Against my better judgement (I was taken by a girlfriend), I went to a George Michael concert many years ago in Tokyo. I wasn’t a great Wham fan and only knew of him from Wham (this was a few years after he’d gone solo). I was absolutely astonished. It was and still is the best concert I’ve ever been to. The greatest singer of my generation.
Oh my - him holding the baby at the baptism is just so adorable, he is smiling so beautifully. He has said in numerous interviews that he is (was) godfather to a number of children - how sad they lost him way too soon....Gosh, it does hurt to look at this whole video, what a wonderful soul he was. And, his version of "Going to a Town" brought me to sobs - for so many reasons. It is just so beautifully sung and Wainwright's lyrics are so pertinent to our U.S. this past decade.
Legendary concert and a legendary band. The Chinese audience loved Wham and George Michael. Wonder what these people have to say nearly 40 years since that concert... especially that toddler who was holding a Wham tour book/memorabilia.
This is such a sign of his coming solo performances - all the running around, moving, dancing, engaging the audience. His voice here is so incredible, it has almost every range of his vocal range; stunning. - The lyrics to "Blue" are really quite amazing, this doesn't get much attention but it is so good - written by a 22 year old....crazy talent. It's amazing GM added some Chinese musical sounds to this performance of Blue. Nothing the guy couldn't do. I mean just look at this: GM did all the work on this tour (as he always did) - the arrangements, all the singing (imagine having to learn the lyrics for all the songs), I'm guessing the staging. Andrew knew right from the start that- it had to go in the direction it did (with GM doing the writing, etc) or it was going to vanish where the rest of such pop groups disappeared into. Both of have said this and both agreed to the arrangement as it suited them. George said in interviews that if anyone had a right to complain it would be him and he had no complaints and he was always absolutely fine with the situation as they were best friends - and remained so after Wham split up.
GM's self-awareness and awareness of the world around him made him the incredible talent that he was and may well have contributed to his issues with being a public figure - He always seemed, to me, like a bit of a raw nerve, feeling things so strongly - it comes out in his songwriting and music generally. A kind, thoughtful, wicked smart and astute human can be a blessing and a curse and he experienced both those sides of it. He is so missed. We so could use his humanity now ❤
Such a handsome man.. talented in every way..singing. dancing. So warm ❤️ hearted and generous to so many people..may you RIP ❤George..will always love your music
Sadly Love Machine was the only major hit that The Miracles had without Smokey Robinson. They left Motown in 1976 and disbanded in 1978. Sadly all of his former partners are dead. Bobby Rogers, Warren "Pete" Moore, and Ronnie White (with whom he co wrote My Girl for The Temptations) and also helped Stevie Wonder get into Motown as a little boy.
Love George, the very best of British talent, the song blue for me is one of his best songs, what is so sad is you miss the message in the song due to the uptempo music, hard to imagine demons tortured this wonderful artist.
