This is extremely weird logic because digital can really do anything hardware can do (when it comes to mixing and stuff, not talking about actual instruments) as long as it’s properly modeled after the device and not just slapped together to “sound the same.”, which is where I think his criticism comes from. Yes there’s more to it than that, but I don’t need to be a professional to tell you that, unless you’re listening through audiophile headphones, nobody can actually tell the difference between digital and analogue because they’re both used in different circumstances regardless and it also kinda just doesn’t matter. (Yeah, we can tell, but normal people don’t give a shit) Regardless I use antiquated shit from like 2005 half the time to make my shit since it doesn’t take much knowledge to make old shit sound good enough. Not trying to dump and be an ass, but saying hardware is all around better 100% of the time is just not the vibe.
Sidechaining is a great method, but it can be done either with a dynamic eq or a compressor if you don't have Trackspacer. To get a similar effect, people have been sidechaining plugins like Soothe or Waves Silk lately.
There’s nothing like it. Does it justify the price? Subjective. If I didn’t get it as a gift, I would probably not buy it and always wish I had it. Can my mpc live 2 or maschine plus do everything it can and more? Yes. But does it have the immediacy, form factor and quick sampling ability? No. I love sampling on this thing.
