I wish he'd have lived long enough to meet JK Rowling and see the craze the Harry Potter books brought. Would have loved to hear his view on them and the phenomenon.
I love your positivity. But I actually believe the goal should be mind controlling the heart, that it's best to not be lead by our emotions but by our intellect. This is a teaching from Chabad Chassidus, from the book The Tanya. It's a very deep explanation of the mind ruling the heart.
If only he hadn't been a disgusting smoker, we'd have got a lot more books out of him! Look how much he aged in the last 5 years of his life, all because of 60 years of heavy cigarette smoking. He'd probably have lived to 100 and been a much better writer without those disgusting things!!
He was very much injured by the war and in a lot of pain all the time, which you can read in all biographies written about him. Knowing this and still write such brilliant books is extraordinary. I’m not a fan of cigarettes, but I can understand looking for ways to relax being in pain most of the time.
My 4 favorite books of his are The BFG, Danny the champion of the world, The Witches, and Charlie and the chocolate factory. Each one is nice and all 4 are excellent movies. The bfg, Danny the champion of the world, and James and the giant peach were made by Disney. But the witches, Charlie and the chocolate factory were made by Warner bros.
I love this interview. I first started reading Paul's stories in 1993 when Undone came out. Round The Twist had already come out on TV and his other books were already classics. It's great to see and hear from a young Paul, before the books I grew up reading, came out. The Gizmo series or Singenpoo or even his later short story collections.
