This story is about W W 2 parents and their baby boomer children so my whole family just loved it. The movie came out in April, 1963 and I was only 13 myself so the movie resonated with me. The Elvis-like rock and roll character was pre-Beatles music too.
The story is better when the kiss is prevented by the punch. Otherwise the conflict changes from “will Kim give Conrad her first kiss” to “will Kim give Conrad another kiss?” Which has less drama.
I'm here after finding out this song was used in the end credits of Season 3, episode 3 of Ash Vs. Evil Dead. It was sung by Bruce Campbell & Lucy Lawless.
Interestingly, the year after this film was made Ann-Margret filmed "Viva Las Vegas" with Elvis Presley, the obvious but unspoken figure upon whom "Conrad Birdie" was based.
“You can talk til your face is blue…”. Hahaha! Suddenly I get the joke that Tobias Funke was auditioning this song for his understudy with Blue Man Group
I first heard the song as part of a Middle School Musical review, amusingly enough. I, too, am glad you left the full intro on it. And it's nice that they let Mom sing even though she clearly... can't. ;-) [ well, okay, maybe the number just isn't in her key... ]
I remember seeing the film when I was 13, but I didn't realise that it was based on a stage musical. I remember it was very colourful and hugely enjoyable
YES! I wish he was on every TV show & game show you could possibly have. (Whats weird is I watched several episodes of just Paul answering to Peter Marshall's questions on the Hollywood Squares. Then I immediately started listening to random songs that I know or watch other movies. & I think "Paul could do this song/movie/TV series/game show/voice over (for a book) & would do a fantastic job!" I wish there was a way to use his voice to make a song/TV series/voice over now. I just dont know how to do it currently.
Adults, you push us all like a selfish boss Adults, you blame us all for your every loss Adults, you're such pathetic working, screaming, jerk folks, Rude demanding, big commanding enslavers! And just to piss you off more, Adults, you want respect but it don't want you! Adults, you punish us for what we didn't do! Who'd wanna be like you are-- pushy in every way! Oh, what's with adults today! Adults, we've tried our best, but what do you want? Adults, you still yell and scream and you spank and taunt. Adults, you're all just strolling cruising, for a losing fight Send it packing, or the whackin' should start We can hit you to ya know... Adults, you think you have the rights, but you don't! Adults, you think you'll beat us all, but you won't We're sick of all of your demands-- that's why we won't obey. Oh, what's with Adults today! Adults, you've pushed all around the last time! Adults, we'll sue for each and every dime Adults, you think we have no power, any hour BUT... Ding-Dong, you're wrong, we're all so strong together, We can take you on now... Adults, the time has come for us to separate Adults, you had your chance to cooperate We tried get along, but its time to say so long We can live just fine... You just cry and whine... Pay the bills and let it shine... What's with adults today!!!
100% agree with you! I miss him so much. I wish i could have met him. I'd have so many questions for him to answer makes me sad that he is no longer with us.
I love how this song's written in the '20s style that was in vogue when these parents were kids. When they were driving *their* parents nuts, with all that jazz and flappering and whatnot.
