DON'T COUNT. Although I would love to find an arcade to try House of the Gundead. Exit the Gungeon was... not good. It did not, as the kids say, have the sauce.
Oh that wasn't even the half of it. It survived the ragdolling, then got snatched up by a passing crow. Likes like if you made it through cancer then walking out of the clinic when it's in remission a mugger shoots you to death.
This channel needs to have at least a 100k subscribers goddammit. Love your vids man, I’m binging all your videos after finding your enter the Gungeon video haha.
@@benfrediscool I’m gonna be so sad if you stop posting buddy. You’re too damn funny and got great charisma. Your channel reminds me of Ranton’s reviews. You’re the most underrated channel I’ve ever seen. I hope you get to a million subs soon 🙏🙏❤️ Love from Canada
Why would anyone be upset if Christian iconography being used in media when it has already been a propaganda tool for thousands of years. I understand where you’re coming from but it’s childish that you’re NOW realizing this. I mean if you’re defending a period where that change was already in place. Maybe if you was a bit older you would understand
If ghost is your favorite game I got good news for you….. there’s countless games that are better cough cough elden ring just to name one….. no DEI bs, so there you go, now show your support if you’re genuine

Yeah... you're not going to like my opinion on Elden Ring. I've made 3 videos on it already. Here is an interesting litmus test, what are you top 5 favorite games?
Men are scared of women now?! Lmao. Btw the original ghost wasn’t much more than a good game. Stop lying a pretending the original game was a triumph just to prove make a point. I’m more concerned about performance and technical issues instead of feeding into the ABCD etc war. Making this vids just shows that black rock got to you

Fair video from a more neutral perspective. Odd thing to read the rest of the comments. Seems you didnt bend the knee to the pro-dei crowd and they attack. And thats how normal neutral people become "right wing extremists"
I wrote the video from the perspective of, "how could I persuade my friends who are liberal, that this happens and why it could be a detriment." I'm glad it came across more neutral, I feel that's the only way it could be persuasive to someone who might be persuadable.
Japanese women in 1603 samurai families would have been taught swordsmanship and archery. This was necessary because Japan was in a 100 year civil war and all the men were being conscripted to battle. These women were not at home waiting to reenact their least favorite scenes from "7 Samurai".
The only reason "diversity" is a red flag now is because they have made it a red flag. If they talk about it in the marketing or flaunt it, then we know the game will be bad, because they had a priority over making a good game. They favored being "diversity" as a marketing ploy or virtue signal rather. That is what people pushing back "woke" or "DEI" or "Bridge" or whatever name you want to use, that is what they are pushing back against.
Personally I think Duchess looked cool in a "grizzled badass" kind of way. But you're right about the other character designs being ugly and absurd. It's interesting that unattractiveness seems to have become its own goal for these game developers, maybe as another box to be checked.
That's fair about Duchess. It is interesting I agree. Almost like it's anti-feminist to have characters who are conventionally attractive, which to me has always been amusing. Example being Spiderman, I don't want Spiderman to be unfit and homey, just because I'm out of shape. I want something to aspire to be. That's why Daw was just wild to me. Just a massive ball of a character but not as a characterization. It's like if they made Roadhog just happen to be immense but he's actually a DPS hacker like Sombra.
Pretty sure the only reason they made it a 300 year or so time skip was so they could say "Europeans bad." Prove me wrong Suckerpunch interns... If the leaks are true and the team's key talent in fact did leave and this game is made by the skeleton crew that made the Legends mode and the island DLC. The least credible part of that rumor however, because of its sheer observatory, is that the reason it's a skeleton crew working on the sequel is because Sucker Punch is working on something else that Sony sees as more important. I would find it hilarious if that was in fact after the director left becasue that would make this one of those director's cuts that actually didn't include the original director. Only time will tell. There's also whispers of them scrapping a true Ghost Of Tsushima 2 a while ago, where it was basically going from being Assassin's Creed but in Japan and better to being Assassin's Creed Brotherhood but in Japan and better. Focusing on Jin building up his own group of Ghosts to fight the Mongols across Japan. Before you say it, I don't mind a female lead so long as she's well written. Masako was my favorite character for most of my first playthrough. I just don't trust them to make this female lead as well written, nor do I trust them to give us real stakes compared to the Mongol invasion in the original game. Um Flintlock also sold itself on... Um all the antagonists being a metaphor for colonialism so... Really bad anti marketing that will prevent many a sane person from giving it a try. These people realize that advertising should make someone want to support it, right? Not make them run for the hills? Yet if a story is written like 500 years ago in Africa, or given that setting, they won't be asking to put a white person in it. That's hypocrisy, kids. Wait, did they even have written language in most of that part of the world 500 years ago? I digress.
These are great thoughts. Like you said a female protagonist isn't a problem. It's only a problem if the governing principle in design of the character got supplanted with DEI. If the goal stopped being a more intriguing and interesting character and became a more intersectional character. I still have hope for the game, it'll undoubtedly play well and look amazing, I just want it to feel authentic to the time period, and feel authentic to whatever the characters motivations are. I didn't even think about them setting it 300 years later so they could have Europeans as the villains. That would be unironically hilarious in how cliche to the times it would be.
@@benfrediscool Yeah and more specifically the country that did the most business with Japan in the early days was Portugal. Not a country you hear about much in history, mostly do to lack of war participation ,but they did some cool things. They were the only European nation with diplomatic ties and trade with Japan way back 1540s.so this game is set shortly after they had exclusive trading.
What comes to it is, that Sucker Punch seem to really appreciate the culture it tells stories from and try to represent in the most realistic and respectful ways. The historians estimate that during the sengoku period up to 30% of battlefield combatants could have been women. Japanese culture is the most likely one to historically have a female warrior. You can google "onna-musha" if you do not believe. So they chose a character that is just very historically accurate, and they could have a cool female character in the same go. And since it already gives Kill Bill vibes, the character must be a vindictive woman.
I would love it to be amazing. It already looks like it will be far and away the most beautiful game ever created, and the previous one was incredible. I'll hold out hope it's Kill Bill and not Charlie's Angels reboot.
I really don't see the reason behind these low hanging fruit videos, unless you are going to bring up the root cause of dei and why it's being pushed and who is pushing it and what tribe they're from then all this is just a queef 😂 this is like 2016 edgy bro shit, you want to keep you channel we know you can't name them 😅
I'm not quite sure I understand. I did bring up the root cause. The root cause is expressing morality in the lowest effort possible way. It's equating virtue to a set of unalterable characteristics instead of a diligent effort to change. Every person struggles and needs to change for the better, but DEI will tell you that your project or business or even introspective self is virtuous or righteous just by diversity. I think Amala's quote that I included at 3:08. I guess you're saying I needed to be more aggressive towards liberal politics, seeing as the left is the progenitor of these identity politics? It is 100 percent a leftist ideal, DEI at all costs. Maybe I was playing it too close to the chest if that wasn't coming across. The issue is that I don't think that gets anyone to change or think more critically. I'm hoping this video could persuade someone who is center left, instead of own someone who is far left. I appreciate you giving the video a shot!
Wasn't Sony named the entire video? Regardless, I don't think political groups can be blamed for this either. This was more about the win loss of a company trying to appeal to said groups. I certainly don't think it's the fault of those groups either but rather a large set of disassociated individuals trying to do what they think will be the most inclusive and ultimately make them the most money.
20:35 once again, I don't follow. You don't want a character to be automatically virtuous, but you also don't like it when they're kind of an asshole? Plenty of protagonists across the board are unlikeable, a personal favorite of mine being Deacon st John. An argument could also be made for Kratos, or any evil playthrough of a game that lets you make choices. I don't see how Aloy snapping at Varl is her being written "like a man" either, unless your argument is that she should be meek and pleasant and inoffensive because she's a woman. Which, might I add, would be coming at a moment when she is _far_ down that heirarchy of needs, thinking that the entire world is officially doomed. Edit: and I don't totally follow the argument that Jesse Faden is a shining example of characterization. I love Control, but Jesse is one of the flattest, most utterly _lifeless_ characters I have ever played as. She is the _epitome_ of an audience stand-in character. One who doesn't actually care about the crazy situation she's in, because it's fun to fly around and shoot stuff and it's not like _you_ really care about Dylan, so why bother having her care either? Theres no reason for _you_ to care that the SCP foundation kidnapped her brother, so why balk at working for them? Flat, lifeless, zero characterization.
The reasons I included those characters is because they were coded as woman. My university degree was in Communication Studies, that doesn't mean I'm an expert or perfect at communicating, it just meant I thought about it a lot and wrote a bunch of essays. I don't put a ton of stock in Degrees these days. In every single paper I ever read on communication there was included the differences between how men and women communicated in the study. There are clearly outliers and crossover, but every paper had the differences split out because it's inherit that there will be differences. When I see a character basically doing everything a man would do in a communication event and have almost zero of what you would see a woman do, it makes me think they just wrote a man and had a woman play it. Now that sort of thing would be a whole series of videos and would take me an extreme amount of time to research and make, but in my opinion those were characters I thought were believable women according to their dialogue and performance. Aloy is basically always gruff, typically a male communication pattern, Aloy is aggressively fixated on things and not people, another typically male communication pattern. Aloy is pretty low on empathy despite her actions being compassionate, another typically male communication pattern. Aloy is extremely high in verbal and physical aggression traits, typically associated with males. Like I said there is crossover, but there was enough discrepancy that I started feeling like they didn't write a woman, they wrote a man played by a woman. These are great thoughts in your comment. Thanks for sharing them.
I think you're putting some words into mouths by saying "Oh, they think LOTR is _EVIL_ for not having any characters that are black or Chinese!" I don't agree with the shoehorning, but neither do I agree with demonizing or exaggerating the intent of DEI efforts. That sort of thing doesn't even serve your argument, it just makes you sound like you're jonesing for an invitation onto an alpha male podcast. I mean, instead of directly addressing whats being said, you're inventing an argument that nobody is _actually_ making just to make a ridiculous thing seem even _more_ ridiculous. Wrestling with pigs, as it were.
That's fair, I could have made that point better. That is what I believe is the natural conclusion of DEI, the example being the Oscars excluding that Mads Mikkelsen movie because it was a primarily Danish cast. Maybe evil was the wrong word, but the Oscars is certainly saying that it's "Disdainful" or "Wrong" to not have that level of diversity, therefore it should be excluded from the competition. I think the natural end result will be people thinking something is "evil," if it's not diverse enough. Because the assumption will be that it was racist and that's why it wasn't diverse, and racism is evil. That's the real core issue with DEI is that is ascribes virtue not to actions of individuals, but to inclusion of groups. Here is a ridiculous example, you could write a movie that changes the world and results in poverty being ended, racism being over, happy people everywhere, but if it wasn't diverse enough it still couldn't get an Oscar.
I don't understand the hate on Daw and Duchess tbh. Why does Daw get shat on, but Mei doesn't? And what's even the problem with Duchess in the _first_ place? If the problem is just being big, I dunno man. I've got a coworker who's fatter than any of those characters, and he's still out and about doing a somewhat physical job. It doesn't stretch my suspension of disbelief for a criminal to be packing some pounds as well. And for Duchess, "old person who still fights and stuff" is one of the most time-honored character types ever. I know it's stupid to argue about a game that shut down longer ago than it even existed, but what _else_ am I supposed to do today? ;)
Those are totally fair thoughts. I don't think it's stupid to argue about this dead game, I love it when you leave these comments, especially if it's challenging my preexisting thoughts. Deadlock for example has an old woman character, but her whole deal is she's stealing the lifeforce out of other people to be young which I think is a very relatable trope to the human condition. That character didn't bother me, I think maybe it was how authentically old she is that bothered me. You get something like Up from Pixar and I'm 100% in. The reason being it's not ignoring his oldness it's telling an authentic story of a man that age. Chasing after the young man's game of super criminal heists, feels weird to me. As far as Daw goes, Roadhog never bothered me, he looks tanky and like he can soak up damage, and that happens to be his whole deal in game as well. His function and his figure match. Daw in my opinion is fat just to be inclusive to fat people, and when it's didactic like that is when it chafes.
About Daw, to be frank, he is ugly and wrong in many ways. Not just Daw, but almost everyone of them is wrong in many way. What i mean ugly, its not about physical body, the design make him ugly. As for Mei, yes she is chubby, but her design what make her look good. She scream "ICE" by just looking her design. It what make her identity recognize by player. As for Daw, i dont know what his role. Turns out, his role is a medic. His design not telling you of his role, people confuse, his outfit doesnt scream "MEDIC". I thought he is a technician who can hack. But concord overall, most of them doesnt have identity. While overwatch have identity. Its not about being fat, but how the fat char bring to the game and fit their role. For example , there is a fat af, ugly af, stinky af, slow af char and he is famous, PUDGE from Dota2. Many people cosplay as him, and he also one favorite char in the game.
I didn't realize there was a name for this. My least favorite thing in modern media is when a bunch of people get in a room and there just happens to be every variety of person. It just seems unrealistic in a random group of people. Especialy when the writers make sure to point it out. That doesn't mean it can't happen. Just unlikely.
I think I see where you’re coming from but I have some counter points. Sorry in advance for the long comment here. Bottom line, we don’t know anything about the story of Ghost of Yotei yet. What we do know is the team behind Tsushima wrote a great main character with a compelling narrative. Maybe we’ve been burned too many times with bad video game writing (e.g. cyberpunk 2077, imo) and so it’s easy to assume the worst at the outset. But ghost of yotei looks gorgeous and the music they put in the trailer is *chefs kiss* But I’m also someone who had no problems with Ellie in the last of us 2 or Alloy in forbidden west. I know some did and I’ve tried to understand why. I recognized the influence of DEI in last of us 2 but didn’t feel it helped or harmed the narrative, it was just… there. Didn’t seem like a huge influence on the story, but rather contributed to a side-characters’s motivation. And I felt conflicted about Abby the whole time! My opinion of her didn’t change at all when she decided to take care of those two kids, (and I say that as a moderate liberal person) I just viewed that as her new motivation/reason to keep going after she had hit several low points. The only true gripe I have with tlou2 narrative is I think abby should’ve died at the end of the game as a natural result of the narrative it was telling. Those writers chickened out when they let her go! Or at least they chickened out when they didn’t let us choose- oh man, how impactful of an ending would that have been? Alloy’s backstory is super tragic and it also makes sense to me that she can be a little abrasive at times. But also I have a soft spot for Alloy- my daughter loves her, which means we played both games together. So it’s hard for me to be objective on that one. Of course concord is it’s own mess, but overall I have really appreciated the effort in games like last of us 2 and spiderman 2 to tell what I view as nuanced stories. Like nobody is 100% good or 100% evil and it’s interesting to see Peter Parker feel remorse for things he’s done, even when those things he did were morally and legally justifiable. I end up passing on many games, (including team shooters like concord and overwatch) so there’s a lot I miss. But I can’t really think of any game I’ve played, Sony or otherwise, that was a lesser product due to DEI initiatives.
That's a fair perspective to take. And I absolutely appreciate you taking sometime to share your counterpoints. I'm always going to be excited to hear your thoughts on this sort of thing. I think balance is needed in all things, and I could always be just talking out of my butt so have rebuttals is always critical. I'm sure you know what didactic means, and when the message becomes didactic, where you know it's the company being didactic is when I feel it's is frustrating. With Spiderman it turned these interesting and intense villains capable of great dramatic depth, into mediocre, uninteresting, forgettable nothings. You could sense that the entire game was trying to push a narrative, that all these criminals Peter put away were just misunderstood. That's some extreme ludo narrative dissonance when your game is literally about how stylishly you can enact violence on criminals. It wasn't a choice made for the story, it was a choice made for the message, and that's where it becomes a detriment to entertainment as a whole. I appreciate your thoughts!
“We don’t know anything about ghost of wokei yet” Bro: 100% completely fair and balanced statement. I also think fans of the game had really high expectations but we can all sense the disturbance in the force and it’s because there is a HUGE difference between SONY Group Corporation (SONY) a Japanese company and Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (SCE) North America A COMPANY THAT WAS FORMED IN 2016 BY REORGANIZING SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT (SCE) AND SONY ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK INTERNATIONAL (SNEI) into SONY INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT LLC. SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT (SCE) was the group that bought Sucker Punch Productions back in 2011 and was reorganized(dissolved) into (cough evil, cough woke, cough dei) SONY INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT LLC Sure is a good thing your beloved Ghost of Tsushima was in development from 2014 until June 22, 2020 while Sucker Punch Productions had full creative control until 2016. BUT Sucker punch released 8 perfect games. Sucker Punch Games release dates: Ghost of Tsushima. Jul 17, 2020. Sucker Punch. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. Oct 16, 2020. Sucker Punch. Ghost of Yotei. TBA 2025. Sucker Punch. Infamous. May 26, 2009. Sucker Punch. Infamous 2. Jun 7, 2011. ... Infamous Collection. Aug 28, 2012. ... Infamous: Festival of Blood. Oct 25, 2011. ... Infamous: First Light. Aug 26, 2014 All beside ONE REALLY CONCERNING GAME completed or near cmpleted before SCE bought Sucker Punch Productions But our beloved SONY Interactive Entertainment LLC would NEVER push for any changes right? RIGHT??? Look at the 400 million dollar success of Concord gamers, why would you ever be worried about the Ghost of Wokei not delivering another SONY Interactive Entertainment LLC home run?????? The new Ghost will be amazing for sure right??? Alll the original Sucker punch guys from June 22, 2020 are still are working at Sucker Punch right? No weird creative policy changes would ever force them out right? Just look at the new voice actor who is also the character model for that sweet sweet (baby) new protagonist you needed, i mean we created for you..because you needed it you and your clan Saki ''got to have my honor and the old ways only'' fun bigots. You gamers wont buy anything if it’s not fun and we are TRYING trying to indoc Entertain you. Now give us the $700 for the PS5 and DONT YOU DARE voice your concerns or we shall have people who prolly never even played GOT argue with you on the internet....... There is nothing in this world that would make me happier than being 1000 percent wrong about all of this and mine and others concerns that SONY Interactive Entertainment would basically do what they do. I LOVE Ghost of Tsushima. My whole channel is just ours of game play since it dropped on pc and I was fully ready to drop $700 on a PS5 pro just so i didnt have to wait to play it BUT if whats been going on with Ubisoft, and Concord, and the $400 billion lost on Skull and bones is the reason Gamers are calling it Ghost of Wokei and its the responsibility of SCE and Sucker punch productions to prove to the majority of gamers that are concerns were such a silly reach and over reaction or they better get ready to be smacked in the face with the concord check book because some of us are not going to support entertainment companies products that we dont find very entertaining $50 says they will kill Jin and make you watch it. Just a gut feeling..
The issue I have with alot of things like making games more progressive, or including DEI elements. Is along with what you said. I am 100% all for LGBTQ+ being represented in games, If you want to make a drag queen hulk, go for it. Just as long as you make it make sense in the narrative and character design. A character is just as likely to be terrible as a white dude, as it is as a black woman, if that character is not written well enough. I do not care if there is not a single white person in a video game or T.V. Show. Just as long as the writers put in the effort to make the character designs work.
100%. It wouldn't even be an issue if they kept the story or characters as the highest aim, but it gets supplanted by the DEI. If they designed the whole character around the drag queen aesthetic and didn't just tack it onto the knife assassin it wouldn't have seemed so wild.
As promised, my next question/comment. I’d love to see a video on/hear your thoughts on what you think the “Fast and Furious” of video gaming is… but I think I might know the answer.
I think you do as well. It's the gaming franchise that happens to share the same initials! FF! Jk. it's CoD. That would be an interesting video to make.
I cant decide for sure if red dead redemption 2 is better or not, if you look at it ragnarok is a better overall package, seems like every inch of the game was very much made with love and intention in contrast with some issues that red dead has, very hard decision. Both of them i cried a lot towards the end these might be games but they are the best pieces of media in general that i have ever experienced, taught me a lot, really.
One of the brilliant things in Red Dead is the dynamic moments from the system interactions. That's something God of War doesn't really have. Just like you mentioned, it's very intentionally crafted, but lacks that dynamic sandbox surprise of systems stacking on each to make hilarious or epic moments. I love your thought at the end, that regardless of being games they still were the most powerful media influences you've had. I 100 percent agree. For me no media could have quite impacted me and stuck with me like Shadow of the Colossus did. Love these thoughts you shared, thanks for the comment!
