Hey Thad! Gros Bec in cajun french means "Big Beak" which is wat we call the Yellow Crested Night Heron. In this case it refers to the giant bowsprit and the boat color scheme is the same as the birds.
Awesome Ziggy! Really puts into perspective all the work that went into Her. I was blown away when I saw the first glimpse of Her under Her full sail plan. Gives Tally Ho a run for Her money!
when i was using GoPros that was easy. i have switched to DJI cameras now without the speedometer graphics. i do call it out now and then. it's a dbl edged sword though. to sailors cruising for hours at 8 mph sounds fast. to non sailors (most of my viewers) it sounds slow and boring.
hit 25ft waves for hours on end a few times in the old girl. still not as scary as a atorm in the windrider.. you gotta push yourself past your limits, or live life never really knowing where those limits are. thanks for the shout! you made my day. Zig
What an impressive achievement! As I watched the build process, I’m left so amazed by the incredible craftsmanship and skills displayed by all of the builders in this project.. A beautiful outcome resulting from loving effort! Bravo Zulu gentleman!
Love the shirt Ziggy and I know a crazy kayak fisherman named Steve loves that you are wearing it 🤣🤣🤣 good luck brother and I know you got bigger Cojones than me!!🤣🤣👍⛵️⛵️⛵️
It was his channel that encouraged me to creat this channel. So i buy my hats atc from him when i can. I edit my videos to be a mix of his and Trent Palmer's video styles. Thanks for the shout, Zig
@@ZiggyLavengood same here brother no joke 👍👍 I wish he would talk more about when he was in Africa and other places but hey that’s his choice lol but yeah he is a friggin legend! Just like ole Ziggy👊👍😃🎣🐟🐠🛶⛵️ I have several of those shirts and the famous Nakano green fishing hat 🤣👍 my favorite is the mullet one from several years back. Anyway thanks for sharing your adventures Ziggy we preciate ya brother 👊
Wow that is scary about Marcus. I am glad he was found safely, and hope his boat is okay. How snug of a fit are the ama's into their mounts? Do they wobble a little as you sail, or was what I thought I saw just the camera angle / affects?
They flex when you get going. I've bent them a little a cpl of times too. Once being pushed up on shore by high winds and once hitting a dock post. That's how they were designed . We were on the radio with the Coast Guard for a while searching for Marcus. The fisherman didn't think of notifying anyone he was found.
A lot of guys do it in even smaller boats. The event was originally meant for little home built boats that can sail in a few inches of watet. I agree. I don't know how they do it.
Ziggy, you mentioned someone named "Groebeck" or something similar. Can you confirm? I might have the same sailboat that he does, and I've never taken my out in 8 years, but next year, 2025, it'll happen, and if we have the same boat, I've got some questions for "Groebeck." Thanks!
it's a modified Welsford Sweet Pea. We spent a yr building it. I have a series on it. Buddy will be happy to answer any questions you may have. ru-vid.com/group/PL2uMpOSPer2E5qk7BqPEICF91KkBRimsC
Ziggy, thanks as always for taking us along for the ride! Can you explain one thing? It looks like most of the time you're out in open ocean waters. How much time are you in the ICW? Isn't the ICW only a 100' wide? Just curious, how much time you spend in the ICW for the Texas 200.
I spend most my time on the ICW or the big bays. We never go out in the Gulf but stay within the barrier islands and are often 8 or 10 miles offshore. You can't see land in the bigger bays. Good question. Thanks, Zig
If I was going to do this, I'd want to be in a Windrider 17. Very capable and well fit boats for these type events. I'm surprised you don't have the spinnaker. Really adds a lot to the boat.
Light air is usually not an issue here on the gulf coast. My last boat had 4 spinnakers And used the asymmetrical one a few times. Usually ended bad, hehe. But it was fast.
DAY-UM Ziggy! My heart goes out to you and all your friends and neighbors. Your footage here gives me flashbacks to 2004 when we had Charlie, Frances and Jeanne all pay us a visit in central Florida. Nope, no bastards going sailing in this one!
I am very glad to see that you are safe with only some property damage. We also went through the storm and the days without electric power. Backyard generators helped some for refrigeration, lights, fans and WiFi. As I suspected, my internet supplier has their own generators and all we had to do was supply local power to our WiFi box. Having a battery and an inverter for the WiFi really helped before I was able to start the small generator. Advance planning for a day without power for air conditioning was a mistake. One of our neighbors, with many contractors in the family, brought in a job site generator and connected it to their air conditioner circuit. They didn't even open their windows for days. With our open windows we could hear it all night.
After the 1st 12 hours without power i fired up our generator to run our freezer, fridge, tv and 1 lamp. It was quiet enough it couldn't be heard outside our yard. I was surprised how quiet the neighborhood was compared to Harvey when the Drone of generators was constant. When i went to the cabin i chose to not run the gen i brought with me as to not burden my neighbors with the noise as we all had our windows open to sleep in the 90 dgr heat. Watching everyone come together to clear downed trees and debris was inspiring. Glad it all worked out for you too.
The neighborhood is buzzing in Houston. Last week it was tree ppl dealing with the downed trees and this week the fence ppl replacing the privacy fences.
I'm glad to see you made it through with minimal damage know how you feel about 20 years ago Charlie took everything we had in Florida keeping everybody there in prayer hope to see you on the water soon
I kept wondering about You & The other sailors during the Hurricane Beryl time; But in all of your videos I didn't see any evidence of any of the hurricane's stormyness... Good to You for that!
I love the videos and I can feel your love of the sport. (Enough a$$kissing? lol) But honestly I like your vibe. Question. And if you covered it in another video please let me know. Why did you choose your boat and not something like a scamp exc?
When I bought the WR17 in February of 2017 I was living on my 34 ft C&C sailboat on the great lakes. I bought the WR as a toy to dock next to my bigger boat. As I had a cabin boat already I wanted something sportier. Do to a death in the family I found myself in Texas that spring to care for my mother, leaving the big boat behind and thus moving the WR up to #1. I never even had a chance to sail here up there. A small cabin boat would rock, but I don't know if after the WR's speed if it would bore me...
Gotta love it! Giving a helping hand. You can bet if you see me out there on a little sailing rig I'll have me a little outboard more than likely. Kick ass adventure series!
You got nuthin' to apologize for Ziggy! You made the prudent choice, and who cares if there's video of it or not. You've done the 200 enough times that you don't need to prove anything to anyone. Besides, you did pay it forward by helping all the others. Thanks again for taking us all along for the ride ...
Thanks Ziggy for braving all the storms on this year's Texas 200. You tought us, who haven't yet joined the run, how to do it. By the way, what size is that outboard? 25 or 2.5 horsepower? Cheers!
