Came here a couple times as a kid in the 90’s. I loved this place. I remember catching my first fish here, hearing “Brown Eyed Girl” and “Red Red Wine” for the fist time in the hall. Watching “Fivel Goes West” for the first time. I remember the pinball machine they had and the in-table Packman. I remember watching my first magic show here and a guy with exotic animals came by and I got to see a bowa constrictor and a tiger cub up close. I remember swimming in the pool that had a high arched bridge, the Astro turfed decks, eating soo much candy and relaxing in the muskkoka chairs at night looking at the stars. I’m sad to see it being torn down. I actually came looking for information on it to hopefully take my kids here now that I’m an adult and capture that bit of nostalgia but it looks like it’s never going to happen. 😢
Hi David - those sound like great memories! They haven’t begun the demolition yet, so you can still drive or boat by for a look if you’d like. They aren’t letting people on the property, though! Would you mind if I shared your comment on our blog next time I post about Cleves? 😊
@@cottageinmuskoka absolutely you can! 😁 I wish I could go by but it’s actually quite a ways away for me to be able to casually drive or boat by. I do have a book about Cleveland’s house and its history that I bought when I was there 30 years ago so I’ll always have that as a keep sake to remind me. I went there for 2 summers with my parents who were there for OPSTF which is the Teachers Union and it is no understatement to say they were some of my most cherished memories of growing up.
Sometimes we have floods, sometimes not - there are a few factors to it. Amount of snow here and in Algonquin, temperatures (snow melt speed), etc. There’s a lot more info on our instagram @cottageinmuskoka if you’re interested. :)
