Disappointing the Czechs lost all their steam in the second half, plenty of opportunities for plays, but nothing to show for it in striking distance. Very good defence in the first half however.
I find it curious when Australian fans and pundits dump on the Mathildas. You have, from an outsider's perspective, the fastest growing team, fan base, corporate support, and media attention. This has been an amazing year for you, Full Stop. Yes, one can question the tactics behind this match, and fatigue may have had something to do with the 1-0 loss a few days after this one in Vancouver. But also remember, Canada is a very high-calibre team. In spite of a terrible fight with their own federation, disrespect, threats, and the feeling of abandonment, the Canucks are a very fine team,...actually current Olympic champs. While their worst defeat to Australia in recent time was of MOST importance, The Canucks hold a 5-1 record against Australia in the last six played. The Mathilda's are one of my favourite teams to cheer for, but a tad bit more respect for Team Canada should be a part of your conversation when reflecting upon these recent matches. Let's keep the women's game growing, and a positive space for people to excel.
