The chili looks yummy! I eat plant-based, too, and have put wheat berries in my chili before, but have never tried it with tofu. I'll try that next time I make it. I'm enjoying all your vlogs, thank you. :)
This one sounds crazy. Asylums always make for interesting settings for stories. Be it conspiracy or paranormal. Seeing a guy no one else see at an asylum is beyond scary
Really digging the vlogs and your cinematography. Just waiting now on Book Nook the movie. Really Looking forward to hanging with you guys tonight too! 👍👎 Always loved sour candy too. Especially the sour punch straws. I was always curious about how a Warhead sodas and sour patch cereal would taste haha.
The first one sounds similar to the most recent season of True Detective. Takes place during the dark months of Alaska. But same idea, A bunch of Scientists go missing from a facility except they find a tongue. And theres a ton of paranormal parts too.
It’s crazy the side effects medicine can have. Yeah it’ll help you sleep better but you might also die. But That’s one of my biggest fears is being not in control of myself and not knowing where I went and what I did.
Awesome Syn! Episode Thirteen sounds like a great read. I need to read Brom next year. Hope you enjoy the final installment of The Dark Tower, you can do it! I wish you Long Days and Pleasant Nights! I am currently reading Of Foster Homes and Flies by Chad Lutzke,
Episode Thirteen is pretty awesome. I’m sure once I start the final Dark Tower book I’ll probably fly through it.☺️ Chad Lutzke is one of those authors I need to read. I’ve only read a couple of his short stories, I need to read some of his full length books.☺️📚
Anddd the killer wasn't even found. It was just suggested "maybe it was shirawaka" but again he says himself that he's not that careless to leave someone ded like that. It was just left like that till the end of the book. Heck, Bao isn't even sure himself if he actually found the identity of the frozen lady. And the other deaths with livers eaten. i am not satisfied..... :(
I thought the deaths, and the murderer would be more significant for the story, since I had to spend a Lot of time reading about those. But they r just forgotten just like tHAt.
It’s been several months since I read this so I’d have to go back and have a refresher. But if you weren’t satisfied that’s totally understandable. Plenty of books that I’ve read where I felt that way.
I never read this maybe I should but got a decent tbr pile I have depression and anxiety but couldn't imagine doing that damn on a side note you might like The library demon hunting society too
as someone whos gone through 'hibernation' spells or craving of it, this book was able to scratch that itch for me. like validating depression while also showing why u shouldnt indulge in it bc depression always lies
@@whalechief it was a very eye-opening and fascinating read. The amount of drugs she was on was scary. But I can see how wanting to escape into sleep and nothingness seemed like the promise of something better and at some points in life it really feels like it is. But then it’s also not getting to the real heart of the matter which is also hard and tumultuous. Really great read, I’m curious to explore more by this author.
hi syn, do you accept digital ARCs by chance? I have an upcoming horror novel I'd love the opportunity to send your way if so. it involves feminine rage, generational trauma & queer identity told from the perspective of a haunted house
Hi there, I am not currently taking any ARCs right now due to a bunch of crap I have going on. But I should start up again in the spring of this coming year.
Hi Syn, For me, "why would a well to do, young, attractive New York woman want to do this serious escape thing?" at some point in the book, this question would have to be answered. None of it matters if we don't know what triggered this odd desire. Now, there are so many great avenues the author could play with using the idea of the sleep-walking thing! Do you think the author utilized that in many of the creative ways it could be done?
@@rodgilley-writer she was depressed, both her parents were recently dead and she didn’t feel she had much of a purpose in life. Plus her on again off again boyfriend ended up getting married so that was part of it too. The sleepwalking thing was accurate considering the drugs she was on. I had a few friends that in the past were taking the same drugs with similar effects of sleepwalking and sleep eating, so it was a pretty accurate portrayal. Overall I thought it was a great book.
I liked it too, it was a fascinating subject matter. The overprescribing by that doctor was scary. I could see how people might not fully see that she was depressed and not like this or maybe the subject matter is too awkward for some. I want to read more by this author.☺️📚
Cackle was the first book in my Spooky Season reading list about a week ago, such a cozy read before getting into scary horror. Ralph the Spider stole my heart.
There are 6 John Silence stories by Blackwood, but the last one isn't in the original collection,. However, it is in the Dover S.T. Joshi edited version that you showed the cover of. There will be more John Silence, as soon as I pull my finger out, and get some work done. 😉
I’m looking to read this one. However, I simply can’t get into any books that are written in the first person, would you still recommend it if it is written in such a way? I need to make sure I’m getting my money’s worth.
I can only tell you that I loved this book and it was one of my top reads a few years ago. It's very powerful and moving in the subject matter of grief, it is also strange and Lovecraftian. However, if you really don't like books written in the first person I don't know if I'd recommend it. If you have a library near you, you could always see if they have it there if you want to try it, that way you wouldn't have to purchase it.
Just rewatched someone play the Until Dawn remake and I gotta say Wendigos might be my favorite. That or Mothman. Wendigos just are so scary to me especially how they’re created via cannibalism.
I'm currently reading this book and I absolutely agree! It's so warm and cozy! Hisashi Kashiwai is the second Japanese author I've read after Murakami & I'm really beginning to enjoy the writing. Also, they really should let Drowsy hang inside the restaurant.
I just finished Hell House by Richard Matheson which I really didn't like, so I went looking for a review for a book that I've read and did like and found this. I *loved* September House. This is what I wrote in my reading journal about it. Family secrets dripping out gradually like drops of paint, then see the entire canvas in the latter part of the book. The ending is absolutely wild, I was second guessing the situation and then all hell broke loose.
I’ve heard mixed things about Hell House. September House is a weird one, I liked it quite a bit. Love that you have a reading journal. I have a ratty little notebook that I make notes about what I read. I love the turn of phrase you wrote there - “family secrets dripping out gradually like drops of paint” ☺️📚
@@SynsBookNook I'm a middle aged woman living in an old house by myself and would love a ghost maid to make tea for me, even if she has axe murder wounds and sometimes erratically moves things around.
I've always been fascinated by the idea of weird and mysterious creatures lurking just outside of our ability to properly document them. This sounds like another great year of mysterious creature reading - hoping I can find some books to read and take part :)
I don't have a favorite Hitchcock film but I love his shooting style. I wanted to check out this book but I was reluctant at first. I loved your thoughts about it though so now I feel like I have to lol. Great review as always!
My favorite Hitchcock film is Rear Window. I love the idea of people watching and seeing something crazy out of the blue. It has inspired many more horror/thrillers. Really good suspense and great acting by James Stewart.
Great vlog! Pickles looked so good. I also love just soaking cucumbers in vinegar also delicious. Awesome to see you and Alpha out and about. You have Really nice artsy shots. I liked the ground shot of you two walking to the camera and that reflective circle thing.
@@SynsBookNook This is my favorite time of year I love fall. Sorry i was just joking about cozy XD Also I meant to say would still like to chat soon if you guys are up for it. I'm not sure your schedules but hopefully we can figure out a time soon. 😃
