If you’re into outdoor sports check out my channel. I do quite a bit of salt and freshwater fishing primarily in Orange County, California. I’m into archery, trap / target shooting and will eventually get more into hunting.
Figured I tried asking you a question here; have you ever had to have your Hummingbird serviced? If so, where? Mine isn't turning on, I've troubleshot and nothing. Hummingbirds website shows I have to mail it to them in Alabama and it's going to be $250+
@@afernan5 Never had to have it serviced but it did fail to turn on a few months ago so I checked my wiring in the hull and found that the connector was corroded from sea water so I replaced it and that resolved the problem. Try inspecting all of your wiring and connectors. Hopefully it’ll be an easy fix for you
Hey man! we should go kayaking sometime together, went fishing in Newport yesterday right outside the harbor and caught 6 sheepshead all over 15 inches! Let me know if you’re free to go out sometime
Greed is what caused this disaster. Bluefin has been off our coast for about five years now, and it’s been all about quick profits-just turn and burn for the money. Let’s be real, the wooden-hulled Jig Strike had no business being out at Cortes in those conditions.
Hit something my ass god damn liarz cant believe they even sent this piece of shit to cortez bank. Fuking death trap. God damn half the mf bow is 20 yards down swell… all those customers who paid a $+500 to lose all there damn gear… sad pathetic and there aint shit to hit out in the middle of the open ocean.
Guessing the boat may have hit the remnants of Bishop Rock, which is right below the surface in that area. When I was in my teens way back in the early '60s i was on a 3 day trip out of Pacific Landing and Bishop Rock was about 8 feet tall as I remember. Apparently it has been under water totally for a while.
Cortez Bank is an island that hasn't quiet poked its head up. It's a world famous big wave surf spot that can hold up to 60ft surf and be perfect. It's a trip surfing out there because you're over a 100 miles out to sea and you can't see land at all. It holds an abundance of wildlife and has epic fishing. Lots of sharks as well so it's particularly sketchy when you're in the water.
Was the sinking of the Jig Strike at the Cortez Bank or Tanner Bank I’ve heard two different areas which one is correct ? thank God. Everyone is safe🐟🙏
Cortez bank buddy. I will try and get you the coordinates or the location of the sinking in relation to the proximity of Cortez bank, however I did hear rumor about a boat that went to dive on the wreck to retrieve lost tackle and gear. If this is true, I hope that the thieves boat sinks too!! It's nice to hear that everyone is safe and the captain was the last man off his boat... You're a legend!!
When did Lake Mission Viejo start stocking tilapia? Must be a new thing, fished and worked there as a kid in the 80's and early 90's never saw a tilapia.
Too bad about the sinking of Jig Strike, and great everyone was saved. My sailboat was docked near the sports fishing area in San Diego several years ago. I saw a lot of happy fishermen there.
Bunch of studs in that picture. Monsters. I went fishing a couple years ago, day and half trip. Landed one fish they said was about 80 pounds pretty early in the morning. Didn’t look that big to me. I was one and done. My body, especially my arms and shoulders can’t do it anymore. Remember my brother saying using a single speed reel didn’t help. My fish looks about the size of the guy just to the right of the G in landing, maybe smaller. Could not hold it off the deck for a picture. I’m done with tuna fishing. Just can’t do it. Fact is everything feels heavy now. Groceries are heavy. Interesting enough. Boat sank on our trip too. Decent size private sport boat. Too far for us to respond but many others did.
Not sure how this happened but two summers ago i was 80 miles off the coast of the OBX in North Carolina and came upon a 55' sport fishing charter boat that was sinking. The boat had hit a shipping container that was lost off a boat during rough seas. They're like landmines and you cant see them as they're floating just below the surface. We got waved down and the six of them got on board my boat along with probably $15-20k worth of fishing gear. Miracle we were just there in the vastness of the ocean. It took maybe 20 minutes total for the boat to disappear completely. Two hour ride back on my 39' center console but everyone made it home. I have video of the boat sinking thats still crazy to watch.
that is what i think happened my head speculation those containers are scarry the capt on the jigstrike is very exiranced as evident that everyone is currently home with their loved once when pat gets a new boat i will fish with him as he has proven that even when stuff hits the fan he will make sure everyone gets home that is thier number one job and it is rare when a tragedy like this happens that everyone gets home safe and sound
@@MTSportfishing absolutely the captain did his job and did it well. The shipping containers are devastating if you hit it. They are massive and have corners and edges that just rip boats open. They float just below the surface which is the worst part. Couldn't see it until I was maybe 40-50 feet from it and I was moving very slowly and had my eyes wide open for it. If you're in a sport boat like the Jig Strike you would never see it. No chance.
I owned one. Guy I sold it to ran it aground. Spent a week getting bashed. Only damage after all that was a bent propeller shaft!!! They are remarkedly strong!!!
I was on a friends boat a month ago on our way to channel islands back side and we kept almost nearly hitting gigantic Sunfish..we saw at least 10 that morning..Can a Sunfish sink your boat if you hit one ?
I saw a couple of helium tanks floating in the water last time I was out. Please don't toss them overboard. Great job by all the captains getting all involved home safe.
My name is Patrick, and I was the captain of the Jig Strike. All I can say right now is that while our sinking was tragic, everyone made it off the boat safely and no one was hurt. My thanks to the passengers and crew of the Legend for all the help and support.
I hear alot of BS about this, but what should matter is that all of you aboard the jig strike are SAFE bottom line, accidents happens all the time, GOD BLESS everyone who was involve in the rescue 🫡🙏
God bless everyone, and thanks captain for making sure everyone got to safety. Hopefully the fishing community can get together, and we can all help the affected anglers, and crew ♥️🙏🏻
@stunnermane5775 it's a risk you take, they should be thankful they have their life and thank the Legend there Is no guarantee any ship is coming back everytime they go out
Always something I worry about happening each time I take a trip. We can never forget how dangerous it can be out there. Stay safe and keep vigilant y’all!
There was a boat reck in that same area July end of the month there was warning on channel 16 maybe captain hit that or shipping container or rock. I’m sure there clarity was not so good to in the early morning add that to the boat speed so ya It Sank fast
Just curious, why do most the videos I see show people pulling their hoops at night? Are lobster mostly feeding around sunset? Can you get them in the morning? Really want to get into this now that I'm moving near the ocean again.
@@dustinbossmusic You won’t want to do that since crabs are active all day long and will likely devour all your bait before the lobster start feeding after sunset
