU-vid as LGBTHMUK (to differentiate ourselves from History Month USA). The link to the previous channel is below. Others videos we included previously from other sources may still be found there.

Didn't realise the BBC had done this.. the rising broadcast of lgbt issues in sport is so late but better than never.. proper fines for homophobic chanting... some out players but on its own won't be enough.. We need more support for the women's game across the lower levels... and proper care for the players. but FIFA wannt more and more games for the money, until the players break. There are such wonderful women out there on the pitch and many stories of fighting homophobia waiting to be heard.

There are lots of women you could have used to talk about a lesbian football player but you had to choose a man. Lily and all women are adult human females #savewomenssports

Lily Parr was a FEMALE lesbian. The theme for 2021 was 'Body, Mind, Spirit'. The Gay Face was LGSM leader Mark Ashton. The Trans Face was Buddhist Michael Dillon and the + Face was intersex Olympic athlete Mark Weston. You should read the website better - or to start with.

As strong advocate of female football and female emancipation, I was fortunate to read Gail Newsham's (I was proud to meet her in 2005) In a "League of Their Own" documenting Dick kerr/Preston Ladies hidden history. When I read the book in 1997, it filled me with a manifold of emotions ... pride anger and sorrow ... each time I see the raising of women's football history all those emotions come back to me!.

I think its Great that more and more people are getting to know about the female pioneers of female football, plus the Iconic Lilly Parr who came from St Helens. When she died in 1978 (I was 13 then) I had no idia of her then ... It was the mid 1990s when I was very fortunate find her legacy ... All Thanks to Gail Newsham!.

Lilly Parr was from St Helen's, she was 14 in 1917 from her emergence as a woman, she never hid her sexuality ... she was an open lesbian! Just think about that, an open working class lesbian in the 1920s. She was a strong skillfull woman footballer who lived openly with her partner up to 1978 when she left this physical world.

Doctor said the HIV virus does not have medical cure because the virus is capable of hiding within the human cells, it remains protected from your immune system. HIV isn't a special virus - your immune system has the tools to fight it back. But because it is able to lay dormant in protected cells, your immune system is unable to remove it from your body, But with strong reactive herbal medication is capable of getting rid of the virus gradually and totally free from your body without damaging any of your cells , natural herbs kills the virus totally not just reducing the out break. SORRY...i have to speak up here. Navratilova is the gay freedom icon here, not King. King is a feminist hero but has only recently publicly self identified as gay. Martina has been in the trenches since her early fame when all the powers that be on the tour, including BJK, were advising her to tone it down due to the possible harm to the tour. Navratilova is the LGBT heroine. Hands down.
@TheVerbalVolley
@TheVerbalVolley 3 года назад
Martina was forced out also. A NY Daily News reporter published the fact that she was "bi-sexual" in 1981. Martina was told by the reporter that the revelation would be strictly "off the record". She needed to do damage control. P.S.--BJK never advised her to "tone it down".
@MrYonexguy63
@MrYonexguy63 3 года назад
Well im sure id trust the accounts of people like rita mae brown AND bjk herself ( see 1982 autobiography ) but thanks. Even if forced out by the daily news, mn has always lived an out life. Shes unique and needs to be held above others...
@TheVerbalVolley
@TheVerbalVolley 3 года назад
You totally side stepped my point. Martina was FORCED out by the NY Daily News reporter, and had to practice damage control, on her personage in 1981. She was FORCED out of the closet. BJK never, ever, advised her to "tone it down". Please fully read my posts before responding. Also, Rita Mae Brown is hardly an unbiased reporter. She and Martina had an affair which went south, and Rita Mae actually tried to shoot Martina after one of their final arguments (hardly a witness of sound mind and body).
@TheVerbalVolley
@TheVerbalVolley 3 года назад
@@MrYonexguy63 Martina has not lived a FULL LIFE as an out woman. I wish people would read full posts before responding, because it would many keystrokes. Martina was FORCED OUT in 1981 because a NY Daily News reporter did her dirty, and decided to print parts of his interview with her (especially those regarding her sexuality) even though he promised that what she told him was "off the record". Martina had to practice damage control, and forced to address the issue of her sexuality. BJK NEVER told Martina to "'tone it down". That is pure fiction. Rita Mae Brown is hardly a credible witness to anything. She disliked BJK (perhaps she was spurned?), and had an affair with Martina that ended with her shooting a gun at Martina while Martina was trying to drive away from them during an argument.

@@TheVerbalVolley Have you EVER heard Martina speak- she talks about this in depth. She defected from a communist country in 1975 and it took her nearly 6 years to get her US Citizenship. She could have been barred from citizenship had she come out (in 1970s/early 80s homosexuality could disqualify you). When reporters asked her, she said point blank- I can't talk about that until I get my citizenship- planning to come out then- she came out to her parents in 1980 in anticipation of that. She got her citizenship in 7/81, but a few months before that- BJK was outed and sued for palimony by her ex girlfriend- Marilyn Barnett. The WTA told her that if she came out/created another scandal, the main tour sponsor, Avon, had told them they would pull their sponsorship. She was in a relationship with the deeply closeted Nancy Lieberman when she was outed, so she had to walk a fine line not to out Nancy. At the time, she did identify as bisexual because she had dated and had sexual relations with men in her teens. During the Judy Nelson relationship, she began to exclusively consider and refer to herself as a lesbian. FYI- both Judy and Rita Mae deny the shooting story. Nancy Lieberman told that one in her book- Martina didn't say it in hers (1985 publication, several years before Nancy's). Yes- Forced out- i.e. 'outed' but more than ready and willing to come out. Once out- she picked up the mantel and carried it ALONE for YEARS! BJK denied being gay in a Barbara Walters interview and didn't speak of it again for years.

I discovered 'I know why the caged bird sings' in high school, it was our final years reading issue. I went straight on to her follow up and was so inspired by her writing that I wrote to her and to my surprise I received a letter back. Unfortunately I have no idea what happened to it but have always felt touched that she chose to write back. I'm so glad that she's been nominated for this, such an incredible woman and deserves to be known by everyone for who she was and what she achieved!
