Police are stationed all around the Geisha districts of Kyoto. Technically, the Maikos (apprentices) are not allowed personal cellphones.. But then again it is 2022... Photographers have been a nuisance because the geishas always seem to be in a hurry to get to their appointments. But what they really hate is when the tourists try ":touchy feely"; their costume , hair etc. Its strictly look only. It has become more common for them to take taxis to their appointments. We will see what happens as Japan SLOWLY reopens to mass tourism.
@@Frank-mm2yp Thanks for the information! Sad about the ugly tourists ruining the maiko spotting. The maiko and geisha are so beautiful and graceful that even just to see them in public is an exquisite delight. (For me, that's just videos. I can only imagine what it would be like to see it in person.)
The "blankets" are belts or sashes called OBI. They are tied on so as to hold the kimono together (no pins ,zippers or buttons). This traditional Japanese costume comes in different fabrics, lengths, colors and weights for different occasions and seasons and by both males and females,. The MAIKO (apprentice) wears a long OBI almost down to the floor'. The GEIKO (professional geisha) wears a shorter OBI. Wearing a geisha kimono is quite complicated. So much so that they often need a professional dresser to help them put it on properly.
@@Frank-mm2yp It's too much for just tightening clothes. as you said they can't even wear them alone. there should be some good reason. if it's not for practical use such as pillows or blankets, it might be for a role like armor or a role that hides weapon. although it's not suitable for those gorgeous.
