Beautiful nature in North Lebanon! You should have continued to mount Qammouaa, a little farther to the North East, but also worth the view.

Lebanon is a democratic country, and the country is governed by a power-sharing system aimed at guaranteeing political representation for all of the country's 18 sects between Muslims and Christians. Lebanon was mainly Christian 80% until the 1930s, and the parliament seats were divided into 60% held by Christians with 40% held by Muslims until 1990. Now in the Lebanese Parliament Christians hold 64 seats in tandem with 64 seats for Muslims, and the high positions are still held all the time by Christians, such as the first position (the president) the commander of the Lebanese army, the governor of Lebanon’s central bank and other positions.

As long as I have spent quite a lot of time inside the Trakai castle (even slept two or three times in it) and frequently conversed with the staff of the castle museum, I'd like to share with you some interesting facts about the castle. Originally the view of the castle in 14th and 15th century was quite different from what we see now. The island was smaller and you couldn't walk around it back then because it's walls went straight into the water. The keep of the castle also was separated from the fort (the big courtyard) by the water. There also was a draw bridge joining outer gate of the whole castle with the bridge to the intermediate island. Originally it was a pontoon bridge which could be easily dismantled or burned in the case of a siege. During the construction of the castle level of the lake Galvė was lowered to the current level and construction workers could store building materials and build scaffolding around the castle. This was achieved by digging the channel to the neighboring lake Akmena as well as the channel between adjacent Skaistis and Baltis lakes, which water levels are lower. By this Galvė water level dropped by about 2 meters. After construction of the castle was completed, these channel were filled with pebbles and ground, and the water of the lake rose to it's original level making the castle literally standing in the water. Few centuries later after castle lost it's significance and was abandoned, the channels were again opened to have a better communication between lakes, the level of the lake dropped and the island grew to it's current size.

Hi Thank you for such an Amazing insight ,I never realized that the castle was smaller and fully surrounded by water...I also had no idea what the water levels were and the lake thing ,it is truly amazing what engineering can do ...good thing it isn't submersed in water anymore so we can enjoy it's view
