Hi Joe, thanks for the POD info. Just wondering if BookBaby also offers marketing services to help get the author's book posted on top social media sites?

Does anyone know about the BookBaby Bookstore? It wasn't until I decided to write a book and researched publishers that I learned about BookBaby Bookshop. Most people by everything online at Amazon. It seems like a big lift to get them to consider this alternative. What am I missing? It sounds like a great idea, but what are the tradeoffs of skipping Amazon? Thoughts?
We've helped thousands of authors publish through BookShop and are happy to assist you in your own publishing journey and with any other questions you may have about the process or platform! Feel free to read reviews from our customers here: www.bookbaby.com/reviews Give us a call at 877-961-6878, 9am - 8pm EST, or shoot us an email at info@bookbaby.com to get connected with a publishing specialist.
I'm noticing a lot of similarities to the music business. Yes, you have to have a great product. Marketing is key. Connections and who you know are of upmost importance. Alot of people trying to make it, a small percentage see massive success. Ugh I hate the rat race. I just want to be an artist.
Thank you for this. I have an awarding picture book I love getting into the hands of children. I live in a tiny mountain village - 5 hours from Denver. We do usually travel by air several times a year and I give away my bookmarks with a QR code and have given away a few copies of my book which have produced some sales in other countries. Exciting! BUT so very s-l-o-w
You are asking that authors have a relationship with each individual book store is not realistic and the people working at B&N do not make the product selection decisions.
It is realistic if you're serious about it. You MAKE it happen. Additionally, while the "workers" don't make product selections, they do have influence with their managers and the ability to spread your book by word of mouth.
How do I find out what the print on demand print cost will be? I know it says that the author will keep 100% after print cost, but since print cost can vary, how would I figure that out?
Joe, it was such a pleasure being interviewed by you. Thank you for your kind words and support. I am grateful for you and Bookbaby. What a wonderful journey for a new author.

I'm wanting to use graphic novel line art with grayscale type shading. Are there guidelines for this so the images don't look too dark or fill in solid black in detailed areas?
Great information, tips, and encouragement. Thank you! Just this week, I set up an area in my den to write. Stepping back, after two days of preparation, I realized I had subconsciously set it up almost exactly like my desk at work from ten years ago, where I had started my writing journey on my lunch breaks. I’m hoping having a dedicated area will encourage me to use it. By the way, your delivery is enchanting. Diametrically opposed to your sister organization, CD Baby Tony Van der Veen’s RU-vid presence. Both of you give great tips and information, just dramatically different styles. (Sorry, off-topic, but couldn’t help myself, lol).
Great tips and suggestions. I like the idea of picking a time to write, instead of just waiting for inspiration. I have saved your video to my folders, in order to go back and rewatch this as I need.
When you have an image that's supposed to run full-page, or just full-width or just full-height, it needs to run larger than the area to which it runs to the edge. So, say you're running a piece of art to fill out completely a 6-inch by 9-inch page. The image should be larger 6-inch and 9-inch measures, respectively--EXCEPT on the inside (the spine) margin.
As someone who had to learn this stuff piecemeal, while I stumbled through the process with no guidance, I find this information to be very helpful. Wish I had discovered something like this video, years ago.
Loved Jim Foley's story about the man who published a book 50 years ago and he's republishing it now for the holiday season. I'm doing the same thing. My first book, Europe with Two Kids and a Van, a travel memoir and guide was published in 1973 by a traditional publisher and sold lots of copies; recently, I saw a review of an old used copy found by a reader who loved the book and raved about how it helped her as a guide to her travels with her family. The publisher is now defunct and the book has been out of print for years so I've updated it, added all new information, a new cover, and am launching it on November 1st. It will be my Black Friday/Cyber Monday offering at a special discounted price! It would make a great gift for all those who long to travel on a limited budget and need to know it's possible with all the how-to's they will find in my book.
Thank you Joe and Ben for making this video. I saw the G7 sticker on your website and this helps a lot in understanding what exactly that is. If I'm hearing you guys correctly this G7 is adhering to a high standard of print quality. That's all I really need to know haha. All this super technical language Ben was using really went over my head. Really what the average bookbaby published author needs is to for you dumb that technical language down into something the average person could mentally visualize and understand. I had to do this regularly when I worked as an IT specialist for General Motors and the State of Michigan. Keep up the good work Joe. You really are a great interviewer.
