Greeting: my question concerns Onomastics -- the study of names. I have been reading some research from 1996 which uses this approach to study name patterns in a Virginia county (1750-1760). I have not yet found what subfield of linguistics Onomastics falls under, although all the material I've seen says it is a subfield of linguistics but never identify the branch. I didn't find the study noted very compelling because the sample was so small, and it was mostly tallies of names from which the investigators drew some statistics. My minor at University of Houston was Cultural anthropology, so I find your videos very useful. Thank you for any help. Kind regards, AC
