Alex - those Card Binders are too small. They look great, but you can't fit the base set in two of them and the second set won't fit in one of them, which is a bit of a fail. I have had the discussion with Gamegenic and suggested an extra 4 pages which would make it a perfect solution for me.
They are great to hold rares and uniques. The number of pages is just enough to hold all the rares of the set, plus 2 front and back pages of uniques. I think they're great for that purpose.
While printing new cards that counter feels bad cards or op cards in the game sounds good in theory, The designers already said sets two and three are already set in stone and cannot be changed. Which means if Robin Hood is a big detriment to the meta and the game it wouldn't be until set 4 until a card could be printed to bring him down a peg So in the meantime, maybe limiting him to one or two copies per deck could be a good alternative maybe

Very good tournaments in a good mood. I was a referee there and I would like to warmly say that the players were very friendly and correct. I have also seen players report to their opponents forgotten boost in their favor and miss plays (forgotten) to their disadvantage. This community of players is exemplary in fair play. I had smiles and a good atmosphere. This is the ALTERED spirit. 🥰 There were also families playing. Thanks for the retransmissions. Congratulations Ludottotter and Equinox for this tournament.
Love that I discovered ya'll and this podcast. I'm not a TCG player at heart, but Altered drew me in with its art, non-brawler play style, and emphasis on lore. I might never partake of OP due to a restrictive work schedule - plus I'm frankly not very competitive as a person - but kitchen table play and casual collection has been satisfying already. I'm hoping you'll have a lot to say outside of metas and competitive play in general.
Just to chime in about the release cadence - it makes me very happy. I simply cannot afford to buy multiple boxes in one go but with 4 months between sets I can see myself buying a lot at the start but actually buying more each month to, as Trickster mentioned, hunt for uniques, complete sets of rares, do trades etc. If the sets were out much faster I'd simply just play "budget" builds all the time which is what I ended up doing in magic because between new product, travelling, going to events, paying for prereleases etc. I didn't have the cash to really enhance my decks. RIP Transformers TCG, but that game had a similar cadence and I felt that not only was I able to play, I was able to collect and I had virtually all cards something I don't think is remotely achievable in most TCGs without getting 3 jobs and selling organs :D Question for the mailbag: Have you guys had any experience with limited formats in Altered? Drafting is always one of my favourite things in card games (I still am desperate for it in Marvel Snap) and I always found when introducing friends to games that it was a great way in, perhaps better than starter decks as there's a deck building aspect but "an even playing field" as collections don't matter.
That's how all of these CCGs and TCGs work. They release 3 to 4 sets a year. Magic the gathering was four sets a year, Star wars unlimited is three sets a year, Altered is three sets a year etc etc
I'm surprised you guys all mentioned how the game was so well received at launch since Alex is from Toronto, Trickster in the US and Kawa in the EU (UK?). I'm near Toronto as well but official launch was delayed until this weekend Oct 4 due to distribution issues. It's been extremely difficult drumming up support for Altered here and from I've heard the same for the US (except certain pockets/LGS that really advertise Altered - perhaps Trickster lives in one of those Altered pockets. I want to be positive for Altered and see it succeed but I think we really need to be truthful here and admit Altered official release wasn't that great outside of the EU.
The reason I love this TCG is because it is very balanced feeling. The deck building rules really lean into putting powerful cards in your deck, but with the limits, it really does set everyone on an equal footing. Really looking forward to playing this more and more!
Does anyone happen to know if there are any plans to print cards in SA? Maybe in portuguese? With import tax and the lower average income, importing cards comes up with a huge price.
It should be available everywhere on audio with the exception of Apple... its been submitted but it needs to be manually approved to be listed. Should be available soon!
My biggest hope is, that they make an own online client, not the BGA version. The browser idea with BGA feels not good at all, being in an own online universe, even with shop concept of seasonal passes etc. is heavily different. In small countrys like switzerland, even in Zurich, finding people is a full time job - online could solve it for the time it needs to grow the player base. Hope its on their list and they do not commit only on the BGA idea... exaltered was a community approach and feels way more good to play. Love the game, hope it does progress with a good digital identity.
Hi Alex!!!!!! loving Snap and this content!! How is this game compared to other TCGS related to... $$$$? im into lorcana and its kinda expensive :( playing 2 TCGS at the same time might be impossible for my pocket
Been having so much fun with Altered. We’ve pretty much been playing every night at my house and it’s actually gotten me a lot closer with my brother. And it never would have happened without Altered Academy, Altered Insights and all of your content, Alex. Just wanted to say thanks, man!
Another banger video Alex. We're all struggling with the pronunciations as Altered draws from so many different regions (which I love), only one you said which I am fairly certain was wrong was Aja (it's like Ah-jah) and Sakarabru you swap the a and b, but honestly, that feels more natural to me too. Finally got to play some paper Altered this Thursday just gone (at time of writing) and it was really nice. I only played with starter decks, my Axiom got rinsed by Bravos in the first game but I saw zero landmarks excluding the on I put in my initial mana pool. A time loss with Axiom to Ordis (the starter with some alterations) and a win for Yzmir against Lyra. Got a chance to open a prize pack (I forget the proper name) and got the alt are Subhash which is cool as he's a hero I want to play. Still pulled zero uniques though, going to have to get a box when I've got the pennies.
Absolutely love the Bravos card pool analysis! Your insights are top-notch and so helpful. I’m beyond excited to dive deeper into my deck using everything you shared. Keep up the amazing content! You’ve definitely got a fan here! 🙌✨
