I'm following everything closely and am very frustrated about our governments standing on the sidelines, despite them supplying the UKR army with a lot of advanced weapon systems. Good that you are safe. My mom's side of the family immigrated about 1900 through Ellis Island New York from the Austro-Hungarian Empire from what is now the Czech Republic and Slovakia and Poland and the Balkans and Baltics and the Carpathian mountains, so I may be part Ukrainian. My Russian Professor was Ukrainian from Khazakstan. My sister-in-law is from Uzbekistan and half Russian and her grandmother was from Ukraine.

I went to Ukraine for the Euros in 2012, visiting Lviv, Kyiv and Donetsk. I'll always remember how friendly and helpful the people were, and that Lviv and Kyiv were lovely cities. Donetsk was a bit odd, but OK, apart from the fan campsite where they played loud music over the speakers all night so nobody could sleep. Also, walking down the road one evening, I noticed a naked man walking casually down the street, who looked unaware of the fact that he was wearing no clothes. Hopefully this will end soon, and the world, which felt unable to help Ukraine in the fight, is able to help rebuild the country.
I heard yesterday that the very same warship is one that was destroyed later by the Ukrainians. I had a good cheer on their behalf. I'm terribly sorry your country is going through this and hope in years to come that Ukraine finds itself replacing Russia on the world stage. Stay safe!
