Vault 1541 is a blog that launched on January 2, 2017 that is primarily about video games and toys with a strong -- but not exclusive -- focus on the '80s and '90s. The videos on this channel will have the same focus with a mix of toy content (primarily toys from the '80s) and video game content ('80s/'90s plus modern games). Coverage will focus on systems I own. My consoles include all Sega platforms, an Atari 2600, Intellivision, Commodore 64, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 4, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii, and I currently have access to a Xbox One.
The blog is located at www.vault1541.com and includes some original posts, though many of the posts are of early '90s video game magazine ad and article scans. Once in a while I will talk about a current game but I am aiming for a family friendly channel so I don't expect to post gameplay for any M-rated games. Thank you for checking out my channel!
I can't believe it, just today I remembered one just like it, that I had as a child, with the animation of Mickey Mouse and the Giant!!! Amazing!!! Thanks a lot!!!!
Very cool trip down memory lane. I bought this through our school's regular book ordering thing in the 2nd grade. Wouldn't you know it, my cousin, who never took care of anything he borrowed, took it out in to my yard and squirreled. He left it opened in the grass, and naturally it rained that evening ruining the book. These books were awesome, but they were super-fragile, and not good material to share with your idiot relatives.
I don't remember, but did they have movie theater plastic cups with film characters on them back in the early-mid 80s, or was that a late 80s-90s thing only? I have several from the late 80s & 90s but can't remember any from earlier.
It's possible there were He-Man glasses but you could also be thinking of the plastic cups Burger King had. I've got one of those which I will show in the next video I post, maybe later today.
You suck. Plant crops on the areas you have rebels on the east Coast of the left island. Rebels shouldn't appear until much later in the game. Invest in fishing boats for much of the beginning. Then build housing. It's early sim city.. don't buy rebels unless one-on-one. Spend most your time fishing. That's the secret. I've played countless hours with my cousins in the 80s. Crops crops crops.
I was born in 1987, but I remembered my parents picking me up the movie theater toy from a garage sale, probably around 1994 or so. I remember the only cartridge that worked was Mickey and the Giant. There was a Sesame Street cartridge that kind of worked? But not really. My kids were watching Mickey and the Giant on Disney+ yesterday and I had a visceral reaction to it and suddenly remembered watching that cartoon on a tiny screen with no sound and a light bulb (that got very hot iirc) in my darkened play room.
Was the Kenner line a bunch of action figures? Or were they they're own team discs that were made for the game. Am still hunting this game down online. I want to eventually make my own videos featuring this game. I call it a game, even though it's a toy. BUt it sounds so realistic for the time. There's even a football game made by the same company, using the same technoligy.
I just bought one from EBAY that works and 100% complete for a decent price but it has the exact same issues. I’m glad I found this video. I had to literally look up how to troubleshoot my working GI Joe Tyco Train-Set :) Thanks!
Unfortunately, I doubt Sega will ever make a console again. It's a different company now and I expect selling software on all platforms makes the most financial sense. About the only way a Sega-branded console would happen is if another corporation acquired Sega Sammy or just bought the Sega name.
dude this is awesome. im going down a nostalgia rabbit hole researching 90s star wars toys right now. ordered a couple shadow of the empire guys off ebay lol. debating on whether or not to snatch up a ceremonial outfit luke
I love this game, but yes, the box art could be deceiving. Of course, most of the box art from those days is like that; always more detailed and exciting than the actual gameplay.
Hello just came across this , not sure how but here we go, I do own a copy of the demo along with a copy of the full game itself. I haven’t played this game in years , thank you for sharing , fun fact for you , i hold the world record title for this game.
I remembered these a few days ago and mentioned the show to a tiktok retro tv show channel and he JUST shared the intro. And asked if he was #close enough !! HELL YES! I was 11 and this was the COOLEST TOY EVER! Playing against the TV show, so crazy! Great memories of this!
I was also curious about something. I forgot to add this in the comment I left before. DO to my complete lack of vision, if I was to ever get this game, I would have to get the cartridges labeled in braille. However, I'm curious as to, wouldn't that damage the cartridge, or render it unusable? Braille stickers aren't that big. They would just include the city names in annitials, e.g. ATL, CIN, HOU, STL, CLE, DET, etc. I assume the team numbers are listed on the back? Sorry to ask so many questions about this game. I'm just really fassinated. I saw this on youtube last Christmas, and I was hooked. They could've easily made more seasons with this via expansion packages. My aunt, whom saw this on ebay, said this toy was the size of a bedpan. The center hub where you decide how many players, who will play who, etc. looks like a computer. Inovative stuff for 1988.
The cartridges do have the team names and a number on the front sticker. There is room to put a label on the top. Maybe just put a number and then have a reference sheet that lists which teams are on each cartridge based on the number. As far as the size, it's about 15 inches long and the widest section is nine inches. I'd assume the retail price in 1988 was too much for most consumers and Parker Brothers probably took a loss which is why it didn't add more seasons. It must have still been paying for the MLB license since the Starting Lineup figures were made by Kenner for many more years. Both were part of the same company and then Hasbro acquired Kenner and Parker Brothers in 1991.
@@Vault1541 So I could put a label at the top of the cartridge and write down who's on each disc, along with their team numbers? I always try to keep the teams in alphabetical order based on leagues, devisions, and city names. Don't you have to take a peace of the console off just to put in a disc? Or do you take it off, put the disc in, then put it back on. I like how there's a running commentary track that plays calling the action. It kinda sounds a little like Lon Simmons. This voice is also in the football game that parkerbrothers made at this same time.
@@aaronreed5612 I don't see why not. There is a piece of plastic to pop off the system when inserting a cartridge. Only a small portion of the cartridge is pushed into the system and the rest is exposed, though the back of the cartridge is not visible when it is in use. You could place a label on the back if you don't need to access it when it's being used. The system piece (two pieces if you need both cartridge slots) that is removeable represents the stands when it is attached but it remains off when you are using a cartridge.
Love this! Am still looking for this game online. One of my relatives said she found it on ebay for, cheepest at 150 bucks. Still looking for it, though. I like how the AI thinks about what to do next. It's too bad there's not a full AI mode, where it makes coaching decisions as well. But, this is just as good. I'm guessing that, a fast pitch game means, one strike equals a strikeout, and 1 ball equals a walk? I"m also guessing that, if you have the game in coach mode, and, say, you have two different cartridges inserted, it'll pick 2 teams at random, just as it did with the 1 cartridge you used here?
In the fast pitch games the lights blink quickly so you need to react faster. I'm not sure if you can select teams in coach mode or not without starting a game up. You can interrupt the coach mode and make player substitutions during the game if you want to, the computer just won't do it on its own. The current eBay listings are on the high side, though looking at recent sales there were some in the $50 range and some more than $100. You never know, you might be able to get one for a reasonable price.
@@Vault1541 Right. I'm still looking. If I'm able to get this game, I'm deffinantly going to do videos on it, perhaps an unboxing. i have Baseball for Windows on my computer, which was something I discovered early last year on youtube. That game uses Ernie Harwell for the running commentary. Giving this game came out in the late 80s, the technoligy that was used to put it all together was amazing. I just hope the C batteries in this game last a while. It sounds like, if you have the game in coach mode, it just picks two teams at random. It doesn't sound like you can pick two teams, shut it off, switch it over to coach mode, then turn it back on again, and it pick the two teams you chose. I've watched all your videos on this game, but I just have a lot of questions about it, or am at least trying to understand it more. I mean, if I got this game in the mail, I'd want to know how to play it directly out of the box.
Well I guess that's what it was called then. I remember having that movie viewer thing and a few of those cartridges when I was a kid. All I remember is a Casper the Ghost one and some Mickey Mouse one with Pluto.
If those are actual and authinic parachutes, protect them! Most sets did NOT come with the chutes. They missed the production line and were not packed in the box. There was a voucher in the box so you could have them sent to you, but most kids never received them. Also, there should be little dumbell wheels in the tanks, but after 40 years, I would not mess with them. That plastic the vecihles are made of can become very brittle and crumble in your hands.
Yeah, the chutes are original. I got the item new as a kid and haven't touched it in about 40 years until making the video. Unfortunately, the tanks don't currently have any wheels, not sure if it didn't include them.
@@KitbashCollections Ah, I wasn't sure if I had lost them but some or all of them must not have ever had wheels. Based on the comment about many not having chutes, it seems Tyco was inconsistent with what was included or kept making changes.
I had this from back then. Kind of boring without two players I always wondered when Nerf stopped being a toy sports ball company and became an army recruitment company.
