Só tem um detalhe: ela não se importou com a dor de Nureyev. Tudo pelo cafajeste do marido.

i just finished reading Colum McCann's "Dancer" about Nureyev. Came here to learn more about Margot and wow- what a heartbreaking but hauntingly beautiful life.

I'm so glad that you posted this. Thank you. I remember watching this when it first aired on 60 Minutes. I never forgot the scene when Gelsey turned her feet. By the way, I just found a documentary on Hulu called "Ballet Now" that sounds interesting.

My fellow dancer friend was Gelsey's roommate at the School of American Ballet Scholarship house in NYC, so I saw her frequently. She always seemed aloof and totally focused on her pursuit so I wasn't surprised to see how successful she was in obtaining her dream, but saddened to know the toll it took on her, ultimately.

This is so sad , that she had to go to Covent Garden for The $ to pay the Bank they should have just paid it for her.

Too bad she met Tito, she would have been able to relax and enjoy her retirement without the burden of his hospital bills and All that. He used her i suspect makes one mad to See how things turned out for Margot Fonteyn. Very Sad 😢 such a great ballerina.

God given talent and hard work. ♥️I was born in 1953. My Mom enrolled me in Ballet School and Charm School. I danced for 5 years, but quit. I had grace and I could act. But it seemed so hard on my body. I kept telling my self as I improve, it won’t hurt. Well, it never did stop hurting. My legs ached and burned, my shoulders, agony at times. I quit. Mom put me in tap and I excelled. I follow ballet and enjoy it. I have no regrets, it wasn’t for me and my respect for these people is huge!! Huge….its not easy

So many sports where they test for drugs & imo dance absolutely is one. Gelsey blows the whistle & gets blacklisted by every American ballet company. Life is so unfair. Chronic pain leads lots of ppl to self medicate. I’m glad she found her way out. I really hope she gets to dance in an American ballet company again. And honestly it just makes me think that all of them are complicit in the same tactics since nobody is giving her a chance. Sad state of affairs for dance imo. God bless Gelsey for having the courage to speak her truth to power.

Why is there always a controlling man behind all of these crazy and sad stories??
@eveschwingel4260
@eveschwingel4260 4 месяца назад
Because ballet has mostly been controlled by men; and they called the shots. Especially in the 70’s & 80’s when she danced.

Rudolf must have loved her, because he paid for all her medical and hospital bills when she was sick and some said he was very sad and lost when she passed. He himself was very sick with aids when she died and didn't or couldn't attend her funeral. There is all kinds of love. Maybe she was the only woman he was capable of loving. He told his personal assistant in the last years of his life that he should have married her. I think they definitely expressed their love and passion on stage. With Tito's cheating on her, she still had that love on stage and who knows, possibly off stage. I really don't see that kind of passion when I watch the videos of Rudolf dancing with other ballerinas. He said that Margot and he were like one, body and soul when they performed. Wow, talk about loving your job! ❤

Oh wow. I’m in tears. I was expecting someone much more rigid a complicated when I start my research of this marvellous woman. Her simplicity and authenticity makes her so real. So approachable you think you could have a conversation and a great time with her and knowing she was so close to Nureyev put him also and that category of remarcable humanity. I’m so sad they’re gone now. Geniuses should never die.
