I'm Judy, host of The Autumn Acorn Knits, a New Hampshire based podcast where we talk about all things, knitting, crocheting and natural yarn dyeing.
I have found life to be far simpler when we take it slow and enjoy the little things. After years of teaching and then discovering I was a Highly Sensitive Person, I shifted gears to work from home and grow my own fiber business, creating easy knitting and crochet patterns and naturally dyeing wool yarn by hand.
Now I'm hoping to share my patterns, hand-dyed skeins and little crafty secrets with other creative minds, introverts, & HSPs. It's my passion and privilege to create + contribute to the wonderful world of crafting. It's my mission to provide a relaxing outlet and genuine community where everyone feels tranquil and welcome. Welcome to The Autumn Acorn family!
p.s. If you dream of being a sock knitter but you're afraid of that finicky heel, I've written the "Magic Heel Sock" pattern, with 1000's of patterns sold thus far!
Finally watched! Did not disappoint 🎉 Everything is beautiful and I LOVE your new cardigan design!! I always love seeing you. It truly makes my day. Happy knitting my friend ❤
You're the best Kim always so supportive of me and my channel!!! Sending all the love back to you and looking forward to your next podcast, miss you!!💕💕💕
Congratulations on the new baby! So excited for you and your family! I enjoyed this episode so much, the yarn, the finished pieces, the projects you are working on. Looking forward to see more of your new sock design ❤
Thank you so much, Yessy! Elowen has brought so much joy to our family. She is such a blessing and I can't wait to travel to meet her. My nana heart is sad that they live so very far away but knowing how happy they are in HI brings me joy. Have a beautiful weekend, my friend! xoxo Judy
Hi Judy, another lovely episode! Congratulations on the beautiful new addition to your family :) I would love to apply to test knit your new sock pattern but I wouldn't be able to cast on for a couple of weeks as I'm going away. The texture looks so pretty! I am not much of a sock knitter and definitely prefer a vanilla sock but these look so cute! Thank you for chatting with me for a while 🥰Kathryn x x x
Hello Kathryn! So fun to find you here : ). I do agree that vanilla socks rule but every once in a great while, I try the textured socks. They take me forever but in the end, I am more proud of my more difficult creations. Oh well, I'll still continue to prefer vanilla!! I hope you have a fantastic vacation and that we get to see a glimpse of it when you podcast again. Happy Friday! xoxo Judy
Love your podcast, such beautiful garments. Looking forward to the next one!! Congrats on new granddaughter!!!!! your test knit cardigan is look beautiful already!
Morning judy🎉,,, Nice to catch up,,, Sweetest granddaughter 🎉🎉 Love all ur knits,,,,and sweet socks,,, Been a busy summer here,,,, Looking for cooler weather,,,,now,,, Take care,, Elaine 💗🏠
Good morning Elaine! I always look forward to your messages, thank you for always taking time for that, it does not go unnoticed!! Wishing you the sweetest autumn : ) xoxo Judy
Hi Judy - congratulations on the arrival of your new granddaughter. That rosebud cardigan you knit for her is adorable (and free is always nice too). I might just have to knit one. Looking forward to seeing you in Maine. If possible, please bring a skein of silky wool. I’d love to see it in person. Enjoy apple picking! 💕💕💕 Beverly
Hi Beverly!! It's so good to hear from you with all your sweet words!! Elowen has brought such joy to our family and we really needed it after a traumatic spring. I think you would really enjoy knitting the Rosebud and honestly, the designer is such a kind soul. I will definitely bring some Silky Wool with me to the retreat, it's such a unique yarn and is best appreciated in person. Talk soon, the retreat can't get here soon enough for me!
You are a love and a comfort to me, sweet friend!! I'll be sending you over the Apple Orchard Sock pattern this weekend so get ready for it!! Big hugs, Judy xoxo
Thank you so much Donna! I knit the second size, which is 36.75" finished chest circumference. I typically wear a size medium. I used a US 6 + US 5 needle. I do wish I'd gone up a needle size. I think it would have given me a bit more ease and drape. Good luck with yours and please share if you decide to knit one!!
Great to see you podcast again. And congratulations on your new granddaughter! I’ve finally got around to knitting your Sand Art Cardigan. The sleeves were fun and now trekking through the body! 😘
Hi Loraine and thank you for watching! It had been way too long and I am so happy to be back : ) I'm so happy to hear you're knitting the Sand Art Cardigan, I really love the fit on that one and yes, the sleeves are a blast (for a change, right? ).
@@TheAutumnAcornKnits yes and just started attaching them to body (took me a minute to fathom the logistics of it though - my brain wouldn’t compute 🙄). So I’m getting there. I’m a slow knitter!
Hello Judy! Congratulations on your new grand baby! The dress you knit for her is adorable! I would love to try to needle punch and I was wondering if you’d consider selling kits. The coasters you made are so cute and useful! Thank you for another lovely podcast! Take care my friend! 😊❤️
Hi Bobbi!! So lovely to see your message. I have thought about selling punch needle kits. I'm just working on finding the perfect suppliers. The coasters are so much fun and there are many other items you an make. I'm even working on wall hangings. It's fun and quite addictive too!! xoxo Judy
Hi Judy , do you think the silky wool feel anything like Barocco Remix? I am using remix light which is a DK but feels like a sport also and have heard from others the same. Went down a needle size to get gauge. Looks a little like it but can’t feel thru the screen lol. Love your new sock pattern.
I haven't worked with Berocco Remix but my friend, Marie has so I can ask her. It does sound like the two yarns are very similar though. Thank you for the love on my new sock pattern, that means a lot to me Judy!!
I feel about your "Caterpillar Cardi" the way you feel about the "Talula!" Cant wait to get my hands knitting your pattern: It's lovely Judy! Yeah Luv pink for any sweater, sock, shawl, ...☺️ Love your avocado-dyed yarn; so pretty! Sweet Baby Elowen...sigh...🥰❤️🧶
Awwww, that's so kind of you to say, Deborah!! I'm enjoying knitting on it so much that I want to ignore everything else, but alas, that is not the way it goes, is it? - LOL. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind words! I can feel the love : )
Beautiful projects! I have to use post it notes when I use charts. I wish I had time to test your new socks but I have a sweater test knit right now. I will make them when the pattern is released!
Thank you love!! The post it notes might have to come out soon - LOL. I've only read colorwork charts on a pullover and a hat so there were no purl rows. The purl rows had my head spinning at first, but it's easy once you get a rythym. We'll see how I do as I get into the more difficult sections. Finger crossed!!
Hi Judy! Congratulations on your new granddaughter, Elowen is so precious! All your makes are wonderful! Beautiful colors and designs you shared, thank you for the links too. Take care!
The socks are just darling! I can't wait for the pattern to be released. I had also forgotten about the shop update and was excited to see some pink. Of course I had to order. ◡̈
Thank you Dorothy! I'm having a ball making them and I stuck a flower pair in my car and they look cute and keep all that dirt and dust at bay. Thanks for watching!
Glad you enjoyed it Kathryn and thank you so much for watching, that means a lot to me!! Today will be spent catching up on some more of your lovely episodes. You give me great inspiration!💕 xoxo Judy
@@TheAutumnAcornKnits You are so sweet! Thank you :) I am looking forward to your next episode but in the mean time I#m diving into your back-catalogue :) Have a lovely week! x x x x
I loved that video Judy!!!.... Thank you.......❤...... Ps I love the natural colour transition of your hair.... You've been truly blessed with a beautiful colour, its stunning..... I'm in the same boat as you at the moment, although I'm not too sure if I'm going to have the same "brightness" of colour, but it's sure coming through!! Hello 60!! ❤ xx
Thank you lovely friend!! My hair has been quite a struggle for me and I barely look in the mirror any more. My mental age has definitely not caught up with my physical age - LOL. Anyway, I have a hair appointment coming up (it's been a long WHILE) and I think I'm going to cave and have her add some warmer highlights this time. Fingers crossed!
@TheAutumnAcornKnits Your hair is a very similar colour to mine except yours is wonderfully thicker than mine.... I still have the warm highlights, but I've had to start having them every 7 weeks! Because of the regrowth, I'm really thinking of embracing nature!!..... 🤔.... I still feel like 23 yrs old, but when I look in the mirror, I see my dear mum! .....lol🤭.... At least we're ( hopefully) still breathing Judy!!! Lol xx
❤❤ morning judy🎉🎉🎉 Loved that,,, All ur goodies,,, Sweet coasters,, I used to do that with rug hooking ir punch needle,,,,so fun,,, Take care, ELAINE 🏡💕
I can imagine rug hooked coasters must look very cool, especially with a finer wool. Thank you Elaine for always being supportive of me. You mean a lot to me!! p.s. I'll have a real knitting podcast coming out later this month.💕💕💕
As always your hand made items and wool are all stunning! It absolutely melted my heart to see you and hear your voice. I adore you. Sending so many good vibes your way. Good luck on your new ship goodies!! 💓
Your Ran is beautiful I am going to try that yarn. What size needles did you use. Thank you for answering my question love your video first time will subscribe ❤
How kind of you to stop by and to comment, you've made my day brighter!! I used a U.S. needle size 9. My apologies for the delay in answering, my notices were not coming through so I just saw it for the first time today. Have a peaceful weekend!💕
You are a doll and I appreciate you watching so very much!! I'll have to go back and watch to see what meal I had made. I can't seem to remember. The older I get, the more I forget! Have a peaceful weekend : )
Love the cute new socks. I would love testing for you all your patterns and because I have neuropathy on my feet I love to test the worsted weight magic heel sock 😊🎉
How kind Kris, I will start off by adding you to the Magic Heel House Socks test today. I'll add you to the IG group and email you the pattern. You're my person : )
