Prokofiev sought out the advice of Nikolai Medtner for these. Medtner’s wife, Anna, was quite surprised at how cordial Medtner was to Prokofiev, as Medtner was no fan of Prokofiev’s music - he once quipped, “If that’s music, I am no musician.” Anyway, Prokofiev was rather enamored of Medtner’s music, and the influence of Medtner in these pieces is clear.
Czech composer Vladimír Tichý has made his own completion of this - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hll01xz7NRM.html (from 37.00 to 55.45)
Ireland's piano music is some of my favourite music of all time. It's laced with feeling and controlled emotion. Plus, I find it humorous in the most subtle of ways. A musical visionary.
is the main theme of #3 (and especially at 15:25 ) supposed to be a quote from Beethoven's Eroica? Really interesting pieces, they feel more like operatic "parodies" than "fantasies"
Debussy’s late work is astounding. The Élégie is his last composition and it is devastating. Each note and gesture is refined and evocative. He distilled his craft down to the sparest of means yet delivers a deep and profound emotional landscape. Thank you for posting this breathtaking performance by Bavouzet.
Together with Debussy's Children Corner (and there seem to be some hint of Debussy and Satie here as well) one of the loveliest children's pieces for piano I've heard so far. And nicely performed. Thanks for the upload.
