So great to see Ross Andrews’ and Brian Pentony’s masterpiece for the OGFDC being played worldwide. This piece, along with Kevin Murray’s “Ditty”, are right up there with Three Camps and Crazy Army as the most famous rudimental pieces globally. Nicely done!
Beautiful playing, and very well balanced! Question: I'm hearing a rhythmic "click" on the accented notes, what could this be? (...also heard on your "Crazy Army" video.) Possibly a recording issue?
Played this several times in performance over 50 years ago. The Downfall of Paris has traditionally been considered the epitome of the rudimental drummer’s art, and this performance is as close to flawless as I’ve ever heard it done. My chops are gone, but my ear is still pretty good, and those 5 snares were simply remarkable in how clean they were. Sounded like a single drum. No disrespect to the fife and bass players, who were also superb, but I know well how hard that piece is for a drum line to play cleanly with lower-tension snare drums like we played in the 60s, and it just doesn’t get better than this. Bravo!
I was going to say. I’m always surrounded by modern stuff, but hearing this is so refreshing. I never thought I’d hear traditional 15 stroke rolls (starting them on the “and”) played so well on these drums
