can't find answer: first serve is a short serve, second serve good, however during play a hinder is called. we agreed to do-over, does the first short serve still count so that another fault serve would be side out??
I’ve watched a few beginner videos now, and 11 yrs later, this is still the most helpful video I’ve seen. It’s well thoroughly explained with visuals and text, well done.
Did a really good job actually, at first I was like quit staring at the camera, but then realized, it's your shit, you can do what you want lol and was that a drone? Pretty cool..
can the serve hit the front wall 1st but then hit side wall? My playing partner hits an almost unreturnable serve because it hits corner and kind of slides against wall. you almost have to hit wall with raquet to return, seems illegal
You're allowed to hit 1 side before the ball touches the ground as long as you hit the front wall first. If the ball is literally hitting the corner and contacting both front and side wall at the same time, that is not legal since it did not hit the front wall first. Also be aware that your opponent can not swing the racquet through the screen line near the side wall if that's what they're doing to get it close to the other. Otherwise, the shot you're describing sounds like a "down the line" shot, perfectly legal. Typically you will want to respond by waiting for the ball to bounce off the back wall to give yourself more time to follow it, but if the ball is touching the wall on the down the line I would expect it to pop off the wall due to spin. There is also a legal serve where the ball crosses the service box but hits the edge of the floor and side wall and rolls out there, which is the only unretreivable shot, but it's very rare to see. If your friend is rolling out serves consistently, then tell them to start earning some tournament cash. :p
+Ronald Roman Yes, it has to touch the front wall before the ground in order for play to continue. If it's your turn to hit the ball, then you have to hit the ball before it touches the floor twice. After you hit the ball it has to touch the front wall before touching the floor (walls and ceiling don't matter). If the ball touches the floor twice before you hit it, or if you hit it into the floor before the front wall, then you lose the point. If the other player contacts the ball during your turn then you replay the rally with no points awarded. If your opponent is standing in the way of a straight shot that takes a perpendicular path to the front wall, then technically that is supposed to be your point, although casual players will often replay these shots. If your opponent is intentionally hitting the ball before it reaches the front wall, then you would immediately gain a point and start a new rally.
This video should have been sent to the devs, they would have taken a little more information from you and then confronted the player (or just banned him). I'm not going to say posting it to RU-vid is wrong, but it's generally frowned upon. Granted, this guy was an immature jerk, but that's all the more reason to inform the devs so they can see to it that he doesn't do it again (or at least has a harder time of it.)
Cameron Boykin I don't want Awesomenauts to be a hostile environment either. Like I said, I don't think it's wrong. Specifically I don't think it's wrong if you just mean to warn people, however there's a fine line between *warning* and *shaming*. Shaming is something assholes and jerks do. I respect that you meant to warn others of course, but calling the guy a "giant douche" (regardless of whether it's true or not) isn't needed. I would have preferred it, personally, if you had just posted the video, warned the audience, and made the report. It would have made you seem more mature and respectable that way, and made your warning more credible.
Very good explanation of the game, is right to the point and interactive. The only thing is that the volume is too low on your video, otherwise greta job!
Can you hit the side walls to a front wall and keep the ball in play or does that become a dead ball? like during a rally i hit the ball on left wall then hit front wall then my opponent returns it and i miss it. whos point?
@chrisknieriem In short, yes, but only for drive serves. You are only allowed to do a drive serve between you and wall closest to you if you, the ball, and your racquet stay outside of the boxes defined by those outermost lines in the service box. They are ignored for z-serves and lob serves.
@nevermore9197 On a serve, that would be a "short fault" because the ball bounced at least once before passing the entire service box. During play, that's just a really good hit. :)
