Hi welcome to my channel which is mostly about adventure and exploration and features: fell-walking; cycling; Laser sailing; canals and Narrowboats; model railways; motorcycling; and live bands. Hope you enjoy having a browse 🙂
Beautiful, but can I just say there’s no such thing as Lancashire AND Merseyside. Merseyside is (unfortunately) no more than an administrative name for an area within Lancashire. It’s not nor ever has or will be a ‘county’
Hi Dave, yes Great Gable is a ‘Great’ Lakeland mountain. I am particularly interested in the southern face with both Great Napes and White Napes. I’d like to ‘Thread the Needle’ but am not overly keen on doing it on my own. 🙂
Hi Stephen. Wonderful video mate, there are some belting mountains on the Coledale Horeshoe, looks like you managed to pick a pretty good day in terms of the weather, which is a skill in itself at the moment! Haha All the best Dave 😀⛰🥾
Hi Dave thanks for your great feedback. I had been meaning to do this walk for sometime but it’s a bit of a drive and the weather was never right. I know the Coledale Head Inn well and used to frequent the place when I was a member of St Helen’s Rock Climbing Club. 🍺🍺🍺
Yes I was speaking to someone at the Heatons Bridge Inn and told that someone had kindly mowed part of the Cat Tail Lane walk. Mind it is the landowners responsibility to maintain the public rights of way.
Shocking the state of the footpaths. Is it case of use it or lose it. Or should our corrupt & inept councils be looking after them, as a matter of course?
I am currently walking all the public footpaths in Scarisbrick for the Scarisbrick Parish Council. Apparently there is a facility to complain about missing signs, footpath obstruction, ploughed up paths, dangerous stiles and bridges on the Lancashire County Council website.
Interesting question. The ‘Pele’ tower was demolished so that a more comfortable family home could be built. The lowest parts of the tower are still evident. I remarked to the guide about the ‘White Tower’, which I think looks out of place. Apparently the current owners have researched and found that only the tower was painted white. Perhaps it’s in recognition that the ‘Hall’ was once a ‘ Pele Tower.’ From my understanding the current building dates from the 1500s.
Have you seen my other ‘Old Hall’ RU-vid videos? I was disappointed that I couldn’t photograph the rooms, they were superb. Thanks again for your support!🙂
Thank you for your encouraging comments. There is an ‘Open Day’ on the 11th May 2024. I’m not sure if that’s to showcase the school or the hall, or perhaps even both. I’m very fortunate as I only live a mile away from such a beautiful building and park. 🙂
Thanks for the tour. I had always been fascinated by this gothic wonder of the Pugins since I read about it in "The Victorian Country House". Perhaps I'll make it there one day.
Hi Stephen. That brings back some memories. When I was a kid 39 odd years ago we had a model railway in Blackpool that you could go to and take control of all the trains. I loved it. Thanks for sharing this, brilliant! 😀👍🚂
Hi Stephen, wonderful mate. I do love the Fairfield Horseshoe, I did it the clockwise route too, I want to go back and do it the other way round. Get the real hard graft done first and then have a meander down the other side down to Nab Scar. Thanks for sharing mate, loved it. All the best, Dave
Well I looked at the weather forecast and it looked like wall to wall sunshine, sadly it was not. But due to the cloud formation and inversions it looked very atmospheric. Thanks for your lovely comment 😀
Hi yes I do. The boat is currently moored at the Scarisbrick Marina on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. I had a lot of work done to the boat and had a professional respray and changed the colour from Green to Navy blue. It’s really great to hear from you. 🙂
Thanks Dave and Happy New Year to you too! I found the route for the walk in my local free magazine ‘Grange Now.’ They publish a monthly local walk, some are very good. I’ll definitely do this one again and call in for a pint at the Cuckoo Brow Inn at the end.
Excellent, what a great idea that is, good on them. At last we are finally getting some weather where we can get out. December has just been a washout. We were out on Helvellyn last Saturday. It was lovely.
Hi Stephen. Lovely video mate. Thanks for sharing your adventure. The RU-vidr Blag Crag was up there a few weeks ago in his video. Looks a really interesting place. Hope you had a lovely Christmas and all the best for the New Year. 😀🥾⛰
Hi Dave Cheers and all the very best to you for Christmas and the New Year. 🍺🍺🍺. I’ve never heard of ‘Black Crag’ so I’ll have to check his videos out. I’ve very recently bought a DJI Mini 4 Pro drone so hopefully I’ll be able to get some exciting footage. But I’m not sure that I’ll take it on all my adventures. 😀
@@adventurouswarrior His channel is amazing mate, really good. I must admit those done's give brilliant footage. When do you take your drivers licence for it? Haha
Hi yes it is. Lots of variety and beginner friendly. It was one of my first ever caves back in the 1980s. The Cheese Press is good fun and can be avoided. 😀
No not really I got some great encouragement from the ‘team’ and have full trust in the guy leading who is a very experienced caver and a member of Upper Warfdale Cave Rescue Team.
Hi again, just looked at your Channel and see that you use a drone. I’m thinking about getting one to enhance my videos, would you recommend the one you use?
Hi Dave great to hear from you. Well I love Fellwalking and Mountaineering, but in truth I’m really into adventure and exploration. I like to test myself (to the limit). And yes the cave system was testing both physically and mentally. The ‘tight squeeze’ was very tight and I could feel my ribs (bones) being squeezed. If I’d have panicked I’d never had got through the squeeze. I did quite a bit of caving when I was in my twenties. However last year I had to have an MRI scan on my shoulder and arm due to snapping my Biceps Tendon. I can’t believe it but had a panic attack as soon as I was put in the machine. My reaction shocked me and the only way I could manage the scan was by having my eyes closed. So it was a big test, both physically and mentally. I had surgery and as part of my recovery I’ve started climbing again and other extreme sports. 😀
Amazing!! Keep the videos coming I really enjoyed this, it’s hard to find videos of just watching someone climb. Suggestion tho instead of a side angle could you do like your back facing the camera? I wonder what the different shot angles would look like! But great job👍
Thank you very much for your lovely comment. I retired from the Rock Climbing scene in 2007 but still went to the occasional Climbing Wall. I completely stopped climbing just before Covid 19 to protect my mum who I looked after. In 2014 I snapped my Anterior Cruciate Ligament and underwent reconstructive surgery and 2022 I broke my right wrist and later in the year I snapped my Long Head of Biceps Tendon and underwent reconstructive surgery again. A full year later I wanted to get fit again and thought that I would see if I could still Rock Climb. Now I’m really motivated to get stronger and fit again. Thank for taking an interest. ❤️
