For EVERYONE With An Interest In Viking Age And Medieval Swords They MUST SEE Peter Johnsson's ''THE VIKING SWORD WHAT IT WAS AND WAS NOT'' This Video Should Go VIRAL !!! But Read The Newest Comments First, Comments From Which Peter Johnsson Has Run Like A FRIGHTENED RABBIT Rather Than Answer For Almost 2 Years Now.
This is a wonderful look at these swords, thank you! You've answered several questions I've had, being that I'm a relative beginner when it comes to longswords. Cheers!
I'm posting this on almost every review where an 18c is being reviewed. I HATE type 18c blades ... I don't care who makes em!! Albion, DSA, RK ... doesn't matter. Take a look at this same guy's video where he takes a huge chunk outa the blade simply by hitting a small piece or armor or sword (sorry ... can't remember exactly what he hit). Anybody ever wondered why there are so many examples of this type that exist in such pristine shape?? It's because the design was a fad ... a bad one!! Because in actual war this blade is next to useless!! It's too thin ... too wide ... and takes WAY TOO MUCH damage after just one collision. Therefore once REAL soldiers realized this they got one made and then they hung it over the mantle. Now today groups like the HEMA cutting crowd have rediscovered this travesty of a sword design and found WOW it cuts through tatami mats like a hot knife through butter ... and think it's the best sword design EVER!! For crying out loud even Cold Steel made one ... and ... guess what they called it? A COMPETITION CUTTER ... GO FIG!! The market has so distorted the importance of this design ... I'm so f@#king sick of it!! Alrighty ... off the soap box. Type 18c fanboys ... have at. Pray you never get into an actual fight.
Been really enjoying this rabbit hole been going on! First Mike edelson mentions Silver's true fight. Leads me to MEMAG (or their renamed group) then this video. Looking forward to trying out Corry and Mike's interpretation of Silver after my group restarts in January. Also have a Japanese sword background originally (Shinkendo/Toyama ryu). Really feel what you mean by the Japanese approach
Very Interesting !!! I Am Very Fortunate In Having Direct Access To Two Of The Very Best Private Collections Of Original Viking Age And Medieval Swords Here in The UK. And Have Written My First Book 'VIKINGS, SWORDS DRIPPING GOLD SILVER BLOOD'. Over The Years I Have Enjoyed 'HOLDING HISTORY IN MY HANDS' Mind You, I Was Curator Of Ethnographica At Whitby Museum For Some Years During Which I Catalogued Their Whole Collections ------- Something Which Had Never Been Done Before. Enough To Say, History And The Relics Of The Past, Are A WONDERMENT !!! So ------ It Is AWFUL ------------ To Find The Total Nonsense PREACHED By Peter Johnsson In His Lecture 'THE VIKING SWORD WHAT IT WAS AND WAS NOT' A Master Class Of WRONG INFORMATION AND PERSONAL FANTASIES !! Do Not Take My Word For It, SEE For Yourselves !!! But Do Not Forget To Read The Newest Comments !!! Comments From Which Peter Johnsson Has RUN LIKE A FRIGHTENED RABBIT Rather Than Give Answer. His Fright Speaks Volumes !!!
excellent video, really enjoyed the explanations for why to focus on certain aspects of the drills so that it's not 'just' test cutting for test cutting sake, but a useful part of overall training
Great video!! I am between a rock and a hard place on two of these: The Crécy and the Viceroy. On one hand, I love the simple design of the Crécy and how it's the cutting workhorse and well within my budget, but it's similar to a sword I already own: the Baron. On the other hand, the Viceroy is so different from other swords I own, and it looks like a fantastic cutter, but is nearly twice the cost of the Crécy.

Honestly I'd probably go with one of my various Big Sticks. My reasoning? Living tissue and bone is considerably softer than dead/dried bone.. so I'd rather smash the dead and save the sharp steel for the living ;)
To note: there are brands of rubber bands that are biodegradable*, such as Bounce Rubber Bands. I'm glad I was prompted to look into that - I tie each mat in five places with twine (I only every prepare a few mats at a time) because I hate the idea of leaving bits of rubber everywhere. I'm going to look into this option because repeatedly tying tight knots with twine can be a little rough on the hand. Thanks! *I'm not sure if that's 100% truly biodegradable based on the wording of this brands own product description: _"Bounce Rubber Bands® are proud to confirm that our products are created with a natural latex which is a renewable resource. This natural constitution gives the rubber bands biodegradable properties."_
Very welcome! It's just one of those things that's just simple enough that people (including myself!) make the mistake of just assuming it's common knowledge. And now - it can be!
I'm a novice but appreciate your videos. Retirement next year in Maine, hope I can find an instructor. I think It would be awesome to wielding them correctly, rather than just hold and have them on our walk. Any feedback on the Albion Knud ? Thank you
