Mom (Sunshine) and son (Captain) currently thru-hiking 2197 miles from Georgia to Maine, USA and daily vlogging it.
We are Jessica, Will, Avalon, and Largo, a family of modern-day explorers and documentarians! In 2014, we began our adventure to educate our children out in the world, bond deeper as a family, and meet people from different cultures. Our goal with this channel is to share what it “really” looks like to be a full-time travel family, help others take the plunge (worldtowning.com and worldtowningvoyages.com), and share the world (and its people) with those who cannot or do not want to travel.
We have traveled by foot (hiked Camino Frances for 44 days), by RV (Three years visiting every country in Europe), by backpack (Asia), by sea (France to Baja California), and much more for the last 10 years.
Subscribe, thumbs us, tell your friends, or binge-watch. All is good! We are so glad you are here!
The shower thing made me laugh 😂I’ve done a lot of day hikes but haven’t had time in my life to do multi day hikes . Going to change that soon . I’ve got to ask does it madder after sweating all day whether it’s two three or four. Enjoy the hike !
Appreciate hearing about your encounters on/off the trail. Sometimes things happen for a reason. ♥ You should barter for home cooked goods for being the AT Chat SP
Other hikers I have followed have had this issue of not being hungry as well when they hit the mountains… I wonder what it is ? You guys are EATING UP New Hampshire ❤❤❤❤.. love you both ! So proud of you ❤!
People are good. A reminder when that family picked you up. 🙂 When hitching you have to turn around and face the oncoming cars and put your thumb out. If you’re walking with your back to them they don’t know you want a ride.
What an adventurous day you had, and emotional. You made me tear up. You were meant to get off. You were meant to walk that street and meet that lovely family. It's strange how God, the world, the universe whatever you believe in, how it provides you what you need. You need to fill you bear cans, but you filled your soul too. Love, LOVE following you both. Thanks for letting me tag along. 😊
Love your hitchhiking story! We stayed in those cabins too and I think, judging from your approach to the cabin, that we stayed in that exact same one. Great little stopover before going up Mt. Washington! Also, to Captain, I was also a big-time “ fart-blazer” and my daughter would never hike behind me in the afternoon for some reason😂!All that crap food really messes with our insides.
Stop at Highland center Croford notch. it's on trail. I used to guide folks backcountry skiing out to Zealand which is open in the winter. There's some tele skiing near falls and if you stop and are really still Canadian Jays will land on your trecking poles looking to be fed very pretty.
lol!!! You guys are sooo funny!!! …it’s not like we won’t shower for two weeks, we’ll have an opportunity in 4 days. lol!!! I so enjoy following you guys! So you’ve changed your stance on stealth camping & showers - what else has changed?
So cool about the letter you are delivering. It would be called trail mail instead of snail mail. lol Yall are doing so great. I hope yall are not going to be effected by Helene. Prayers for yall
Awesome! It would be trail mail instead of snail mail. lol. Love yall so much! I just started watching your videos from the beginning and awwww Captain was so little!!
That lady who made the lasagna was me-TrailMagic! We were taking a zero and figured I’d put my time to good use. Glad the timing worked out perfectly, and that sharing a meal created an atmosphere of community!
hi captain, unrelated to the at trail , have you watched a youtube channel called flywithkay, i thought you might be of interest to you. many days left to do on the at trail ?
Curious if you've ever tried Lactaid tabs for managing the lactose/dairy intolerance? It helps me. Just found your channel, and I'm looking forward to the rest of your thru hike as well as catching up on past adventures. Happy trails to you both!
I was just telling a friend, seems like a year ago I had cheese drama with you both, Micky would have LOVED that cheese.. lolol.. You earned this day. <heart> Will, your music choices makes a person know hubby is always part of the adventure.
So through some research I found out that there is a hostile right before the 100 mile wilderness that for $50 a person you can put food in a 5 gal bucket and have it delivered half way through the 100 miles
Jessica, I just left my grandkids this morning and my sweet as pie 5 year old who is in Kindergarten told me last night that the word they learned in school was empathy and she said Grandma do you know what that is? I said yes and she proceeded to tell me it is when her heart and my heart are the same with feelings....so smart and sweet and then proceeded to ask for snacks from my Airstream....she is your doppelganger I think. LOL I could on for days about her.
A few years ago, I watched a small group of women called "The Wander Women" hike the AT. They reached a disgusting, dirty, hot, hungry, tired, sleepy, miserable state, not fit for polite society, and one of them decided they reminded her of feral cats. And then they fell into an epic laugh fest. They couldn't stop laughing! I still think of that scene, and it always makes me laugh remembering it. You reminded me of it when you said y'all were dirty and disgusting!
Wasn’t that the most awesome day! My favorite day on our thru-hike was Franconia Ridge, that and the day we climbed Katahdin! Looks like you guys had great weather and an all around epic day, except for Mr. Mouse!🐭😂
U still making do without a tarp under the tent ? Happy to see you guys plugging at it !, YES🙌🙌🙌😘. Princess you seem to be energized by the climbing?! Good for you ! Who has the knotty fingers ? ( as an RA victim I notice these things )
I am definitely NOT a mountain hiker -- but if there's a mountain in the way of my pilgrimage, well I go up and then I go down. And it is so amazingly glorious when you do get up on top !! Just give me a choice between valley and mount, it will always be down and not up. Mountain mouse ? hmmm -- field mice are cute, but they hide and are hard to see.
Absolutely magical views when the mysterious fog burned off. Stay safe - I'm glad y'all are days in advance of when this is posted. Helene has been wicked.😢 Hugz from Texas Sharri PS - Will's choice of music is great!!❤
Thank you so much for answering my question for me, very helpful. Btw, you and your mom look so much alike. The strawberry story rings a bell with me. As a kid, I had everything strawberry. My Uncle Roy used to call me strawberry and would buy me gifts, always strawberry related.
It was so great to see your parents again you have very good parents, but I don’t know. I don’t have to tell you that also thank you so much for reading my comment. Good luck and stay safe. I care about you guys from Diane.😊😊😊❤
I am very happy to follow you through your different journeys you have shared with us. “It is not a mom/son blog! Your journey and determination say so much more about life than what a few words can describe. You encourage and inspire me in so many ways. I can not thank you enough for what you represent to me and I am sure the world 🌎. Thank you 🙏 🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️😊😊😊
I hope y'all are safe off trail today. The south part of the trail was changed forever last night. I"m not sure how things are gonna work out for those of us hiking next year. It'll be interesting.
Freeway advisory signs asked motorists to stay off ALL roads in western North Carolina. Helene was a Cat 4 and moving fast for a hurricane, and everything at altitude 150 miles east of the eyepath got a monster.
Where is Captain going to learn to fly? My husband is a flight instructor in a 1946 Aeronca Champ-tail wheel specialist and has been flying for 50 years. Love your videos!
