Silent Soviet science fiction movie, years after sound films were produced in the West. This was the same year as the great British science fiction film THINGS TO COME and Charlie Chaplin's MODERN TIMES. The film's lack of recorded dialogue is made up for with a dominant noisy music and sound effects track. Interesting futuristic sets like Fritz Lang's DIE FRAU EM MOND (THE WOMAN IN THE MOON) (1928) and THINGS TO COME. The story takes place 10 years in the future, in 1946. They didn't count on World War 2 to come between those years.
A Russian version of Harold Lloyd? I got a kick 32 minutes in when they played an excerpt of "Pictures at an Exhibition". (I wish this had English subtitles.)

Incredibly intense masterpiece of the 1918 Russian style! wonderful players and use of light. I do like the elliptic style of the intertittles. One thing should said: in this copy everything goes too fast (wrong speed transfer, whish is quite usual in not restored copies or in bad restored decades ago ones), even more than usual when this happens. I recomend to watch it at 0'75 (in fact I watched it at 0'70 and the experience has been truly immersive). Then it will appreciate the great work of the whole cast, even if the copy isn't in the best condition. The piano player did a sensitive job though.
If you read/listen to/ watch J.Stalin you will find he approved every word and frame of every movie made in his time. Just like Gram, nothing got by him.
I know you guys uploaded this a long time ago, but thee subtitles have some delay, about 5 seconds and it is pretty caothic during the scenes when more than one character speaks at the same time.
My grandfather was 19 or 20 years old, when President Wilson sent these men over to fight in Russia’s revolutionary war. They were the 85th Division: 339th Infantry Regiment, the 1st Battalion of 310th Engineers, and the 337th Ambulance & Hospital Companies, as well as the Provisional Companies: 167th Transportation Company (Operations) and 168th Transportation Company (Maintenance). There were also 510 men transferred as replacements who were from the 328th MG Battalion, 329th MG Battalion, 330th MG Battalion, 338th Infantry, 337th Infantry and the 340th Infantry. Those men literally starved & froze, they fought hand to hand combat, very bloody battles! He came back from that war, married my grandmother they had seven children and my grandfather was a mess 💔 she kicked him out he died an alcoholic in a home for disabled vets. It’s so sad it took decades to figure out what his problem was, now we understand, it was from that war, brutal bloody war.
