Do you ever think to oil and grease your planer, and repair/stop the rust?
@ihredryan

It gets oiled thoroughly before each use - doing a complete restoration isn’t planned as of right now but it’s kept indoors when not in use

That's very cool. Thanks for sharing. You got some nice boards and the two main outputs of a wood shop - chips and noise! With the money that you saved, please buy a nice pair of safety goggles! Maybe even some hearing protection. (From an Aussie with hearing damage.) : )

my great uncle back in the early 60s had a H model tractor . He still used it even after he was using a walker too.

Love the dust collection system! You have to stand right in front of the flying chips to remove the board from the outfeed side. Still, really cool. I remember as a kid in the 60s my dad taking some logs out of our woods over to a guy that had a circular saw-mill powered from a steam tractor using a flat belt.

Hey man, just got the same problem here, where’ve you ordered the parts from? I’m from Australia and I couldn’t find the right parts, can I have the brand of the parts as well? Thanks
@ihredryan
@ihredryan 3 месяца назад
At the time I got mine right from the CaseIH dealer , that was mistake a though , way overpriced. I have resources now to cross reference the IH part number to bearing manufacturer numbers - I’d be happy to help you out, is it a 300 Utility you’re working on? And if so does it have an adjustable width front axle ? According to my parts catalog, different bearings were used on the adjustable tread front axle vs. The heavy duty fixed tread.
@chaofang-lw1qw

@@ihredryan it is a aw7 model with very similar design like yours, I have the bearing sizes that I can order in from store but the cup is damaged and I’m bit confused where to get them(as in your video it’s come in kits) where the store here sale is separate, also the seels is unknown parts to get as well Big thanks legend!!

@@chaofang-lw1qw wow very cool - I have never seen one of those models in person , I don’t think any made it over here to Canada. Do you have the IH part numbers for the bearing and seals ? I can cross reference them for you and we can go from there

@@ihredryan I just rewatched the video and I can confirm it’s 99% identical shaft as mine, I’d assume they using the same bearing(from identical bearing and gaskets) the bearing number I got from store are Timken 2878 (made in Australia) Imperial 1.375 inch Inside bearing is 1.6879 inch

@@chaofang-lw1qw I bought the bearings in a set right from the dealership. Nowadays i prefer to look for new old stock on Ebay, generally quite a bit cheaper and you can't beat vintage timken!

That is a great video What kind of head was on the first combine
@ihredryan
@ihredryan 3 месяца назад
That's a stripper header made by Shelbourne. They only remove the head off the plant and leave full height stubble - supposed to help with wind erosion etc. If you don't want the straw, may as well save the combine some work and leave it standing !

Not true on the point of the oil and on a hill. I own one from new in 1985. I currently have it on the bench replacing gaskets. Has an oil pump that’s around 5 psi and the sump is on left side in the very bottom of engine case. On the side the dip stick is on there is an oil galley plug to hook a pressure gauge to.

@maplebones

I have a very similar 24' square head planer made by Humphrey in New Hampshire around 1860. It's belted to a 1950 IHC W4. I use it all the time and it does a great job. It's fed the lumber that comes off a 1910 54" saw running off the same tractor. I paid $150 for the planer, $600 for the tractor and $700 for the saw about 25 years ago. It didn't take long to pay them off.

Being from 83, that should be an MTD built model. If the serial tag says Cub Cadet, then it's an MTD. They bout Cub from International around 1981 I believe and continued to make the red cubs for a few years before changing them to yellow and white. Maybe not quite as good as an International built cub, but still a fine machine better than almost anything made today.

My dad restored a 1948 Super M and when you started it, it ran on gas and when warmed up……..I kid you not you pulled a lever and it would cough and would switch to diesel!! One side of the block had a carburetor and the other a diesel pump. Wide front axle and I believe a rare tractor these days. I wish we still had it!
