“The whole world is a circus if you look at it the right way. Every time you pick up a handful of dust, and see not the dust, but a mystery, a marvel, there in your hand, every time you stop and think, ‘I’m alive...!’ Every time such a thing happens, you are part of the Circus of Dr. Lao.” - 7 FACES OF DR. LAO
People should know that Maneri was also an outstanding professor at the New England Conservatory of Music and the composer of high quality classical music. He was also a scholar when it came to traditional studies in harmony, counterpoint, and form. His knowledge of counterpoint was supreme, and as I remember it he had written more than ten fugues (and an organ fugue) with his own teacher (Josef Schmid, a student of Alban Berg's). I shall always cherish our counterpoint lessons, his friendliness, and his hospitality. For those interested, a good first step would be to enquire into his song, "And Death Shall Have No Dominion" in order to get acquainted with his classical music (thankfully now available on RU-vid with the score in an excellent performance by Christopher Oldfather and Beverly Morgan!).
Joe was my teacher and I was at this concert. I have it on cassette tape that I made while working in the audio department at NEC as student. Thanks for sharing.
Joe died when I was 16, a year when my best friend and grandmother also died. Joe was my godfather. In the short amount of time I knew him he had a profound impact on my life and I am still finding pieces of him to this day. Thank you for uploading this.
