Just discovered the guy and absolutely love everything I've seen. Can't wait to perform some of this stuff for my GF while she silently sighs and considers what her life has become!
You guys are great. I love spending time with you via the sessions you let us peak in on. Every art has a few living virtuosos. During his lifetime, Ricky Jay was that for conjuring.
I believe that this was from a BBC documentary about Ricky Jay and his life. The segment where he tries to stiff the film crew with Harry Lorraine's old ten card poker scam is wonderful.
Yep. Definitely the Vernon load sequence, with the addition of the forth load. Very commonly used by many, including myself. I, too, have modified the false explanation.
Seeral years ago, I bought from a WalMart craft section, imitation "jewels". The "jewels" were halved, and each half had a sticky (inward)side, so that you'd adhere them together to form a complete "jewel". "Bling" My lady and I were at a TGIF Friday's restaurant in south Florida when I started to open the package when the female server stopped by, and she asked if she can have some. I said "no". We finished out meal, the server returned with the check, I told her that times have changed, that no longer do we have to wait millions of years for a diamond to form. I showed to her the clear celleophane from the package going into my closed fist, I clencehd my fist a couple of times, compressing the cellophane. Then I held my fist in front of her face and told her to "blow", and to her amazement, when I opened my fist there was not cellophane but a (bling) diamond. She HOWLED so loudly that I'm sure the entire restaurant heard her. She received the "diamond" with a tip. It was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I'm all for analysing and commenting on a performance......but in this instance, I've never heard so much boring, inane drivel in my lifetime. Were you just trying to kill the time? 🫣
These reviews are valuable helpful knowledge the best way to learn is from seasoned experienced magicians. Thanks to the guys for sharing this historical footage.
I need to know some timelines here...I've watched an evening st the tom foolery soo many times I degraded the vhs...not counting the times my friend watched it, that let me borrow it. I'm less than five minutes in and I'm hooked!
The comment about mixing mnemonica with Kauffman's book on berglas is on point but Berglas's ability to identify a "thought of" card from a spread is just a bridge too far for me
"This isn't a trick, it's not gonna fool ya!" I never met John personally but we had corresponded by eMail. Always polite, always ready to answer, and never talked down to me at all. He is missed.
Since matches are usually with a darker front side with a lighter backside, I could pull two matches out and do color changing routines with a paddle move.😊 You show them as they are initially, then show both sides dark or both sides White. one of each, change places. You get the idea.
His audio archive available is well worth the price as well. Interviews with legends sharing their life stories and you can listen to some performances and lectures which is a fascinating experience.
My the first thing I distinguished from other McDonald's aces is the fact that one of the cards disappears completely as opposed to changing to another card
I always perform a helicopter spin as a convincer when I execute a double lift. Also I try to avoid repeating the same sleight twice in any routine as Dai Vernon pointed out.
