Absolutely Amazing!!! This man and his music bring tears to my eyes specially after seeing the movie Shine and realising the hard life he had, but most important he overcame that and dedicated his life to Music and here we are enjoying this amazing piece of music played by an incredible man!!!
C'est tellement bien d'avoir ramener David Helfgott sur scène en concert sur cette composition. C'est à pleurer franchement, Qd tu as vu le film itou....🙏 Bel ouvrage
Soulless, lousy, mediocre work. A literally example of how a great piece could be played so dead and boring. It would be more enjoyable if I listen to it from the midi file.
Muddy, directionless playing. Astonishing the way people fall over themselves to be the first to say how wonderful he is. He's not regarded as being at the level of a decent student pianist by anybody worth listening to. There are so many versions of this played properly without the player mumbling gibberish over the top. Very, very average.
Yup, exactly; some hidden talent there but it's like someone who never got the appropriate training, and never learned how to carry a melodic line forward so it sounds like a rubble of molten notes a lot of the time + the awful vocalizations which just are NOT acceptable. At times they totally overpower the actual piano.
IT FILLS MY HEART WITH LOVE THAT DAVI FOUND GILLIAN AND THAT SHE HEALED DAVID TO RETURN TO THE WORLD STAGE WHERE HE BELONGS...AND WHAT A MASTER PIANIST HE IS. WITH CONDOLENCE FOR GILLIANS PASSING LAST YEAR IN 2022 AND DAVID'S HEALING... HE IS PLAYING IN CONCERTS IN AUSTRALIA AND GERMANY THIS YEAR..2023....A BLESSING ALWAYS.
Just noticed his pedaling in the theme statements (through about 3:00) David is lifting the entire foot, heel and all. Now that is investment in the spirit of music. Full abandon to the joie dans la musique is a rare delight! i'm grateful to have the visual perspective of an orchestra member performing with David.
How people try to comfort David only because they saw the film………. That is the kind of „empathy“ ordinary people can have….they need films that tell them exactly what to feel. Disgusting. 500.000 Helfgotts can exist and they care shit about it, unless someone makes a film about them. 40 Titanics can sink….but they care only about Kate and Leonardo…. One can only throw up for weeks non stop.
How ignorant, all people comenting….. They feel anything Hollywood Culture tell them to feel. Helfgott is a NOBODY as a pianist and musician. Helfgott is just a melodramatic film. But stupid people think John Wayne was a wild west sheriff and not an actor….
What I love about him is he has been through so much and yet he has no bitterness, no malice, is very sweet and very humble, just listen to videos of what his wife says about him to see. I also happen to think he is a genius and this orchestra is awesome, it’s just the acoustics in the room that was bad!
I agree. Admittedly, it is a poor recording (single microphone from the choir stalls). I thought the piano sounded better without the orchestra, and the orchestra sounded better without the piano. Together they were a mess. He is much a much better pianist than I could ever dream of being, but he is not a maestro. I hope the audience got the "freak show" they came to see and hear [freak show, term used to describe the exhibition of humans considered to be in some way abnormal or outside broadly accepted norms (Brittanica).]
