The lifter spring needs to ride flat on the receiver to the back of the feed mechanism and not on the feed mechanism itself. Otherwise there is way too much spring tension on the lifter to allow it to go low enough to allow a cartridge to feed. These older Marlins are puzzles to put back together correctly. This rifle was not reassembled correctly. It’s not hard to screw these up. First run through on mine I did the same thing and it took me the better part of an hour to figure it out. I knew the answer was not shaving steel though as it fed prior to my disassembly. Modifying parts is a last resort or preferably never when it comes to firearms.

I can see what might have been the problem...............5 years too late. At 8: 58 on this video, the spring near the screw should be back and down touching the bottom of the action. (where there appears to be a groove. (not riding up on the block with the screw.

This is a very useful video. I just bought two little glass oil lamps and I was wondering if I could use olive oil in them too. Surely it would be okay?

Use old worn out files instead of steel wool. 2 benefits. It etches your files grooves deeper and give them a second life and gives you a useful byproduct that you can use for staining. Also, If you make a tannic acid solution with acorns or tea you can soak rusted tools in it and it helps chelate the rust and convert it to a more stable black iron oxide without damaging the parent metal. The tea soak is a technique they use in museums to preserve ancient iron artifacts like arrowheads, so it's plenty safe for the tools in your garage.

‘Throw it on the fire and grab another one’. That doesn’t make any sense to me. You have a lit fire, supposedly, and you’re grabbing more matches. OK. Good luck with that.

Watching this, my theory is that with this style of lamp, the wick may be too long, and the oil has too far to travel. I've just started making simple olive oil lamps, using a coil of wire to hold a short wick that burns directly over the surface of the oil. I suspect that the proximity of the flame makes the oil a lot hotter, which helps it rise up the wick faster, and because it doesn't have so far to go, the flow is much better. The wick has lasted for hours so far without needing to be pulled up at all. The size of the flame is similar to that of a candle. Traditional olive oil lamps seem to have worked the same way, with a wick resting on the side of a pool of oil, very close to the surface.

I've done this!. I also made a bunch of canvas haversacks(shoulder/possibles bags) and coated them with the same stuff. Very durable and great for keeping items protected from inclimate weather.

Welshy I was put in Gamma Lids and a bunch of food grade buckets. I would beat the rings on with the side of my hammer head. Then one would not go on no matter how much I hit it. I took it the bathroom and used a hair dryer to warm it up and it went on easily. Try it on the next time you try to put a Gamma lid on a bucket. Joe

This is great as I have been wanting to make a pipe out of Burl Cherry, and antler, but could not figure out how to straighten the antler, and then bend it again. Does the antler run the risk of cracking? I am curious about that being a possibility. Thank you for sharing this.

I don't know why every video I watch about plaster of Paris people are mixing it with water or peanut butter and all they are doing is activating the plaster so it doesn't work well all you need to do is mix it with flour and oat meal or crackers or cereal crusted up so they eat it in powder from and it actites in the rats stomach

Just ran a test using "Spar Urethane" to seal Duck Canvas before I used Latex Paint to water proof canvas. Spar Urethane is clear, UV resistant, item darkens slightly, canvas remains flexible. Latex paint gives final color and using both, item is waterproof.

If you are tampering with the antler from how you found it in its natural state you are falsifying that antler. You might as well go buy yourself some art supplies and build yourself a monster set of 12 point antlers. !

Thank you so much. I've been making my own beeswax candles for decades, thanks to a severe asthma reaction to paraffin. I knew there HAD to be a way to use the lantern parts to make a mold, and now I'm ready to do the necessaries to put my lantern back into service. With beeswax at $22/KG where I buy it, there was no way I was paying $18 just for three candles. Now I don't have to!
