If one does continue west after this pass can one get either to the gravel and head to Swingburn or onto the tar road that goes to Bedford Dam and would get you down to the R103 near Bester?
Wagenmakersvallei was renowned for the exceptional quality of wagons that were exported also to America, Australia, Europe, etc. Many of these tough wagons survived centuries of abuse and are being restored. An interested book about the Wagenmakersvallei wagon building trade was recently published. I suppose the offices of the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria may have further information. Thanks for this rather unique video.
I was born in a small town called Seymour not far from Fort Beaufort on your way to Queenstown. The pass is in bad shape. You must be very careful. Enjoy your ride. Well done
Good day to you, very nice I really appreciate what you are doing. Going places that we thought that no longer exist. The way you present this is so satisfying. Keep up the good work. Drive carefully.
The pass looks to be in a far worse condition than it was in 1975 when I went up there in with my parents in their Valiant 200. We turned around somewhere near a square communications tower.
Thanks for the videos. About 2 years ago I ‘mistakenly’ did the pass in my wife’s Subaru Forester 2ltr turbo diesel. It was myself and my 3 sons. We ended up doing Katberg pass and Devils Bellows pass in one hit. Took us about 5 hours and a lot of ‘white knuckle’ moments. 😅😅😅 We got through and made it, but just barely.
If you read the caption, we mention that it is in Lesotho. Our website is MPSA (Mountain Passes South Africa) but we also cover all the passes in lesotho.
We drove that amazing pass about 2 .5 years ago!!! It was on our bucket list for a very long time and didn’t disappoint!!! Going through the proteas and stunning scenery and even passing a cyclist on route was next level!! We stayed overnight in Oupa Piet se huisie and got our dinner delivered to our house. This is an absolute must do trip, thanks to the family running this farm and tourism!
Looks like my kind of dirt track, not well used, out of the way. Pity about the AIP at the start of the drive, lets hope "someone" does something to eradicate.
The road also has several potholes too, fortunately I was able to avoid them due to keeping to the speed limit albeit the racing enthusiast on my tail...one most often finds trucks ahead going at 40km/h towards the summit. Faster than the truck going 15km/h that I was unfortunately stuck behind on the Huisriviers pass last Friday night driving back from Oudtshoorn..
Just another beautiful pass in our beautiful country showcased on your great channel. How did most of your videos start at the north or west termini and then end at the south or west termini?
Thank you. We've been honing our drone skills for 6 months. Its a lot more difficult than what most people think. Besides being wind sensitive, the drone can only follow at 37 kph maximum speed. By switching to Sport mode it can fly at 60 kph but then the obstacle avoidance sensors don't function. So we go for the conservative option and drive slowly, then double the speed afterwards in studio. It entails of lots of extra editing, but the end result is worth it.

One shouldn't worry about the "dangerous" passes. Just drive on the horizontal surfaces. I grew up nearby. Roads are safe; it's users that pose danger sometimes. 😊
Not much to write home about, but its an official pass. We prefer referring to roads like these as "Suburban Passes". There are many in Cape Town - like Constantia Nek, Rhodes Drive, Red Hill Road, Slangkop, Signal Hill Road and Kloof Road.
