A section of it was used to process new inmates I believe until 2004. This place was definitely never a pleasant place. Roaches would crawl out of the water spigots when you would turn the water on and lights were flickering everywhere. The most unpleasant place I have ever been. I've never been back since, so this place did its job.

Richard Ramirez stayed at the Cecil Hotel, but I don't think anyone even suspected him of killing anyone there at the hotel. Dahmer definitely killed someone at the Ambassador Hotel in Milwaukee.
I can drive up to Bath and try to find his childhood stomping grounds. I think it's just a few hour drive for me. IDK if anyone would want to see that or not. I think Steven Hicks was the only murder he committed in Ohio, but I'm not really sure.
Actually, there are some VERY NICE things going on in Gary. People like you that only focus on the negative are part of the problem. @8:40 you were across from a community center that not only provides FREE training for a person to get their GED, they also provide FREE construction training and certification opportunities that are required to join some unions. They also provide FREE childcare for students studying for their GED. That ministry has done allot. I work for a different local church & non-profit that operates amoung other things an urban farm that can produce fresh produce year round. We just sent some freshly picked tomatoes to the local food bank in Merrillville, IN this morning. We also currently have 70 + kids from 6th - 12th grade who went through a 9 week training program earning $15 an hour working on our farm as well as other area urban farms. This is the programs fourth year. We also have a FREE program that provides free chef prepared meals daily to residents who have certain ailments like diabetes, heart desease, etc. Those participants are reffered from their doctor who monitors their health. Since the program also includes cooking & nutrition classes from a nurse practitioner and with the help of some dietary changes some participants no longer require some of their medication (at the direction of their physician.) We have allot of other programs and we fight for other kinds of justice as well, and there are ALLOT of other churches, non-profits, & concerned citizens that are making a difference and trying to bring about a positive change slowly but surely working in the background. I feel that these types of videos are irresponsible because it can make out city seem hopeless & chase people away, people that perhaps can help effect change, people who may have resources to invest in the city because it takes money to fund these programs. My job is funded by a private foundation that decided to invest in our town. There is allot more positive changes on the horizon that I'm not at liberty to speak on. We have problems here, but our problems don't have us. We are a resilient city that has not given up hope inspite of your opinion,
I just need to say.. although all he did and all those horrible crimes.. You just can‘t compare Jeff to other serial killer. Something about this man was different. I still believe him when he said he hadn‘t fun killing all those people. I really think he was sick. And somehow this whole case makes me sad.

The worst cities in the US all have one thing in common which is predominance of a certain demographic. This demographic comprises 13 percent of the US population yet commits over half of the murder and violent crime.
It looks like former Mayor Richard Gordon Hatcher's accomplishments have done nothing but lower the living standards for hundreds of American cities and Countries around the World. Yet sadly a monument honoring this man is now present in Gary, Indiana. The remnants of a once great City now in ruins. A sad commentary which is partially seen in the physical presence of Gary, Indiana today. And oddly a monument has been erected in Gary, Indiana to this man. A ghost town! Is this the epitaph to Mayor Hatcher as the "Dean of Black Politics" has left for us all to see? The founder of Gary, Elbert H. Gary is probably turning over in his grave!
A shame that all the money made by Michael Jackson that little or none of it has been available to help his birthplace where is birth home is located. Evidently all the money made by Michael Jackson is being used by people in California, which has little need for such funds.
