Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have. Unfortunately at the time I purchased this (it's been 9 years ago now...) there wasn't any video review of said item and like most products that do not have video review, you go on your best guess and for me, price was the deciding factor among available options.
The Viking props wand is really wired up wrong. The firing should be the push button, not the activation switch. What you are hearing when you push the button is the venting sound effect from the video game. That should be a separate button all together.

This is why you do years of obsessive research then build your own. I did a spirit pack that blows away that first one. that is halloween store trash. I think you gota sell this stuff and build you're own.
I thought it vented and used compressed air or something? The pictures on the site show the pack venting but no video. I'm glad I saw this video before thinking about buying. I should just do the time and build it myself. Honestly it would.be a great project for me and my sons who are are also super ghost heads. It's gotta be genetic. My two year old after discovering Ghostbusters wants Ghostbusters every day now, from the movies, cartoon and Xbox video game. I'm really hoping to take them all this fall to see Afterlife.
I hope no one sees this and decides to give Bob their business. Both of these packs are inaccurate and poorly made, however in addition to this, Bob is well-known in the propping community for being a recaster(equivalent of theft), a liar, and full-on creep.
You are getting all of your info from people who have never bought anything from me or ever seen our work. All of the reviews of my stuff is positive. We have delivered over 500 of these packs with no complaints or returns. 100% positive feedback on eBay since 1997. We work with both Sony and Universal as vendors. I was actually in the 2016 ATC movie and I have supplied props for Sony and Jason Reitman when needed. So do you think I would be able to do that if any of what these kids on GBFans say is true? Do a little actual research for yourself. Don’t believe everything you read on a private forum.
I won't say a prop makers name, but one certain maker is working alongside reitman now. So you know who's most accurate. Years back I heard on customer had to get a bandai neuron wand as it was better than another certain maker.
Stay away from Viking. Will is a con artist and was banned on various gb forums. He was sued by several buyers- including us He will promise whatever you want- but he will be late every time. Will was under investigation for fraud by PayPal and found guilty in 2017. He does not disclose any contact information either- a red flag. Further litigations continue. Stay away from him until his business license is revoked.
The proton pack made by Fincher was by far the best one that i have ever seen. Must check them out, the detail and sound effects were better than anything i have ever seen.
I do own a Vikingprops proton pack, and I didnt wait nearly as long as you. Probably about 2 months. I did reach out to him a few times and he always responded within 24 hours. I share some of the same nitpicks as you however everytime I wear it for halloween in my town, the people LOVE it. Yeah us GB fans will have issues with it but the average folks wont even notice. I recently ordered the basic proton pack kit from Benofkent. I live in NJ and it took a week for it to be sent out and delivered from the UK. Ben's work is impeccable. I've been slowly buying real parts for it to make it look as accurate as possible. Great video. Thanks for keeping a clear and open mind
Super old video but here is my opinion on VP packs. I own one and if you get it for a good price they aren't bad. However for 1500 bucks they are not the best. I bought mine off of a friend and paid 700 and while it's got a lot of quirks I am not unhappy with it. Most of my complaints as well as the complaints from others (including yourself) are cosmetic details. On my pack occasionally one of the cyclotron lights goes out and I have to turn it off and on again to get that bulb working again. Another issue is of course the sound and also the weird toggle switch to shoot the thing (which is weird as to why he did that). Other than that I don't think VP is a terrible pack. Is it the best money can buy? HELL NO. Is it terrible quality? No it's not. Is it overpriced? Yeah it is. I won't lie but charging 1500+ bucks for a Proton Pack that has so many cosmetic quirks and sound that's really low is not great. However you'll still pay twice as much for a Fincher or other packs. Also in response to that guy up there saying VP has been Blacklisted he hasn't. VideoBob has because VideoBob has been proven to be a recaster but Viking Props hasn't been blacklisted as far as I know, he just isn't very well liked lol. Also I mean (and I'm not defending VP at all especially since no way I would've paid 1500) our packs and these replica packs are way better than the ones in the film which were absolute garbage (I think only Ramis' pack survived and it sold at auction, the video is here on YT). I feel sometimes we get a little too bogged down on accuracy. This is personal preference but i dont like pristine packs. I like my pack to look beat up because in the movie they buolt them themselves from stuff theu found in the firehouse. In the game they tell the rookie that the pack could kill him lol. Again its personal preference but i like a beat up pack. VP if you can get it for a decent price is way better in my opinion than a Bob's who charges 3000 for one (and uses a Matty Wand which has 2011 electronics in it and from talking to other GBs only last about 2 years at most, talking about the Matty wand). I feel like VP is a decent starter pack and not a bad route to go again if you can get it for less than his asking price. If you buy it from him directly and pay the 1700 (he has it at 17 now) it's not a very good prop no.
I know it will sound strange. The Pack might look better that the Viking Props. But I prefer Viking Props Gun System. The fact that Bob used an Matty Gun, and not a gun he made himself is not a good thing. My personal reason is the clear tube extending system. I feel more confortable with a mechanic system (which could be easier to fit inside the Viking Props) than an electronic system on the Matty Gun. But that is just my point of view.
Etigo-yann HASAN I appreciate the input and I do agree, personal preference plays heavily here. While I hope it’s not the same for you, the neutrino wand I received from VikingProps was a fail in my view. Aside from the horrible paint job, the switches were bent and the wiring to control the sounds were not per the sounds the movie adapt wand made which played into my preference for the Matty Wand option that came with the BobsPropShop pack. Custom work does allow for some leniency however given the price you pay I would expect a better product from VikingProps.

Well i have to disagree. I'm a cop and me and my wife own firearms and shoot for training/fun. I have a Proton Pack coming in the mail as I type lol . it's a hobby to collect nostalgic props . I play with my guns , video games, Ghostbusters pack and my wife lol You only live once ...enjoy your life bro. Do whatever the fuck you wanna do

Hello Negan: At the time I posted this video, the option to purchase the pack with the neutrino wand was available. Given the rarity to find the wand nowadays I'm wouldn't be surprised if the builder is no longer offering such an option.
