They're Allied forces because the US and France were allies. There's nothing more to it than that. Countless coalitions have been called "the Allied forces", but WWI + II were just so important and recent that the phrase reminds us of them first.

HaHa!! Listen at all the whiny Redcoats on here crying because they lost the war. The British had hyped themselves up as being the greatest empire in the world and they failed to defeat a revolutionary government/army with less money, less manpower, less combat experience, a very small navy (compared to the British) and with less equipment. The American leadership was much smarter than the British, realizing their limitations and choosing to fight smaller scale battles they actually had a chance to win, racking up enough victories to secure the help of the French and Spanish. They also used unorthodox methods the British weren't as adept at, such as guerrilla tactics and the use of American rifles to secure some victories. The British had the advantage (especially early on) in almost every way and simply have no excuse for why their forces were unable to squash the revolution early on before the French were even able to enter the war. The British failed to adapt to American tactics and that ultimately cost them the war. That American diplomats were able to secure an alliance with France and Spain in such a non-conventional war, also shows the superiority of American diplomacy. Supporting a revolution usually means supporting the underdog in a fight and that entails great political risk if the revolution fails. The British on the other hand, had already established alliances with other countries before the Revolution began, yet their diplomats failed to capitalize on them. The British can make up all the excuses they want but the Americans beat them, period.

If the Vietnamese kicked our asses despite not winning any victories ever, then the Americans completely destroyed the British Army by your logic because they won a fairly large number of battles throughout the war, including two that were bigger than any victory the British were ever able to gain for themselves (one with French assistance). That's not me making an argument, that's your own logic talking.

The Patriot's main flaw was that it stuck to the good vs evil formula like most Hollywood movies do. They could have still made an interesting story based on real history and historical figures, but took the easy route instead. It's easy enough to not like the real Banastre Tarleton, so I don't see why there was a need to turn him into Joachim Peiper.

Yorktown was Admiral De grasse's victory.. history remembers Washington, Gates, Lafayette, Rochambeau, Lauzun, Steuben.. but whitout the naval ability of Admiral De Grasse, the battle would never occured or been won, with the Royal navy at sea support.
@RevengeOfTheKaizer
@RevengeOfTheKaizer 7 лет назад
That's true, but it doesn't make it De Grasse's victory alone. All of the elements for victory had to come together, otherwise the British would have either emerged victorious or slipped the noose.

At least. he, and his men were allowed to surrender; that is more than he could say for 500 of Washington's men at Brooklyn when Rall and his scum Hessians butchered surrendering 500 colonials with bayonett's and pikes as they lay down their arms! Most Hessian's that survived the war went back to Europe. A few to England to be King George boot licker's, as you so clearly spoke of. But a few saw the error of their ways, by the way the Americans treated them after they had been captured, and decided to stay here, and become Americans. Their ancestors are found all over this country, and have defended her in every war since.

Sore losers. It doesn't help that the second war with Britain ended in a stalemate in large part due to the young 20 year old US Navy having their way with the Royal Navy that was already centuries old. That was also a huge embarrassment for the "Mistress of the Seas." This is a pretty good list of the naval actions during the War of 1812 if you want to see what I'm talking about: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_naval_battles_of_the_War_of_1812

Spirit of Socialism Yes, it did burn. I remember in the '80s I believe when they were repainting it you could still see the burn marks. But by Divine Providence it rained the day of the burning from a hurricane. The rain was such a torrential downpour that the fires were squashed. Then again even if God had not brought the rain and the house was totally destroyed, it is but just a house. Can it not be rebuilt? In fact, longer it remain in the memories of Americans totally destroyed than partially burned. So too God was looking out for Britain and her future need of America.

Glenn Quagmire The Americans won the American Revolution against England also because of Spain! Not just France! Tired of hearing always fucking France, France! Hispanics contributed also! Spain played a MAJOR KEY ROLE in this war! America won because of SPAIN!!!
@benenuts5202
@benenuts5202 10 лет назад
You're both wrong and right. Of course Spain has helped but if everyone is more talking about France it's because France has helped more. If you want to advocate for those who have helped, don't be so selfish as those who speak only of France, there is also the Netherlands has helped, Russia has also assisted in providing food and may be other country. The difference is the largest and most decisive help was from France, even if you're right to recall that France is not the only country to have helped American colonists. But then, in the comparison between France and Spain, first, France was engaged in fight one year before Spain. Then there was financial assistance from France and Spain (and the Netherlands). 500,000 pesos from Spanish and 2,000,000 francs from French. Spain thanks to its colonies also won important battles, as well as the French, but the French have not just won battles, they won the war. In two battles, the French have totally put the British army routed. Battle of Chesapeake, the French defeated the British fleet, preventing any help for Cornwallis. Then the French arrived with between 10,000 and 13,000 soldiers (which was more than Independence Army, estimated around 8.000). When French arrived, they replaced Americans, French took control of the fighting and led Franco-American army. The decisive battle of Yorktown is considered a victory for Washington, but in reality, he has decided and leaded nothing in this battle, according to testimony of people present here, this victory was based on a French strategy implemented by Rochambeau and De Grasse, two French leaders, with a French army more important than Americans. During this decisive victory, in reality, it's not the French who helped Americans to win, it's the Americans who helped the French to win. It's for this reason that cornwallis negotiate his capitulation with Rochambeau and not Washington. But I recalled that you are right to emphasize the importance of Spain, who btw fought alongside the French in Europe during the war when the conflict is spreading in addition to their participation in America.
@michaelcristiancrow
@michaelcristiancrow 10 лет назад
Well, at least you're now talking about Spain!! The 500,000 pesos was not the only contribution by Hispanics. Not sure which 500 you're referring to but from what I understand, the female citizens of Havana, Cuba rallied & raised 500,000 silver dollars? I think. (Forgot where I read this but for whatever reasons, the Havana citizens WANTED their money paid back! ...so much for crying LIBERTY & FREEDOM) Anyway, they raised the funds & gave it to DE GRASSE to help pay the troops & to pay the Yorktown campaign. Thanks for your reply! Glad someone finally did!!!
@michaelcristiancrow
@michaelcristiancrow 10 лет назад
I'm no historian, so I'm ready to be corrected here, I think King Carlos of Spain gave 1,000,000 pounds to the American cause & Gov. Galvez gave 75,000 dollars from his own pocket & of course he also helped with numerous supplies to the American Colonists!

All who had been defeated by Britain in the Seven Year War (we call it the French and Indian War here in the US)--France, Spain, Netherlands.... were only too happy to give money to the American revolutionaries to give a bloody nose to the British and do the bloody work for them. Only France, however, sent it full land and sea forces to our help. Tens of thousands of French fought alongside us, as did some select Prussians, brave Polish folks, and representative of a dozen or more nations in Europe. We are totally grateful to all of them, Spain included. But we are particularly grateful to France. Her soldiers and sailors took back the message of liberty, and 8 years later in 1789, began their own Revolution..

Spirit of Socialism Again the Soviet Union would not have been defeated. We know by documents seized after the war that Japan had no intentions of invading the USSR. Germany was defeated when it started Operation Barbarossa. The USSR had better weapons, tanks, planes, and rockets. Japan had inferior weapons most had not changed since 1905. The Einstein - Szilard letter in August 1939 started the chain of events that led to the Atomic Bomb. Also the Japanese had no desire to invade the mainland U.S. Yamamoto knew he could only win for 6 months at most when they struck Pearl Harbor. What actually saved Britain is Hitler's arrogance himself by declaring war on the U.S. after Pearl Harbor. By this action he brought about his doom quicker and saved your tiny island nation. There is often brilliant individuals during wartime, however they are seldom in charge.

One subject not mentioned is the fact that the people of britain was revolting against a tyrant king , many in secret supported the colonies war for independence due to either relatives living over there or having lost relatives serving in the British army over there! With the country fighting on most continents the treasury was nearly bankrupt and an increase in taxes meant more people wanted an end to the conflict! A decision was made to sacrifice america for the greater good of the British empire as other colonies was far more lucrative and the British navy and forces was sent to protect them from other empires life France and Spain!
