@frankydman I believe there is one ina lagoon underwater some where in the pacfic. I think the U.S. Navy is -NOT- allowing anyone to recover it. Very very sad !
Yup, agree with "toney" That is a T28 trojan. But Toney is wrong on one point. It's not Airforce. Nave had their own versions. They had incredible climb. Better than the P51. Upto a certain altitude. But by then it would be so far ahead of the mustang that it made the difference. However this is only a trainer. NOT the douglas
It is highly unlikely that this is a Douglas TBD Devastator, because: only 130 were built, and all but a few were lost in combat. After the war, because of their obsolecence, the Navy scrapped the Devastators that werent lost in combat. Its not the right color scheme. Pre-war, they were orange, silver and yellow, and mid-war they were dark blue
All torpedo bombers were obsolete. The idea of flying low and slow on a straight line toward target was a death sentence. Even later in war TBF/M resorted to carrying bombs and that was in environment of air superiority. Imagine US pilots flying the Brit Swordfish and the massacre that that would have created.
