The right they were protecting was their right of publicity. The west has a principle which is used to oppress the working class, and that premise is that "ignorance of the law is no excuse". Fun fact, I was raised holding my hand to my heart and required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, every day in public school and every school assembly since kindergarten. Assuming asians are Japanese. They told him they are Chinese and later on still refer to them as the Japanese film crew. He didn’t need to touch her flag (if he really did). He should have not backed away (in the way he did) when he was shouting. He gave him exactly what the chinese guy wanted.
Thirty years ago, most people from Taiwan would use the word “Chinese” to identify ourselves in the Western world. Now it’s behaviours like this we would only use the word “Taiwanese”. The two cultures are growing more apart as the years roll on- thanks to the CCP.
