Been a big BC fan since the 80s. Driving is an amazing final album for Stuart. When I heard this song I thought it was more about the targeting of the LBGTQ community. I picked that up from ‘where men are men’, ‘we could read his filthy mind’, and ‘blame religion’. Both minority groups would be equally applicable. Just wondering if anyone interpreted the lyrics this way too. Something that is not debatable is that I miss all of the great music Stuart Adamson did not get a chance to create
I saw them in the 80s when Stuart was still with us. I have always loved their music and over the last 10 years have reconnected with them as life has changed, and I try to see them every year. Stuart is sadly not with us. He lives on every time we hear the music and every time we see the band in concert. Happy times.

The day they had a party Right out in the street Flags and flowers and singing For the homecome hero’s treat I sat in the kitchen Without a fire on the range I knew this house had lost the cause To ever make me warm again Come back to me Days are all to long Come back to me You never should have gone I was so young and full of pride And you were wild and strong I never knew how weak I was I watched them gather round him When he stepped down from the car While tears fell on my cigarette He handed out cigars I have your child inside me But you will never know I never will forget you While I watch that child grow Come back to me Days are all to long Come back to me You never should have gone I was so young and full of pride And you were wild and strong I never knew how weak I was I was so young and full of pride (I never, I never, I never…) I will always be here Fading by the day I will wash the bloody hands And cast the bowl away As the years hang on me You will always be young And one day I will lie down Where the rose was flung Come back to me Days are all to long Come back to me You never should have gone I was so young and full of pride And you were wild and strong I never knew how weak I was
Beautiful masterpiece of lyrics and music written by Bruce Watson, Tony Butler and one of the most gifted missed frontmen and guitarists in rock, Stuart Adamson. Rest in peace man… 😞🖤👍🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
This is when Big Country was awesome! The Crossing and Steeltown were their best albums. The Seer was OK but a little too poppy for my tastes. The rest of the albums they made in the late 1980s and early 90s were certainly not their best efforts!
I hate the fake American accent he started singing with after The Seer. He often can't annunciate and phrase his lyrics properly. Like 'Shattered Cross' - "You don't mess around with a MAIRN in BLAIRK..." 😞
It's 3 A.M. I'm going home I watch the white lines pass alone There is no moon so I just drive I feel like the last man alive I find a voice on the radio It sounds like someone I used to know He sends out songs that are sad and slow For us with nowhere else to go That's when I get to crying And crying never makes no sense When too much has gone on for it to ever be coincidence Who's gonna take you to the moon, who's gonna take you to the stars Who's gonna wait around for you, who's gonna bring you back from Mars I'm gonna take you to the moon , I'm gonna show you 'round the stars But if I take you to the moon will you come back the way you are If absence makes the heart grow fond Why does my presence seem so wrong If I am here and you are gone I wonder what it is I've done That's when I get to crying And crying never makes no sense When too much has gone on for it to ever be coincidence Who's gonna take you to the moon, who's gonna take you to the stars Who's gonna wait around for you, who's gonna bring you back from Mars I'm gonna take you to the moon , I'm gonna show you 'round the stars But if I take you to the moon will you come back the way you are We keep our secrets to ourselves We leave those lies for someone else We rise above what we used to be Don't get discouraged easily That's when there's no more crying Cause crying never makes no sense When too much has gone on for it to ever be coincidence Who's gonna take you to the moon, who's gonna take you to the stars Who's gonna wait around for you, who's gonna bring you back from Mars I'm gonna take you to the moon , I'm gonna show you 'round the stars But if I take you to the moon will you come back the way you are I'm gonna take you to the moon I'm gonna show you 'round the stars But if I take you to the moon Will you come back the way you are
Stuart Adamson was fab and died way too young, every band he played in he added pure magic to. My favourite Scottish musician ever, well the Youngs from ac/dc too obviously.
The emotions in this song, should've been released as a single. Maybe one day Stuart will get the recognition he so sadly didn't,but deserved. Thanks for all the memories and songs. Gone but never, ever forgotten!
